470.0. "Real Virtual Reality (RVR)" by DECSVC::CARBONE () Mon Jun 11 1990 14:06
Taken from Vogon News Service 11-June 1990
Virtual Reality - Game to be available by 1992 for less than $200.
{Continental[as in airlines] Profiles, Jun-90 P. 30}
John, Anthony and Chris Gentile invented the power glove that's
part of the Nintendo Entertainment System. Abrams/Gentile Entertainment
Inc. (AGE), in New York plans to make its own version of virtual
reality available at retail by 1992 - for less than $200. Called
RVR (for Real Virtual Reality), the system combines the glove with
a head-mounted display set, which includes two LCD monitors, wide
angle optics, and sophisticated head-tracking technology. Translation?
"Its like a big pair of sunglasses" says Chris. "With our prototype,
when you put on the glasses and the glove, you'll be sitting in
the cockpit of a racing car. When you lift your hand, you'll see
a computer image of your hand. You'll be able to reach out, grab
the steering wheel, and start driving. If you turn your head left,
you'll see out the left window. If you hit the sunroof switch, the
roof will open up. Then, when you look up, you'll see helicopters
attacking you."
Sounds interesting....wonder if we'll ever see it!!!
