750.0. "Destination: EARTHSTAR" by HSOMAI::RENTERIA () Mon Jun 08 1992 14:11

    Hi. I did a dir/title=, but didn't find this game.

    My roommate bought it at Blockbuster, used, for only $5.00. We had
    Gradius on long term loan, but returned it recently, and were
    interested in a new space game.

    Destination: Earthstar came with no directions at all, and it is unlike
    the Mario-type game, or the role-playing type game. We have not
    figured out what we're doing, or even what we're *supposed* to be
    doing!

    Does anyone else have this game, or a clue as to how to play it?

    Any help would be appreciated.

    THANKS!!

    Anita

750.1What's supposed to happenhere?MR4DEC::SOTOSat Jun 27 1992 12:509
    Hi! I have this game also, for over a year, and the same story here,
    I can't figure it out....doesn't make sense, especially if you don't
    know what the objective of the game is...

    Any/all help will be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks!

750.2Destination: FRUSTRATION!HSOMAI::RENTERIATue Jun 30 1992 17:4757

    Hi Annie! Wow, somebody else *has* heard of this game...I was
    beginning to wonder!

    We have figured out a very little bit.

    When you begin, there is a Grid map on the left of your screen. It has
    some configuration of A's, B's, 1's and 2's. You will see your ship
    represented there, too. I do not know what most of that means, but
    have discovered this: If you go to the 1's or the 2, you will
    encounter enemy ships (either 1 or 2...get it?).

    Rotate the ship and move forward (UP and B held down provide a "warp"
    speed) until you are on the designated number. Turning is either
    clockwise or counterclockwise.

    ONce you're there, notice the two "radar" screens at the far lower
    right. These show you where you are in relation to the enemy ship.
    That is, if it appears to be above you, move up, which on our control
    is the DOWN button...go figure. Also, down is UP. VERY hard to get
    used to, but basically, you want to center the enemy ship on those
    screens.

    Now the bottom middle screen, adjacent to the two radar
    screens, shows you which direction the enemy is approaching from. Turn
    your ship toward it on that screen, being careful to stay centered by
    using the two radar screens. If it disappears, check the Grid
    map...you are no longer on the target.

    Still with me? If you are on right square on the GRid map, have the
    ship centered on the radar screens, AND are facing the ship on the
    bottom middle screen, you *should* see a huge ship attacking you on the
    large main screen. FIRE! Lasers seem to be most effective, but you
    will run out of weapons quickly if you just randomly shoot.

    THe statistics readout says Enemies...4. As you kill the ships, the
    number decreases. Each hit you take is shown on a bar below the bottom
    middle screen.    GOOD LUCK!!

    So far, that's it. I've managed to eliminate all 4 enemies. At this
    point, you get a message that says "SECTOR SECURE. PROCEED TO ENEMY
    BASE." A new "B" lights up on the Grid map. When I get to it, it's a
    large, elusive ball, and nothing seems to affect it. I usually run out
    of weapons, or time, or energy.

    Hope this is helpful. WISH I COULD GET FURTHER!! The marketing blurb
    on the box indicates that all the real action is inside the enemy base,
    but I sure as h*ll can't figure out how to get in there.

    Bleah to games with no instructions and NO HELP IN NOTES!!! :)

    See ya!

750.3Destination: NOWHERE!MR4DEC::SOTOThu Jul 09 1992 20:2717
    Hi, Anita!!!

    YES! I felt the same way when I saw your note posted here!

    Thanks for the tips...I have managed now to get to the point you have
    explained...the base...and yes, you are right, I have NO IDEA how to
    get inside of the BASE!

    Do you think that only you and I (both named the same) bought this
    game? hahahaha

    Keep me posted on your progress...I will try to do the same...but,
    it could probably take me some years to figure this one out.

    Hope to hear from you soon.

    Nothing new? Gee, maybe Annie and I *are* the only two people in the
    world who bought this game...
