640.0. "Dungeon Magic" by RIPPLE::GRANT_JO (monkey violates heavens) Thu May 30 1991 19:22

    I did a dir/ on `dungeon' and on `magic' and found nothing.
    Just my luck! I always seem to be playing games no one
    else wants. And with this one, I can see why.

    I got it for $25, and it's probably worth it. In some ways
    it is pretty typical. You've got a wasted world, wasted by
    an evil guy, and you control a hero who goes to incredible
    lengths to find things and fight monsters and stuff.

    What is strange about it is the view: entirely "3D" and
    from the point-of-view of the character. It is also very
    difficult to get money and experience. Takes forever.

    Any help out there?

640.1My sympathyMORO::MAPPS_RINo Use For Rumour On DeviceThu May 30 1991 19:309
    No help, but you have my sympathy - except I paid 49.95 for it, so I
    should have yours :,)
    I gave up on the game because it took hours to build up money, and I
    usually got killed before I could get to the city to get my life back
    up, losing the money (of course) when I died.
    Also the 3d perspective was not to my liking.

    Good Luck, you're a better warrior than I am

640.2a real pain in the dungeonRIPPLE::GRANT_JOmonkey violates heavensFri May 31 1991 12:0428
    Yeah, it's tough to get that money. I'm still carrying the
    lowest level shield and armor and the second-lowest sword.
    (It looks like a mace) You get between 1-4 coins per monster
    and have to spend 2 coins every time you save/heal at an
    Inn.

    The dungeons are wickedly designed and not easy to map. The
    3D perspective means it all looks pretty much the same. Every
    time you use magic you spend hit points. You can't kill the
    bigger monsters (at least without major armor and weapons)
    without using magic. You can refill your hit points with
    potions and food, but the potions and food are so expensive!

    I think I am just going to have to bite the bullet and wander
    around for a few hours building up enough cash to get better
    armor and weapons. I've found a few such items in dungeons,
    but have yet to find anything better than what I already have.

    I've now got the flight ring, and that's one tough sucker to
    find! Now I'm up in the sky in wandering around a cave that
    holds enormous ogres who eat my lunch.

    I guess the good news is that if you like "challenges" this
    is the game. But I do wish they didn't make it so tough
    to get money...

640.3BOOOO!, HISSSSSS!!!COMET::ROUTHIERJSun Jun 02 1991 20:329
    I HAVE TAKEN THIS GAME TO THE VERY END!!! The beginning and middle
     are much better than the GRAND FINALE, this game has the worst ending
     of all the adventure games I have played. After everything that you
     go through to get to the last obstacle, it is a terrible let down!!

    Well, GURU, congrats, even if the ending stunk.

    So how about a little help?

    I just went through the maze where you get the little thing
    that looks like a tree branch. The maze is near the town
    (I forget the name) that is farthest south and east. Townspeople
    are now telling me about a sunken city south of Bell. They
    also tell me about a sword stuck in ice.

    Any clues for myself, the clueless?

640.5HELP FOR THE HELPLESS!!!COMET::ROUTHIERJFri Jul 05 1991 23:189
    Okay clueless, to get to the sunken town you must mix some of those
     wonderfull spells together to open the ocean. (It should take a
     couple of hours.) now, about the sword in the ice ( more spells),
     it is in the forest west of the main city. YOU WILL LEARN TO HATE
     THIS GAME!!!

                 Good luck,
                           lord, god, king, GURU!!

    Some of the people in one of the towns tell me that Taz is imprisoned
    in the north tower. Where is the tower? WHo is Taz?

    Also, how do you get by the wizard at the end of the maze across the
    water. (I'm asking for someone else.)

    Thanks.

640.7Where is Moses when you need him?BROKE::PROTEAUJean-Claude ProteauSat Oct 10 1992 14:0415
    RE .5:

    Sword in the ice was easy.

    But getting the ocean to open is another matter. We've been at it for
    more than a couple of hours. We have 4 of the 5 wizard spell combos
    (missing WIND, next to lowest on the screen). We've tried about a
    fourth of the over 4000 possible permutations of spell symbols, but so
    far no luck.

    Does the location matter? We're assuming that the spot wioth the music
    is where we should be. Also, does it matter whether or not you are
    paralyzed? Sometimes we get to the water after as few fly bites and
    forget to get cured right away.

    Grrrrrrrrrr. Feel like a dummy. We pick the one spot that the water
    spell DOESN'T work. ANYplace else is fine.
