763.3 | a little help required | DPE::GUILDOO | | Mon Nov 30 1992 10:11 | 15 |
| I've had DW IV for about 3-4 weeks. My son finished it in this time,
I've gotten real close to the end. I had the game ordered thru a
local video rental store in Salisbury. Cost + ship + tax = $54.65
I'll give a review if someone can tell me how to get a text file
into this note.
I think this IV is better than III, III is better than II etc.
There is some variation in the characters over III.
There are 5 chapters #5 being the last and hardest, no instructions
for chapter 5 in the book.

Dragon Warrior IV
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
note We've had this game about 4 weeks, about 175-200 hours to finish
this game. There are things that we've still not found.
good stuff Graphics are about the same even a little better. There are lots
of nice new monsters, some are quite impressive.
Story line is much better. Five, count em, five chapters. They
also blend pretty well.
Music is ever changing. (still drives the Wife up a wall)
World travel is by legs, by wagon, by boat and by balloon. There
are about 60 towns, castles or caves for your exploring enjoyment.
Battle is the same as previous Dragon Warriors. Except for
the last chapter. (I'll let you draw your own conclusions)
new stuff There is a casino in one of the castle areas. Roulette, Draw
Poker with double up and Fight Betting are the games. There
is a shop inside the casino withe unique items.
bad stuff Remember to hold the reset button in while you turn the game
off. This game is to long to lose it in the middle. I even
copy my data into 2 places just in case. Yes it has happened
to my son. He threw a fit and quit for awhile. Of course it
was the game, or a 15 year old that didn't follow instructions.
There are hundreds of items to find and problems to be solved. I'll not
give any details until asked. Don't want to spoil what I think is the
best Dragon Warriors game to date. ( DW 5 is supposed to come out on
Super NES, can't wait)
--------- THE STORY - in my own words ------------------------------------------
c1. You are Ragner, Captain of the Royal Army. Monsters are abducting
the children of Burland. You, as the hero, must stop this atrocity
and return the children to their homes. When you've solved this and
a couple other problems you'll go on a quest, searching for the
legendary hero, still a child, who'll save the world from the
ultimate evil.
c2. You are the Princess Alena, your father is King of Santeem. You are with
Cristo and Bray, your protectors. The King, your father, will get cursed
and lose his voice, just one of several problems for Alena and party to
solve. You'll finish this chapter by battling 4 fighters to release
another King from a promise to wed his daughter to the winner of the
tourney. Alena being female, the promise is null and void. Alena and
party will then also search for the legendary hero.
c3. You are now Taloon, an arms merchant. You an your family must buy and
open your own weapons store. Talon must avert a war between two
rival Kingdoms and get a Prince and Princess together. Then earn enough
money to pay an Old Man $60,000 to finish his tunnel to the next town.
This is the goal of Taloon and then he is off to search for a legendary
sword.
c4. You are sisters, Nara a fortune-teller and Mara a dancer. Their father
has been brutally murdered, and the sisters are seeking revenge. The
finish to this chapter is obtaining an item that will allow let you go
to another town and search for the legendary hero.
c5. You are the legendary HERO. (you'll name him or her at the beginning)
The object is to go out into the hostile world kill monsters and find
some allies to help you destroy the arch evil entity Necasaro, just
before he destroys every living thing on the planet. (not an easy job)
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
There are 8 regular characters and 8 UC's (uncontrollled characters)
Ragner Healie
Alena Orin
Cristo Laurent
Bray Strom
Taloon Hector
Nara Panon
Mara Lucia

763.5 | Good Game | CUPMK::SCOPA | | Wed Jan 06 1993 17:07 | 20 |
| Speaking as a DW fan from way back I say thumbs up on this latest
release.
The first four chapters were very easy and only chapter five seems to
hold any type of challenge.
With chapter five comes the option of changing tactics. Without giving
too much away I'll just say that you can change battle tactics to your
liking (offensive, defensive, holding onto MP, etc.)
There are some features which make this version more enjoyable like the
casino and the fact that you can have ten characters walk around with
you provided you have a wagon.
There are very few hints and there is no hint book for chapter five
unless you'd like to spend $$$$$$ to get one.
I'd rate this game high for those players who love RPG games.

763.6 | Help needed in Chapter 5 | SOLVIT::DRECK::JAFFE | | Tue Jan 19 1993 13:10 | 8 |
| I have breezed through most of DW IV with little or no problem but I have been
stuck at the same spot for several dyas now and need a hint. I am in search of
the SEED in the ICE CAVE south of the farming town of SORENTA (sp may be wrong).
I see passages to lower levels but can's seem to reach them regardless of which
ICE SLIDE I take. Can someone give me the clue or hint necessary to find the
SEED of which I search?

| The padequia seed:
is in the lower level. You can get there by:
taking the slide that goes around the top of the cave, and then
walking to the right without getting on any more slides. You'll see
some stairs. Once you get there:
the chest in the middle is your goal. Take various slides until you
get to the left of the chest. Move up or down (without hitting any
slides) until you line up with the chest. Move straight towards the
chest - you;ll slide up, down and around a little, but you'll land on
the chest.
Oh by the way. There are other goodies in here! Don't miss 'em!

763.8 | STILL MORE HELP NEEDED | SOLVIT::DRECK::JAFFE | | Mon Jan 25 1993 12:31 | 19 |
| I appreciate the reply -.1 even though as happens so often I solved my own probem befor
reading the reply. I am now stuck again and need a helping hand.
I have made the king laugh or at least understood his proclamation and have
won the Zinthian Helm. I am now in search of the shield. Clues directed me to
the place surrounded by lava which needs the Magma Staff to melt. The staff
was hinted at being in Santeem Castle. The castle is occupied by monsters now
and there is a flame guarding the treasure. I can not get past the flame nor
do I have a clue as to how to do that. Balzac is sitting on the kings throne
and I have engaged him several times using different parties and strategies
with no success. He takes a lot of hits and eventually kills my entier party
off.
Can someone give me a clue as to how to proceed? My characters are all up to
level 21 or so. Am I too weak yet to face Balzack?
Thanks for the continued support.

763.10 | THANKS | SOLVIT::DRECK::JAFFE | | Wed Jan 27 1993 11:16 | 18 |
| As is so often the case, I solved my own problem. A few tweeks in the members of the fighting party and the tactics employed and
Balzac was dust. I am now up to level 31 or so on most players and seem to be
wandering again. There is no clear clue as to hwt todo next. I have gotten all
the goodies from the cascade cave, and the cave behind the jail doors as well
as the one you had to use the boat for. I went down to the southern island and
found the old man who didn't say much of meaning. A clue as to whats next in
the sequence of events would be helpful. I have all the Zinthian stuff except
for the sword, helm, sheild, and armor. I even have some metal babble armor and
sword which do some heavy work. I hav efound the flute of uncovering and know
what and where to do the flouting, and the rock that pushes back cascading water
and what to do with that, and another stone or something that let you roll back
a mistake, but have not used that yet. I have been collecting smaall medals but
don;t see how its possible to gather 20 for the big win. I have already cashed in
6 or so.
Thanks once again.

763.11 | Jailer's Key and Gas Cannister | CUPMK::SCOPA | | Thu Jan 28 1993 11:34 | 14 |
| There are two things which have eluded me so far.
The first is the key (jailer's key?) to open up the jail cell doors and
the second is the gas cannister needed to get the air vessels into the
sky.
All I'm looking for is a town/castle spoiler with a small hint. I'll
take it from there.
I'm in Chapter 5 and my guys are all in the mid 20's for levels.
I'm taking this game real slow 'cause I enjoy ENIX RPG games.

763.12 | HINTS ON KEY AND CANISTER | SOLVIT::DRECK::JAFFE | | Thu Jan 28 1993 13:13 | 37 |
| To -.1
We have definitly taken things in different order. I have ound that msot of the
time, the clues in a given town will lead you to the next step. Given that kind
of logic, I am surprized that:
- you have not found the jailers key, or final key as it is known
- you even know about the canister for the floating device
- you are only up to level 20 or so
I have a suggestion, especially since you (much like myself) enjoy the ENIX
RPGs so much. Go back to the first town that begins chapter 5 and start talking
to everyone, day and night, and marking down the clues. you will be able to move
quickly but I am sure you will discover things missed.
Hints behind form feed
I am quite sure that it is the queen of gardenia that will give you the final key
after you prove your innocence by capturing the real theif of the bronze amulet.
In order to get to gardenia, you must defeat Balzack. In order to defeat Balzack,
your levels should be slightly higher than 20. See my reply a few replies back.
Good luck.

| I think I already defeated Balczak.
I know that the cannister is somewhere in the Atemko Mine too.
Here's another one Joel. There is a stairway that leads to the
courtyard where the wedding is taking place. There is a door
leading to that stairway but I can't find the "secret way" to that
door....is it behind the throne?
This is definitely a form-feed spoiler.
And yes, my levels are all over 20.

| I have found many places that seem to be reachable but frustration set in befoe
I located the right path. Your assumptions on the location of the cannister is
correct.
Question of my own. I have explored the world tree and located Lucia who has
joined my party. She has asked me to take her to Zinthian Castle and now that
I have all four Zinthian armaments, am willing to take her there. My problem is
that I can't find it. I know clues say its up in the sky. A hint would be
appreciated.

Reaching Zenithia is one of the last things you'll do. Don't despair.
If you don't have the canister, don't try.
Actually, if you don't have what the canister is needed for, don't try.
After you have the balloon, you'll need to check out all the islands in
the sea. It's pretty obvious after that what you need to do.

763.16 | Questions | CUPMK::SCOPA | | Mon Feb 08 1993 10:34 | 21 |
| SOme general questions:
o The flute of Uncovering has been useful once so far. Is it useful
in more than one place?
o Is there any connection between the cannister and my previous
question?
o I'm assuming the balloon is in a village (forgot the name) that
has shops and a graveyard separated by a small island. Am I close?
All my levels are at or above 30 and I've gotten some Zenethian stuff
and I just got the Staff of Transform from the Royal Crypt. I also have
tons of other stuff including the Staff of Healing (very valuable in my
estimation).
I expect that I am closing in on the homestretch and acquiring the
balloon and the cannister is an important step in that direction.

bring it to that town, very far south, up the creek or down it, near Collosus and
the Dire place. The merchant of whom you speak will give you your traveling
baloon.
BTW: we ended the game Sunday. Found it to be easily the best DW yet. The graphics
were great, the playability and structure well defined, but best of all was the
set up of the 5 chapters. 1-4 prepare you with the necessary skills and background
to handle the lack of direction in cahpter 5. There were some tense moments
in 5 but with very little help from this notes file, we managed to complete.
On tho the next RPG Any suggestions?

763.18 | Getting there | CUPMK::SCOPA | | Tue Feb 09 1993 14:09 | 25 |
| Thanks Joel I'll give it a try.
I've been stashing gold and small medals at the vault and I had close
to 40K there. I made a withdrawal and purchased some high level armor
and weaponry for my crew.
I took Colossus for a walk and have been in Dire Palace. I'll go back
there to look for the balloon...the search for the cannister is driving
me crazy.

Re: Next RPG.
Well if you stick with NES you may want to try one of the Ultima
games (Quest of the Avatar?) I think they are available in 8-bit.
Another one you might try is The Bard's Tale.
I haven't played these yet but they are on my list as potential
RPG's.
Let me know what you decide on.

763.19 | That Elusive Cannister | CUPMK::SCOPA | | Wed Feb 10 1993 09:43 | 16 |
| Joel,
Without giving me a bigtime spoiler would you say that the cannister
is located in the Atemko Mine and that I would need to search
everywhere?
Does the game offer a clue to where exactly the cannister may be? I say
this because I often find something and then run into the clue
afterwards.
This happened to me with the Flute of Uncovering.....saw the dream
sequence afterwards.
thanks.

| Without giving me a bigtime spoiler would you say that the cannister

everywhere?
This is the basic modis operandae of the game. Clues, when followed, give you what
you expect. There was a clue that the Cannister was in Akemko mine and I am sure
if you map the mine out, you will find it in there. The other game generality is
that if you have difficulty in exploring a place, go back to the last cave or
castle and do some monster bashing to bring the levels up. If done in sequesnce,
no task was diffiulct from the standpoint of bding unmatched against the
competition.
Does the game offer a clue to where exactly the cannister may be? I say
this because I often find something and then run into the clue

Maybe you have not found the town by the river just north of Collosus. I am quite
sure that it was the merchant who will eventually give you the balloon that
tells you where to find the cannister. You enter the river from the north and sail
down the river south. At the point that you enter the village, the screen will
change. The town is not evendent from the surroundings.

763.22 | ARRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRGGHHH!!!!!!! | CUPMK::SCOPA | | Mon Feb 15 1993 13:52 | 23 |
| It's been a frustrating weekend. I went to Riverton and thought the
"buried" clue indicated I'd find the cannister in the graveyard. I
searched in the town and in the mine...ALL OVER THE PLACE especially
near the tombstones.
I also went to Riverton (both at night and during the day) and not once
did the merchant offer me the balloon...saying it wasn't ready
yet...maybe because I didn't have the cannister.
I'm sure my levels are high enough 'cause each character is up to 32 or
better.
I even tried the gunpowder jar 'cause it moves rocks but I exploded the
jar near ALL THE ROCKS in the mine and nothing.
Do you realize how long it takes to search that entire mine?
I've got Soul Blazer, Mystical Ninja, and Mystic Quest waiting for me
on SNES but I want to get through DWIV first.
So I'll take a better clue or spoiler now regarding the cannister.

Interestingly enough I had a much easier time with my levels in the

It took a few tries to get the balloon to fly.
