696.0. "Conference Theme" by ALIEN::EDP (Always mount a scratch monkey.) Mon Dec 02 1991 09:14

It has been suggested to me that we rename this conference to
NINTENDO_NES to distinguish it from SUPER_FAMICOM, which might be
    renamed to NINTENDO_SUPER_NES.

What do participants of this conference think? Should we limit this
conference to NES games only, or should we have discussion of both NES
    and Super NES games here?

If we share everything here, there might be some confusion about games
with similar titles, and you would have to go through more notes to
find the ones you were interested in. If we distinguish the
conferences, you will not see information about games for the other
system, so you will not know how much enthusiasm it is or is not
    generating.

    Which do you prefer?

I say limit this conference to NES issues only.

    My two cents,

Now that there's a seperate (and very active) SNES file, I vote that
we restrict this file to NES and Gameboy, and only allow SNES and other
16-bit discussions when and if they relate to the NES/Gameboy (i.e.
    comparisons of NES features/games to those of SNES; comparative surveys;
    news articles, etc...).

As far as the conference name goes, I vote that it remain "Nintendo".

Seperate the conferences! This one should be strictly NES and Gameboy.
Personally, I hit next unseen when I see its for the Super NES (Will be
a long time before I covert).

On Confernce names, doesn't make me any difference, just let me know if
it does change so I can modify RNU (gets my notes in batch).

    Later...

Okay, it seems the consensus is for this conference to be for NES and
Gameboy. I'll write that up and add it to topic 1 when I have a
    moment.

Some people did not want the name changed. I agree that "Nintendo" is
a nice, simple name, but if we want to keep the conferences separate,
it is important to let people who open the conference know that this is
not a Super Nintendo conference. Changing the name to "Nintendo_NES"
would help. I could change the welcome message; that might be enough,
    but it might not.

If I did change the name, I could just enter a new file name in the
directory, and people could change their Notebooks. Eventually, I
would remove the old file name. This change would not affect anybody's
seen maps at all, because it would be exactly the same file with two
    names for a period.

Many of you might have had trouble accessing this conference at one
time or another, with messages such as "exceeded enqueue quota". We
tried limiting the links per Notes process; this did not solve the
problem but might have mitigated it. We think the problem is caused
by a bug, not system parameters, and will be upgrading both Notes and
VMS on this system. Until then, if you get an "exceeded enqueue quota"
message when trying to open this conference, just drop me mail and I
will correct the problem as soon as I read the mail.
