482.0. "Games for Light Gun" by BAGELS::MATSIS () Mon Jul 02 1990 11:37

I'd like to start this note for games made for the Light Gun.

I've seen two games out and am wondering if anyone has tried them.

The name of one is Shooting range. I guess you are in a space setting
in some scenes and then in the Wild West in other scenes.

The other game that I saw looked pretty good. It's called Baby
Boomers. The box says that it's the best rated game for the light
gun. Graphics looked good. I don't know if it's old or new. I
didn't happen to look at the date.

    Thanks, Pam

482.2And the ever popular Duck HuntHOLIDY::WHITTALLThe 'PROPS' ManThu Jul 12 1990 10:1515
On the NES system I received for Christmas, the game cartridge contained
the following three games on one cartridge

		Super Mario Brothers f
Olympics (or something like that) for the power pad

		and DUCK HUNT....

My 5 & 3 yr olds like this one.. By standing close
to the set, my 3yr old is able to make it to level
3 or 4... then her attention span fades..
My 1 year old uses the regular hand controller, and
		thinks he's playing along.. :-)

I've got a game called GOTCHA, which is loosely based on a paint-ball
game (new-age 'capture-the-flag'). You use your controller in one hand
to move your view across the screen horizontally, and use your gun in
the other hand to blast the enemy with 'paintballs'. You move thru a
cityscape as well as forests and fields, and the enemies pop out from
behind buildings, trees, rocks, etc., and shoot back at you.

The object of the game is for you to move all the way across the
playing field to the enemy's camp, grab their flag, and return it
safely back across the playing field to your home base, without getting
shot. At the same time, one of the enemy is attempting to reach your
base, get your flag, and return it to his base. There's a gauge along
the edge of the screen that marks the relative positions of the flags.
You use this gauge to determine if your flag's been snatched as well as
how close they are to you. You can see the enemy sneaking along with
your flag, and with pateince, can blast him, which stops him and returns
your flag back to your home base. First one safely back to their own base
    with the other's flag, wins!

Pretty entertaining game...fun to pick up and play from time to time,
but not a game that holds up for hours at a time...

I rented Baby Boomer last night. It is put out by Color Dreams which
is probably why you don't see it in the stores. It is not licensed
by Nintendo. The box says that it is the best rated game for the
    light gun.

Baby Boomer is looking for his Mom. You have to help him by shooting
all of the baddies and dangers along the way. There are different
scenes. In the 2nd level, he is in a graveyard. Mommies, bats,
spiders, etc try to get him. You have to shoot at all of the milk
bottles or he runs out of milk and loses a life. When you lose a life,
    he starts crying.

This game is very good. The graphics are good (would rate them as a
7, about as good as Simon's Quest). One of the good points is that
2 can play at the same time. One uses the gun and the other can use
a controller. A [x] shows up in the screen when you use the controller
so that you know where you are aiming. My nephews had a ball with
this game (5&7). The game is VERY challenging. My sister and I played
together as a team and it took us over an hour trying to get through
stage 3. We couldn't put it down. I don't see how 1 person could get
through this game. The first 2 stages you can get through by yourself,
but the 3rd seems impossible. Just got to the 4th and forget about
that one. Your in some kind of castle.

I'd give this game an 8. (10 for difficulty)

If anyone sees it for sale in Southern, NH, please let me know. I'd
like to buy it for my nephews for Christmas.
