967.0. "SNMP manager for PC ?" by UTOPIE::BRAUN_R () Fri Apr 11 1997 14:23

    Hi all,

I'm new to Gigaswitch, so please apologize...

As far as I know, I need a SNMP manager, such like Netview or any other
of these huge software packages on a UNIX (or NT-system) to change any
values on a Gigaswitch, that cannot be set via Clearvisn or the
    console.

Is there any simple configuration tool (also with some restrictions,
    e.g. comfort) from a PC, e.g. with WIN95 on a notebook ?

CMU-utilities like snmpset, based on Winsocks ? Public Domain ?
    Shareware ?

This would be nice to do the configuration near the physical
Gigaswitch, as this sometimes better in multisite-configurations.

We would like to configure the advanced features of 3.1 (e.g.
    multiple spanning tree)

Any help will be highly appreciated.

    Thanks,
    Ralph

I ran into the same problem recently. I got ahold of ManageWorks, it does the
trick for me. See http://doofus.ako.dec.com for kit. You will have to load the
GS/FDDI V3.1 mibs. It contains the GS/FDDI mib V1.3, which is a bit old.

        Hi,

        I've installed MW2.2 on NT 4.0, 32MB, 200Meg diskspace free.

I'm unable to install any MIB, the files are not read-only and
the error message is always an (immediate) "internal application
        error".

Any help will be highly appreciated.

        Thanks,
        Ralph

Ralph,

I was able to the the GIGAswitch V3.1 Mib to compile without any problems,
but I was using Win95, not NT.

Hi,

I uses ManageWORKS but also installed the ServerWORKS parts for managing the
Prioris line Boxes. But If I want to update the MIBs for the GIGAswitch the
complete MIB database will become a mess. If I select a new MIB group for the
GIGAswitch also all kind of serverwork related entries will be found. o I have
two setups now. One for manageing the GIGAswitches and one for managing the
Priorisses?
Do they use the same MIB strings?!?!

Suggestions?
