552.3 | Dragon Warrior II - Worth the Wait | COEM::SCOPA | MAJOR | Wed Jan 02 1991 13:57 | 21 |
| Okay it's time we start doing justice to this game. I had to wait for
Xmas so my son could open it up and I've been playing it ever since.
I've got my primary character at level 20/21 and my prince (Numor) is
around 17 and my princess (Ollisa) is around 12.
I've gotten two crests and assorted weapons and such.
I would like to say that if you are an Ultima fan or a Dragon Warrior I
fan then you'll enjoy this game. It is DEEP.
Here's a question. Has anyone purchased the Jailer's Key yet? I know
where to buy it it's just that I don't know what type of money our
friend is looking for.
Has anyone notice the "wrapping effect" of the screen? That is, if I am
at the top of the map and keep going up (in my ship of course) sooner
that you can say Alfegard you're at the bottom.
How are you coming along with this game Eric?

> How are you coming along with this game Eric?
I'm done, surprisingly. Usually I get a game and lots of people pass
me because I play it a bit and then play other games before coming back
to it. But this time I played Dragon Warrior II all the way through,
over the vacation. It took a while.
To buy the Jailor's Key, you need:
2000 pieces of gold.

I'm at level 23 for my prime character right now and have gotten three

I'm having a problem finding the crest in that tower which is in the
middle of the water.
High high up in levels did you end up going before you ended the game?

| Okay two questions:
1. I've got the moon fragment but am not sure where I am to go to
use it.
2. Where can I find the Eye of Malroth?
Also, as you look at the map there is a small island on the eastern
portion which has a cave on it. The water is so shallow I cannot get
my ship close enough to get onto the island. I've tried many things,
including the magic transporter holes but cannot seem to get there.
I'm stumped.

(I can't answer 2 from memory; if somebody else does not answer it,
I'll check my notes.)
> 1. I've got the moon fragment but am not sure where I am to go to
> use it.
When the moon fragment is held high (used), the waters are raised for
you.
Reefs are dangerous because a ship that runs over them can have its
bottom destroyed.
Every ship has a certain draft, a depth of water its bottom goes to.
At high tide, there is more water over a reef; the reef is further down
from the surface.
There's a place surrounded by reefs that you cannot reach normally.
It is an island (far) south of the castle the game starts at and east
of that continent Hamlin is on.

I think that cave has a number of hidden rooms which are accessible
only by falling through traps. In any room which are dead ends (the
only exit is the way you came in), walk around all the squares to see
if you fall into another room.
If you can't find it this way (or it takes too long), enter another
note -- I've got the maps and can look up where the traps are.

I found a way to get over 60,000 gold in about 5 minutes...
go to the castle you start the game in after you have the gold
and the jailor keys. Go down the stairs in the upper right corner
and defeat the clown in the cell guarded by barriers. When (and if)
you kill him you should receive the staff of thunder which has a
great resale value (over 19k). Sell the staff, speak with the king
and save the game answering NO to continue playing, hit reset button
and begin the process all over again until you sell the staff 3 times.
You can only hold up to 65536 in gold (the typical binary maximum)
This was the ONLY way I could get enough gold for the mink coat
since my team had a way of spending large amounts on revivals!

you need to obtain the moon fragment to raise the shallow waters
and allow your vessel to pass.

<spoilers!>
The Thunder sword is also in the cave. To find it you must fall down
the pit trap located in the south-west corner of the very large room
with one set of stairs in the north-east.
To get throw the cave is a bit tricky. One wrong turn sends you several
sections back to where you stared. I'm going on memory here but I
believe you want to get to the room with alot of pit traps and columns
and go north all the way then east to the stairs going up. When (if?)
you make it that far you want to go east to T section, east again, lower
eastward passage, north, take west northern passage at the fork, go east
at the last T section and up the stairs.
If you make it to Rhone head strait for the monolith and SAVE! I did
not make it one time and boy did I scream. Good luck.
Also, has anyone ever received the Dragon's Potion for killing a
metal babble? I diced up several dozen with no luck. I was able to
solve the game but I still wanted to see that potion do it's stuff.

552.83 | CHANCE is neat. {If you use it enough times} | SUBSYS::SCHNARE | CHARLIE SCHNARE | Sun Apr 21 1991 17:33 | 18 |
| If you use CHANCE enough times you do say several new spells.
One of them is a super HEAL. All the people in your party are each
healed with this spell. Also it chants a spell of confusion. This makes
one enemy attack other enemies. And the third spell is a great
sorcerors call. This just makes all the enemys run away. In all the
spell of CHANCE is still not worth all the magic points but if your
playing for fun or experience it isn't all that bad. Another thing-
CHANCE will not ever pick SACRIFICE for a spell.
PS- Would anyone like to let me have their map that they sent away for
because I am really stuck in the cave of rhone and all the traps are
driving me up the wall. I just can't seem to find my way out into rhone.
I will pay a reasonable price lets say about $4.

| Re .86:
I don't think the Dew's Yarn is actually ever "there" until you have
actually found it. That is, it is not the case that the Dew's Yarn is
assigned some location and just sits there until you find it. Rather,
I think that when you are walking around on the correct floor of the
tower, then every time you take a step and search, the game gives you a
one out of some number chance of finding the Yarn. So you have to keep
moving until you find it. You might find it right away, or you might
cover every square several times before you find it.

| I've managed to get into the cave I believe the Charm of Rubiss is in (the one
you need the moon crest to get into)...
I couldn't find anything within the immediate cave, except at the lowest level
I could see another section I could not gain access to. I'm assuming that
there is some "trick" one needs to employ to get there. I've tried searching
in a number of places, but so far have not had any luck. Rather than spend a
LOT of time searching the entire place and not succeeding, I post a couple of
questions (hoping for minimal spoilers):
o is there indeed a way to get into that other section?
o is searching the answer?
o could it be an item I need?
o is this simple a cruel ruse?

There is a hint that says you need an item that you already have since you made

are really only 2 one must have to have gotten to Rhone. Well that just ain't

| I must be missing something, because everyone in this note is a lot
farther than I have been able to get. I choose to attribute it to the
lack of a map...
I have only 1 key (silver) and am stuck finding the princess. I have
been to the burned castle and been told to find a mirror and have been
to the tower close by and gotten the cape that helps me when I jump.
But I cannot find the princess, and I also think I should have the gold
key by now. Obviously, without the princess I cannot get into the
next section of the game since the bridge keeper will not let me pass
without saving her.
Any help?

| Look for the Mirror of RA:
East (right) of the burnt castle (Moonbroke), you will find four
bridges (they should all be on the screen). Search the swamp. Then,
visit a friendly dog in Hamlin, and, while facing it, use the Mirror.
You can't get the gold key w/out a ship, which is obtainable in
Lianport.

| I did some more hunting around and re-reading clues from townspeople
and have now found all crests with the exception of the water crest.
From clues I have read I believe that
I will need the Echoing Flute (which I have) and I need to be looking
in a tower or monolith somewhere. But I have looked quite a bit
through towers and monoliths with no success. Is it possible I am
looking in the wrong tower, or that my character needs to blow the
flute? Right now, Lars is doing it.

552.107 | Trouble uncursing the sword of destruction | PTOVAX::SNOW | | Sun Feb 16 1992 15:13 | 25 |
| Having a little trouble with the sword of destruction.
I have obtained my third (no I'm not kidding). I tried to figure out
to uncurse it, and remembered the Wiz at the castle (forgot it's name).
But the Wiz just says it to hard to uncurse. So I tried the Healer,
and he said it was uncursed. By the time I notice that the sword was
gone, I had already saved once. So, when I got the second sword, I
paid closer attention, and sure enough, it was the uncursing that
removed the sword. So, here I sit with my third sword. Tried the Wiz
multiple times. Tried without equiping the sword (tells me to come
back when I'm cursed). Tried with the sword equip'd (tells me that he
has not the skill). Tried "Using" the sword when facing the guy. Tried
uncursing after using the sword successfully in battle, no change. So
then I tried the notesfile, which told me to see this guy.
What am I doing wrong? Do I have to be more experianced? Do you have
to start with easier curses? Do you need the Wizard's Ring, or some
other dependancy? If you have uncursed the sword of destruction, tell
me what you did (using little words :).
BTW, what is the other guy in the castle (who seems to bless you) all
about?
