474.0. "Nemesis (Game Boy)" by JUPITR::POTTERG () Fri Jun 15 1990 08:57

Has anybody bought the game Nemesis for the Game Boy? If so could you
write something on how you like it and what it is about? I was
thinking of getting this game because it looked interesting. I hear
the graphics and sound are pretty good.

    Thanks,

I have it.

It's almost Gradius (Famicom/NES).

There is a function to select a level, number of ship, scene.

I think it is the greatest shoot'em up for Game boy now.

The movement is so good.

The sound,too good.

Any other info?

474.2Nemesis, get this one.JUPITR::POTTERGWed Jun 20 1990 10:058
I picked up Nemesis last night. You are right this game has excellent
graphics and sound. The playability and control is very good. The
detail to the graphics is excellent, it even has multiple backgrounds and
foregrounds moving at different speeds. With the number of enemies on
the screen at one time I would expect some flickering of the images but
there was none that I noticed. Excellent game, I recommend this one.

Here is a reply entered by my 12 year old son, David, who wanted to
pass on some tips and special codes he had learned about for the
    Nemisis game.

I have had nemisis for about six months and so far it is true that
it does have great graphics. The story line for the game is that you
are a future sheriff trying to catch king Nemisis and get him back in
prison (were he excaped from) in the "spaceship Protus 911, the most high
tech ship of the time" (quote-unquote).

If you want to beat it you must select skill level 2, otherwise after
level 5 it sends you back to skill level 1 and you have to start all over.

There are 5 secret codes, 1 of the 5 codes gives you lasers,
two options, shields and full missiles. The other 3 will sign your
death warrent. The 1st secret code is; up, up, down, down, left,
right, left, right, B, A, and start. All codes must be entered during
pause. The 2nd code is very simple, it will give you full speed and
sheilds. It is B five times and A five times (must be entered slowly),
but only use this as a last resort, it's very hard to not crash.
You can only use a secret only code once in a game, so use them wisely.

Here is one more tip, for each selection of the "S" power meter
your speed will increase (independent of secret code 2).

Please let me know how it goes.

474.4Looks like Konami to me.....LUDWIG::PHILLIPSMusic of the spheres.Wed Jan 02 1991 13:3820
I got Nemesis with my Game Boy this Christmas. I find it curious
that Ultra is listed as the software company, when it clearly has
origins in the Konami Gradius/Life Force series; some of the game
(power-ups), some of the characters (statues) and, heck, even some
of the music - all identical! Since I have lots of flight hours
on the NES "Life Force", I am naturally delighted with this game!

The first power-up "secret" in -1 is a killer! You can virtally
overwhelm your opposition, but you have to watch two things:

    1. Don't fly into the ground/ceiling - it's fatal!

    2. Your force field, alas, will wear out in time and leave you vulner-
able. You have to keep an eye on the field, and on the power-up
meter. If you time it right, you'll be able to call up a new force
field moments after the old one collapses.

    Good luck, Starfighter!

I got this last night. Graphics good, sound very good, playability very
    smooth.
Very close to arcade version and difficult enough to keep you
interested but not hard enough to make you give up!
Managed to get to the second stage so far, but I intend to keep on
trying. How may stages are there in all?

474.6Lots of choices to make ...LUDWIG::PHILLIPSMusic of the spheres.Sat Feb 09 1991 10:1326
    Re. .5

There are five levels in all. I didn't realize it at first, but you
can choose your starting level in the set-up screen! And to make it
even sweeter, you can use the super pre-game power up at whatever level
you choose to begin with. (Alas, you can only use it once per game...)
Still, it makes it easy to 'scope out the landscapes...

When I first got this game, there was a nagging difference between it
and "Life Force" that I couldn't pin down. What it was is the fact
    that:

o - In "Life Force" when your ship is destroyed, it is replaced on the
    spot with no interruption.

o - In "Nemesis" when your ship is destroyed, the screen blanks and you
are brought back to an arbitrary point in the level.

You could spend a lot of ships in "Nemesis" to simply get past one
    point.....

Other than that one minor gripe, I still think "Nemesis" is a winner!

P.S. Didja see that "R-Type" is coming to the Gameboy? Yaaaahooooo!!!!
474.7Tips ?SEGUR::VIGARMon Feb 11 1991 08:5542
So I'm now on to level three! (This, though involves setting REST to
99!). I agree with the previous reply that it's annoying being put
back to a certain point after being destroyed, but it does help to
build up the weaponary when this happens.

    Tactics?
First level - straightforward shoot-em up. It's a good opportunity to
build up your weapons. Still unsure whether it is better
to have lazers or to be able to shoot at 45 degrees.
At the volcano - go to the top left corner, and keep on
shooting and you should be okay.
On the big ship at the end - take your time and make sure
you get out of the way of the ship at the end!

Second level-Tough - especially without decent weapons. Main difficulty
    		 is
a/ the tightness of some of the passages - good to
have the 45 degree shots rather than lazers for this.
b/ the "sprouts" (?) that shoot out four / five
"babies". Try to hit the sprouts near the top and they
                 should blow.
c/ some blobs appear from no-where and home in on
position you are in when they are created. For this reason
it's best to keep slightly forward so you can reverse when
    		these annoying things appear.
d/ Just before the big ship at the end you get a
screen where loads of these blobs appear. The best thing to
do is keep moving and watch what's happening in the
    		direction you're moving.
e/ the last ship - brilliant graphics - looks like
the ship in Alien. Loads of dodging required. Tough.

Level 3 - The dreaded spitters! Aim for the mouth when it's open and
you should get rid of them. Tough manouvering required.

Unfortunately that's as far as I've got starting at stage one before
    I've been interrupted.

    Any tips to help out?

    Cheers
    Antony
