19.0. "Baseball Legends" by USSCSL::ROSCETTI (it was an accident) Mon Jul 27 1987 23:40

     Hi..

today my kids came home with four packs of "BAseball Legends"
cards. The cards are dist by Pacific trading cards, and
copyrighted by cramer sports promotions. The cards are
marked copyright '81 or 82 depending the series and the wax
    pack c.1985.

Players themselves are all hall of famers done in B/W
(actually that old fashioned "brown" tone).

Is anyone familiar with these cards? Any potential
value - other than the fun I'm having explaining who
    Stengal,Durocher,dimaggio,etc. are to a couple of 9
    year olds. :^)

Brien - who until two months ago that cards were only good
            for flippin an throwin'

Several years (around 1981) I ordered the first two series from
Pacific Trading Cards. I really like the looks of them and I have
also had a good time explaining Honus Wagner, Pie Trayner, and others
    to my kids.

There were four series put out with 30 cards in each series.
The individual series were published in 1980, '81, '82, and '83.
What I have also just found out is that in 1986 the four series
    were distributed nationwide.

The PTC catalog I have (October 1986) has the individual series
for $2.95 each with all four for $10.95. They also list Wax Boxes
(36 packs, 8 cards per pack) for $12.00.

    	Series highlights:
I - Ruth, DiMaggio, Mantle, Gehrig, Aaron, Koufax
II - W. Johnson, Banks, Feller, Cobb
(also Chuck Connors who played two years in the majors)
III - Williams, Berra, Campanella, Kiner
IV - Maris, J. Jackson, Young, Lemon

The 1990 set is out now...the cards are of better quality than the
previous 2 years, and don't look the same as those years. Same
funkiness though :^) However, this year they have some cards for
players *who are still playing*...got a Willie Wilson in my 1st wax
    pack. - Jim

I have 2 packs of black and white glossy pictures Cincinatti Reds
that I picked up at Crosley field a long time ago. Both sets consist
of 12 pictures , no stats just name and "Cincinatti Redlegs" at the
bottom . One of the packs has the following :

    CincinattiSportservice Inc
    Crosley Field
    Findlay & Dalton Streets
    Cincinatti, Ohio

The price on the outside of one envelope is $.25 .
    The players included are:

    Frank Robinson Ed Bailey
    Gus Bell Wally Post
    Wally Post Fred Hutchinson (MGR)
    Hersh Freeman Gordon Coleman
    Joe Nuxhall Eddie Kasko
    Ed Bailey Gene Freese
    Smokey Burgess Gus Bell
    Roy McMillan Jim O'Toole
    Birdie Tebbetts(MGR)	Bob Purkey
    Brooks Lawrence Vada Pinson
    Ted Kluszewski Jay Hook
    Johnny Temple Frank Robinson

Can anyone help me determine the years for these sets , also curious as
to any value they might have. Thanks for any replies.

<<<	Roy, I didn't know where to put this. If you can find a better
place for it, please move it there. >>>

This is not related to trading cards, but it is related to
Sports we all love, so I thought I put it here. Tonight,
Friday Oct. 18, 1991 at 8 PM on local channel 7 (CBS), there
will a special show called LEGENDS, where they will show clips
and stories about Sports Legends of the following

Red Sox: Ted Williams, Carl Yastrzemski, Roger Clemens

Bruins: Bobby Orr, Johnny Bucyck, Ray Bourque, Cam Neely

Celtics: Bob Cousy, KC Jones, John Havlicek, Red Auerbach

Patriots: John Hannah, Jim Nance, Doug Flutie

Boston Marathon: Joan Benoit, Samuelson, Bill Rodgers.

	Boxing: Marvin Hagler

These are the only ones listed, but it also says: and many more, so
I assume they will also have Larry Byrd, Rocky Marciano, etc...

19.8Babe Ruth?GLADYS::HUISHLife is a Cabernet ...Mon Jun 20 1994 22:4216
My eldest son has a 'Babe Ruth Binge' going currently where he is
soaking up as much as he can find on him (which isn't much in
	Australia).

I was wondering if there were any currently available cards of Babe
Ruth? Does the current Conlon Collection set of the Ted Williams
	sets have them?

	thanks,

	pete

I don't think Conlon Collection makes the Ted Williams set. The Conlon
Collection is made by Megacards I believe. A couple of years ago Mega-
cards released a set of Babe Ruth cards (about 160 cards I think).
These were in the same format, style as their other Conlon sets. The
Babe Ruth set comes in a nice tin.

I haven't picked up a Ted Williams set this year, but there may be
some Babe Ruth cards in there or in the inserts. Mike Kelly would
probably know being a national distributor.
