547.0. "Light Boy - GAME BOY accessory" by DPDMAI::CESAK () Sun Nov 11 1990 13:36

There is a new gadget out for the Gameboy called Light Boy. It is
supposed to be a magnifier with a light. Has anyone purchased one
    and tried it?

Yes, I have one - it helps quite a bit, although there is some axial
distortion because of the lens curvature. The light is also a big help
if you play on airplanes (as I do quite a bit).

You can get Light Boy at Toys 'R Us and other places for around $27.

I've been using a Light Boy for a couple of weeks now and like it.
I've had some trouble following Super Mario Land, but that may be a
combination of the larger viewing angle and my coordination. I've been
playing Final Fantasy with it, and it's great for that.

I've found that Light Boy isn't so good when you already have adequate
lighting since the frame casts a shadow on the Game Boy screen. This
makes for unacceptable contrast, even with the Light Boy's light on.
Solution: Move away from the light...

    It's got my vote,

If you find the cost of the Light Boy too high, there is an alternative
Game Boy light made by Numa. I purchased one this weekend at Kay-Bee
    Toys for a mere $10.

I opted for the Numa because I only wanted the light and not the lens
(the Numa has no magnifier). The Numa clips very neatly onto the front
of the Gameboy; it looks almost built-in, as opposed to the "add-on"
appearance of the Light Boy. (Strictly IMHO.....;^)

Best of all, it works GREAT! It uses four AA batteries to power a pair
of *bright* grain-of-wheat bulbs and really lights up the screen. In
the car at night, its as visible as with the best natural light.

So if you need the light but not the magnification, give the Numa a
    try!

Whoops - I kept calling it a "Numa" light; it is actually by NUBY.
    Well, I got it half-right.... :*[
