609.0. "U.K.+ FORMATS." by SCOAYR::SSTEELE () Wed Mar 06 1991 20:47

     Hi there,
Does anyone know what other format of games will
work on the U.K. version of the NES,if so do the
cartridges slip in no bother or do you need an
adapter of some kind.also does anyone know of
a shop or store in the U.K.that does mail order.
i only have three games as the selection i have
where i stay is limited to say the least, even
dr.livingstone would have a hard time finding
a good selection of games here.
any names and addresses of the above would be most
helpful,or anybody wishing to sell a game or three
              drop me a reply.

                          waiting to hear from you,

                                              jr.

        jr,

You cannot unfortunatly use US games in a UK NES, and you cannot
use Jananese games as a rule. You can get adapters for Japanese
games from quite a few of the importers, Tokyo Joe for one. They
cost about $14, you can get the address, telephone number etc
from any of the 'comics'. It is certainly is in this months 'Mean
Machine', I don't have a copy with me so I cannot help you
        directly.

As for shops there are several in Scotland, and at least one in
Glasgow which isn't too far from you. The best place for these is
in Computer and Video Games Monthly.

    Jim,

Are there any Toys R Us stores in Scotland??. They normally stock all
kinds of games for Nintendo's. If not try Rumbelows or Dixons/Curry's.
There was another big toy store specific to Scotland but I can't
remember the name of it. (It was the one with the Giant if thats any
help). Regards U.S Nintendo game sets, they will fit into your system,
but will not work as they are a different format. However if you search
this note file you will find a work around to this which involves
connecting two pins inside the system. This seems a bit drastic but if
you have an avenue into cheap games from the states it's worth looking
    at.

You'll probably find that the majority of notes in this file are for
U.S gamesets, as there seems to be little reply to any specific U.K
questions. Let me know how you get on.

P.S Which 3 games do you have at present.

   Re.2
Thank you for your reply, there is a Toys R Us in Scotland but
haven't managed to get up to it,i was wondering if it was owned
by the same company, obviously it is.
The games i have are SMB,SMB2 and RYGAR.
Would you like to swap,if so what games do you have, all my games
well the three that i have, all have instructions and are in their
       boxes.
As for Rumbelows or Dixons/Curry's they have a limited selection
of games to say the least.

                          thanks for now,
                                        jr

609.4How about a swapGIGHA::DMURRAYFri Apr 12 1991 10:218
hi jim,

Since I only sit a few yards away, do you still fancy a swap on games.
I have SMB 2 and Tenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. but I'm off to the states soon and
I'll bring some back with me. I'll be trying out the wire option next week with
some US games I can borrow.

609.5You can get it converted ... CRANEB::CRANETue Apr 23 1991 07:086
You can get US games converted by Nintendo at Watford for a mere 10 quid ! They
told me they put different chips in ... If you call the hotline for service
enquiries you should get the right people. I had SMB3 converted sometime back.
