| The 1954 O'Brien twins card. I had it when I was a kid, lost it,
then won a new one through an auction last year. That bright orange
background and TWO players for the price of one!

The '88 Baseball Legends card of Mark Fidyrch is my favorite. He's
standing straight up on the mound before his windup. The infield grass
around the pitcher's mound is a beautiful emerald green. Reminds me of
a perfect summer day, when the livin' is easy. I don't think I've ever
seen a full-length head-to-toe baseball card player picture like this
before. He thrilled us for a few seasons and went back home to work on
a farm. - Jim

| On a sadder note, this morning's Worcester Telegram & Gazette reported,
on it's obituary page, the passing of Mark Fidyrch's mother. I believe
she was in her early 60's, and may have suffered from lung cancer.
No mention was made of Mark's professional baseball career; just the
usual "she leaves a son, Mark, of Northboro, 2 daughters..."

| I read a story about "THE BIRD" a couple of months ago that stated
he was playing ball again. Softball that is, pitching for a team
in the Marlboro area. I guess you never get it out of your system,
like baseball cards.

44.10 | Some more nice ones | LEAF::COOPERMAN | | Fri Aug 11 1989 12:05 | 16 |
| Some of my favorites are:
1956 Clemente - great photo of a handsome man and one of the most
colorful backgrounds I've seen.
1961 Snider - just a beautiful card of a great, aging hitter with
silver hair.
1961 Clemente - another excellent photo. Some I've seen are too green
but this is a nice card.
1954 Mays - great face, terrific set.
1971 Yaz - good photo of an intense pose.
Mike (anyone have a nice 71 Yaz to trade?)

44.12 | My Favorite BB Card. | AKOV12::GASPARONI | | Mon Feb 05 1990 13:31 | 8 |
| My favorite card is 1953T Mickey Mantle. I like it because of the art
work, and because of the close up picture. It also appears larger than
most baseball cards. I also like it because the original art work
went for $121K at a recent New York Auction this past summer. So when
I walk into a Marriot Sports lounge and see it sitting there, I'll be
able to say I own one of the original BB cards produced from that
print.

| This one's easy. My favorite card hands down has to be from the
'62 Topps set titled "The Slugging Stars" (?), card # 18. This card
is a nice shot of Mantle and Mays taken during the last All-Star
game at Fenway in 1961 (one of two All-Star games that year) in
front of the green monster. The woodgrain borders from the set
add to the appearance of this card.

My favorite card is the 1955 Topps Harry Agganis, for a number of
reasons. From a purely collector standpoint, I like the card because
it was his rookie card, it was his only card, and he was a local
high school (Lynn Classical) and college (BU) star who went on
to play for the Red Sox.
But the main reason the card is my favorite is that, as a boy growing
up in Lynn, Harry Agganis was my hero. He was everything that a young
boy aspired to. Not only was he an outstanding athlete, but he was
extremely popular and never let his successes go to his head.
I was fortunate enough to meet Harry several times (he was my best
friend's uncle). Though I was only 8-years old, I still remember him
arriving at my friend's house in his new baby-blue Lincoln Continental,
getting out and giving all the kids who gathered around him his pocket
change, and taking a few minutes to toss the ball around.
I'll also never forget the day we heard about Harry's unexpected death,
and how me and my father cried when we heard the news.
Harry was quite a guy.

| Seeing as though most of my collection is basketball cards, my favorite
card is a basketball card: 73-74 Julius Erving (Erving's second year
card).
That was the first year that I really collected, I bought as many packs
as I could every week, and traded with friends til I eventually got the
set.
The card has a nice blue frame since the doc was an ABA all-star that
year. The picture is of him spinning a ball in his warmup sweats as a
member of the Virginia Squires.
Erving was in his prime, more exciting than anything in the NBA at that
point, simply the best.

pretty funny looking. He has a HUGE afro.

Probably for more than a couple of months, seems like the W.S.
spotlight has a big effect on cards. Look at Avery and Knobluach, for
that matter have you checked out the price on the '88 fleer Gant rc
$6.50 I believe

| I have a lot of "favorite" cards, like a Gretz rookie, Joe rookie, and
Willie Mays rookie (though not "mint'), but one of my favorite cards is
the 91 UD football Bob Golic. Looking at that card tells you this is
one mean (or tough) mother......
