| What the orange (or red) color means is that the cartridge is not
making good contact on all its pins. I usually have to clean the game deck
and game when this happens. SOrry it took so long to respond, I have been
away from the notesfile for a while.

They sell cleaning kits that go from $5 - $10.
I picked one up for 10 that cleans NES SNES gameboy and sega.

| My nintendo blinks on and off. I've pulled the plastic cover, and the
metal cover inside, exposing the connection pins. I've cleaned them and
levered them up so that they should make good contact with the games.
In the past, this has always fixed this problem.
When I did it last week, the nintendo worked for about five minutes,
then reverted to the blinking behavior. (screen image looks good for a
few seconds, then fuzz, then looks good, ...). I did it again
yesterday and the same thing happened. It worked fine for 5 minutes
then reverted to the bad behavior.
I used one of the cleaning kits sold by toys r us to clean the thing.
In the past I used some aerosol spray from Radio Shack but Radio Shack
doesn't carry the spray anymore (they have some more expensive spray).
Any suggestions or is it time to buy a replacement?

| Check the contact that should be closed when the game is pushed down
(not in). Blinking is the designed behavior (I have no idea why) when
the game is pushed in but not down and power is turned on. (It would
have been a much better design to make that contact the power switch:
Click a game to take it out, and the power turns off. Push a game
down, and the power goes on.)

| I checked but couldn't see which contact you are talking about. Did I
overlook something obvious?

| Re .5:
I don't know what the switch looks like inside, but the blinking you
describe is too much like the behavior when a cartridge is not
depressed to be coincidence. There must be some switch that is
activated when the cartridge cradle goes down.
