485.0. "Chip 'n Dale Rescue Rangers" by ADDISN::SWEENEY () Tue Jul 10 1990 13:46
Well I couldn't resist this one when I saw it at Toys 'r Us in Appleton
Wisconsin. Especially since I was trapped in a house with 4 kids who had
the Chicken Pox and were itching for something to do.
The game is based on the Chip 'n Dale Rescue Rangers cartoon. You can play
either Chip or Dale, and if two are playing, then both characters are used.
This game is very similar in feel to Duck Tales. It's made by the same people,
Capcom, and has graphics that are even better than Duck Tales. In this game you
must get through an initial level, than levels A through J. Fat Kat and his
gang is waiting all along the way to interrupt your journey. At the end of
level J, Fat Kat himself is waiting as the final test.
The game comes with a limited continue option, and you can earn one ups by
finding hidden flowers and stars. Finding acorns fills a portion of your life
meter. Along the way you travel through alleys, science labs, lunch counters,
jump over slow cookers, turn off drippy faucets, run through toy land, hit
a casino, and see a variety of other things. A lot of really neat enemies with
different ways to bop you. A little rabbit pulls the rug out from under you,
jack-in-the-boxes that pop out at you, mechanical dogs, kangaroos that
serve up tennis balls and other villians.
Bad Features:
o The game plays a little to easy for my taste. I've made it to the end of
level i and have played only a few times.
o Playing two people is more difficult than with one. It's easier to fall
off cliffs (aka Contra) and lose your life.
Good Features:
o The game plays easily and is great for the younger set. The 7 year olds thru
12 year olds that played mine were eating the game up.
o Graphics are great. When Chip or Dale pick up an apple, sweat streams off
of them. When they hide in a box, you see two little blinking eyes.
o There are more areas to conquer than in Duck Tales, and the character control
is easier.
o Even though playing with two is more difficult, it is a good deal of fun.
You can throw things at one another, and the chipmunk that gets hit sees
stars. You can also pick the other guy up and throw him.
o A cute, well thought out game.
If you like fun games, then this one is worth the $49.99 I shelled out. Go buy
it. If you like challenging games, go rent this one and complete it in a day
or two. You'll enjoy the chuckles it will give you. I'd give this one a very
solid 9 out of 10.
(All of the above is solely my opinion)

485.1 | 12 year old girl agrees! | GLDOA::PINTO | | Tue Jul 10 1990 14:43 | 4 |
| Good assessment of this game. I saw it first at the Nintendo show in
Worcester this spring. I went with a 12 year old girl who liked this
game quite a bit. She doesn't care much for the fighting/shooting
games (of which there were countless varieties offered!).

485.3 | defeat of FAT CAT | FSOA::JLOUTHAN | | Sat Oct 13 1990 20:56 | 10 |
| Hi;
There is a place on the screen were "FAT CAT" can't get you. After he
drops the ashes to the ground ,get under him and throw the ball up at
him. You should be able to defeat him easily if you find the spot.

Once you get to Fat Cats Lair, stand on the second bar which
appears on his desk. Hit him with the ball, by pressing up when holding
it. (five time) If it doesn't work, get Nintendo power mag.....

485.5 | Help needed | VIRGO::MONTOYA | LOIS | Mon Feb 18 1991 10:44 | 11 |
| This question is for my kids, who recently got this game. Their ages
4.5 and 7. They get though the mechanical dogs scene and through the
laboratory scene and then enter this room where there is a machine-like
thing with arms on it. They pick up this red ball but can't figure out
how to get out of this room, what to do with the red ball, how to stop
this thing from shooting these little lightening bolts.
Spoilers welcomed because kids are getting bored trying to figure this
one out.

485.6 | Hold up when throwing object | HALLEY::BELANGER | | Mon Feb 18 1991 11:36 | 2 |
| Hold the up arrow when throwing the ball. This sends the ball straight up.
You must hit the head of the bad guy a few times to defeat it.

SPOILER follows for relief from those twirly guys...
Grab a box and throw it at the head. The object is to get the two
weights to spin very fast. Then it's safe to run through while they're
still spinning.
Hope it helps.. James
