Hi , I have a friend who has just returned from the US with a NES system, he was on the plane home when he remembered that US and UK televisions are different. Is there anytway to modify a system so that it will work correctly with a british television. He has already tried to hook it up with a workaround and can get a black and white picture but no colour. the picture isn't great as well so any help would be appreciated. He doesn't mind if he has to swap some bits around inside of the console if it will help. So the picture is a US console , US games and british television. Help..... thanks in advance dave murray ( a UK nintendo user who cant afford a famicon )

hi, re last two replys. 1. notes 618,588 & 28 dont give me info on converting a US CONSOLE to run on a UK tv. The power is supplied thorugh a transformer so all I need is a way to fix the tv signal so that it will work with a british tv. thanks again | |||||

You could try asking the Nintendo helpline how much they might charge (since they will convert US cartridges) but bear in mind how much a new console costs. It might be cheaper to by one here and convert it (using the method described elsewhere) to run US games. Alternatively it depends how much you are in to electronics. There's a single electronic assembly that modulates the video signal to rf, so if this was a standard a recognised electronic part (look in a Maplins catalogue and see if you strike it lucky) and not proprietary to Nintendo you could locate the PAL equivalent (USA TV standard is NTSC) and substitute that. But theres probably even more to it than that since the number of lines is different (625 in Europe, 550? in US) and you will have seen from other notes that Nintendo have a lockout device in the cartridges which prevents UK cartridges working in the US and vice versa. -Mike- |
