744.0. "Workboy (Game Boy)" by WIDGIT::WEST (Let's get GUI) Thu Apr 30 1992 00:14

Way Cool new item for the Game Boy !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  Introducing the Workboy from Fabtek.

I just received my Nintendo Power mag today and there is a section on this
new "toy".

This new item consists of software, a stand, and a -=> KEYBOARD <=-.

  The keyboard's size is 5 3/4" x 3 1/2". There are "more than a dozen
useful functions". The keyboard is a "qwerty" style keyboard with function
keys and "arrow" keys for cursor movement.

The functions described are as follows: (The descriptions are from the mag
and everything in parens [()] are my words)

 o Local Clock
Workboy keeps track of the time, showing a traditional clock, and the date.
The Clock function also allows you to set an alarm or reset the time.

 o Daybook
Keep track of all your important appointments using the Daybook feature.
(Provides a date, time, alarm, and countdown fields. Also provides an
     area for textual message)

  o Temperature
Hot or cold? Convert Fahrenheit temperatures to Celsius, or vice versa.
(Picture shows a thermometer with an F scale on one side and a C scale
       on the other)

  o Control Menu
Clear stored records or change your Home City in the Control Menu.
(Not sure what the "Home City" feature is for)

  o Calendar
Look ahead or back in time. What are you doing Friday the 13th, January
      1995 ?
(Picture shows a "typical" calendar page)

  o Exchange
Use the Exchange Conversion function to change your bucks to six other
      currencies.
(Hmmm...wonder if you can change the "rate" of conversion that seems to
       change every other day ?)

  o Records
Workboy's battery backed-up data base will keep important facts and
figures close at hand. Store addresses, notes, figures and facts,
or your best Metroid II tip.

  o Measures
Since the rest of the world deals with metric measurements, it's good
to know what they're talking about. Convert linear, liquid and weight
      measures.
(Choices are "To Metric" and "From Metric")

  o Accounts
Keep track of your precious golden horde by entering your current bank
      account balance.

  o Travel
This feature is great for globe trotting. The Map gives time and
dialing code info for major cities. The Translator has useful foreign
      words.

  o Calculator
Keep your numbers accurate with the Calculator. You have the four
      basic arithmetic functions plus percentages.

  o Phone
The Workboy can auto-dial from a list of telephone numbers in the address
      book data base.
Hold the mouth piece of the phone to the Game Boy speaker, then
      auto-dial.

There is also a five language mini-translator and 255 year appointment book.

The keys on the keyboard are about the size of the A and B buttons on the
Game Boy. The keyboard connects to the Game Boy via the Video Link.

Looks pretty cool. No idea what the cost is...has anyone actually seen
one of these yet ??

Guessing from all of the other descriptions you provided us, it sounds like it
also has world time. That was if you can change your "Home City", then your
clock will adjust accordingly. Sounds very much like the functions of my
SHARP electronic organizer, except it doesn't play game.
