48.0. "Tiffany Sets (In General)" by MAY18::SCHNARE () Thu Jul 14 1988 14:24

		My daughter is an avid baseball card collector and
		recently came across a reference to "tiffany sets"
		in one of her magazines. Can someone help me with
		a definition/explanation of "tiffany sets"?

		Thanks.

   re: -.1

         Tiffany sets are regular sets of baseball cards that have a very
   smooth and shiny layer on the front of the card and that give the card
   a darker appearance than a normal card would have. They're very nice,
   but $$$$$$.

    These are issued by card companies as glossy cards of their regular
    and update issued cards for that year. Topps puts them in a cardboard
    box, at least last time I looked, and Fleer puts them in a tin.

    The Topps Tiffany set production run is about 15,000 sets a year.

    For 1989 the production run is going down to only 5000 sets.

    Talk about good investments!!
