591.0. "Dragon's Lair" by DELREY::FERCHAK_DA (TWILIGHT ZONE RESIDENT) Mon Jan 14 1991 16:54

In its arcade days, Dragon's Lair was the only game that I ever
fully mastered (with help). Now there is a Nintendo version of this
game. It's on my "future buy" list, but it's always sold out when
I go to get it. Has anyone played this yet? (and if so) What is it
like? The graphics are suppose to be fantastic.

I rented this game... good graphics but the movement is very very
slow. I played it for a few hours and put it away. Jumping was
very difficult for me. I would jump up and drop down and could
never duck fast enough, press the button and count to two. I
    definatly would not buy it.

    my opinion,

None of my video stores had it for rent. So when I finally found a
place that had it for sale I picked it up. I am sufficiently upset
about this game. It had so much potential for greatness. The graphics
are very good. The music is decent. The movement is crap. For a
character who is supposed to be rushing to the rescue he moves like a
turtle. I don't like the fact that you can't turn around on your hands
and knees. You have to stand up, turn around and get back down again.
That is absolutely ridiculous. There are to many bats coming at you
(which wouldn't be bad if the movement were faster). Actually, the
slow reaction kills you in a lot of places (and I haven't managed to
get that far into the game yet). I can't see how anyone could get
through the entire game with only the five lives given you. The only
thing higher than my anticipation for this game was my disappointment
in it. As much as it pains me to say, I definitely would not
recommend buying this game (unless you love frustration and
aggravation and feeling like you've wasted your money). Oh well, that
makes three games that I've regretted buying now.

591.3Bad games?NEST::CURRYTue Feb 12 1991 20:225
    Hi David!
What were the 2 other games that you bought and
    regret buying them now?

    Mike,

The very first game that I bought (not counting the Mario Bros. game
you get with the system) was Silver Surfer. This sounded like a decent
game to buy that would be fun. What do I think is a fun game? A game
that starts out easy (for us amateurs) and progressively gets harder.
I know that I will probably never reach the end of any game, since I'm
not to good at these things and I don't put in hours upon hours on
them, but if I can get through a few screens at first I'm content. In
my opinion, Silver Surfer starts you out on all levels as if you're an
expert. You are bombarded with fast moving attack groups that need
more than one shot to kill. Plus there is another world you can enter
if you can figure out the password. I feel that they should just give
it to you. They tell you to watch for the password in upcoming
Nintendo magazines. Every now and then I play this game, since I paid
for it I might as well, but I don't enjoy it as much as I thought I
    would.
The other game I could have done without is Donkey Kong Classics. I
don't have any problems with it speed or difficulty wise, its just a
boring game. It seemed more fun when I played it years ago at the
arcade. Maybe I just remembered wrong. My mistake on this one.

I completely agree with you on this one. I used to have lots of fun
playing this in the arcades. I borrowed it from my brother in law
and I was not impressed at all.

591.6Manual needed !?UTROP1::FUHREN_PDutch member versus Dutch concertFri Dec 17 1993 04:5622
....to start an old discussion again....

my wife yesterday bought Dragon's Lair (so no need to tell me I
shouldn't buy it...) 'cause it had a decent price. I did try to play
the game but it had a Danish or Norwegian manual. So really don't know
if there are any gadgets. Did got in the castle, but at that time it
    was bedtime...
Any clues.? Allright I allready know it's slooooow, but is there
special something to look for etc. Any help appreciated.

I hope I don't get as disapointed as the previous noters, but anyway,
it's primarily for the children. I hope they will enjoy themselves.

re. a few back: I can turn when I'm on my knees (playing the game of course)

BTW are there some Game Genie codes for this game (467.* won't help),
maybe you can get mote lives, or quicker action...
