754.1 | I'd stick with the SNES | HOTWTR::WALKER_RO | | Tue Jul 14 1992 20:01 | 12 |

The top games seem to be drying up for the old NES. The SNES
is worth the extra money (the price of one game). As to the
SEGA Genesis, I trust Nintendo to keep making money which
means a continued supply of top games. So far may people with
both seem to think that the SNES is getting beter games.
The klinker in all this is the new CD drives coming out in the
next year. I don't know if Nintendo will be quick enough to
keep the playing field even. Sega seems to have a time lead now
but Nintendo is claiming a better unit at a lower price. We'll
find out for sure when they hit the stores.

| Neither is enough; buy them both. If I had to get rid of my game
systems, they would go in this order: Sega Master System, Turbo Grafx
16, Genesis, Gameboy, NES, Super NES.

754.3 | Buy a PC instead, cheaper in the long run... | ASDG::SBILL | | Wed Jul 15 1992 13:28 | 15 |

Who is it for? Is it for you? If it's for you, do what I plan to do.
Wait for the SNES to become obsolete. Then buy the next generation. I
have a feeling that the lifetime of the SNES will probably be even
shorter than the NES. And the next generation will probably NOT be
compatible with anything previously made. I hope what will happen is
that the game manufacturers will get together and standardize the
software so that you can play the same games on many different systems.
And when subsequent generations come out, they'll still be able to play
the old games. (I know, I'm really DREAMING! :-)) The more I think about
it, the more I think that buying a PC just for playing games is more cost
effective than buying a Nintendo, Sega etc.

754.5 | How about SEGA Genesis instead of SNES... | ASD::RAMAN | | Thu Jul 16 1992 15:45 | 14 |
| Thanks for all the reply....Well I was deciding on SNES BUT :....
I checked with some stores and they claim that buying SEGA Genesis may be
better than SNES. They claim that as far as performance of SEG
A is concerned
(graphics, sound etc...) it is as good as SNES , may be better (they say
SEGA is faster) and the games are cheaper too (average price of SEGA and
NES games they claim to be about $40.00 while that of SNES is $60.00). Also
the availability of SEGA games are at par with NES (old Nintendo).
I am totally confused now...Help me !! BTW, I am buying this for my daughter
but I guess as you all know that I will end up playing it more than her...
Thanks again folks,

754.6 | buy SNES | LEMAN::DEZOTEUX | | Fri Jul 17 1992 06:01 | 21 |
| Sorry for my bad English...
I'm french and i have a SNES, my brother buy a SEGA Genesis, and i
compare the two machines, i think than SNES is better, the graphics and
sound (stereo) are very very nice for this machine, the problem is SNES
is a too young machine and the programmers not used all capacity of
SNES to make games. But wait and see !!!
And now you can found a very good games : Street Fighter II, Smash TV,
and soon a great shoot-them-up Super Aleste ....
i think buy SNES, and when the Super CD come , Sega Genesis is dead !!
Goog games and good luck (Bonne chance).

Wait for the SNES CD? That will be around a $300.00 addition to the
system. Right now the SEGA is a better machine, but it doesn't play
Mario Bros, or Legend of Zelda. SEGA seems to run a little better with
more on the screen.
I own both, and enjoyed both.
SEGA - GENISYS;
It's just starting to come up with games for the whole family, like
Wonder Boy. It needs more games like that. I love the sports games,
and I enjoy using the controllers better than SNES.
SNES -
Mario is fun, Zelda is great (a few slowdowns, but...) Stereo music is
O.K. if your right in front of you stereo TV, other than that music is
comparible with SEGA games. I would have to say that the graphics on
ZELDA were done exceptionally well.
Sorry I probably didn't help your decision much, but, I think that
there are positives for both...My kids actually perfer the games that
we have for the NES...
Ron.
