434.0. "New Tennis game - Lendl & Everett" by TOOK::RASPUZZI (Michael Raspuzzi - LAT/VMS Engineering) Mon Mar 12 1990 13:58

I saw a new Tennis game in a Nintenod Store this weekend. It is called
"Lendl & Everett". From the description on the box, it sounded like you
could be either Ivan Lendl or Chris Everett in various tournaments (like
Wimbledon, US Open, Frech Open).

Anyone rented it or purchased it?

I just bought it. I believe ( from the little I've played it so
far) you can play either one of them. The other choice is to be
    a boy or girl.

If you pick the boy/girl then you go into a little tournament.

You can pick strengths at the beginning or as you go along, when
    you pick up bonus points.

The graphics are good, better than racket attack. So far the only
thing that I haven't been able to do is hit cross court shots.
Everything is kind of straight ahead ( with curves ). I hope
this is just my inexperience and not that it isn't programmed in.

The only other thing is the password. It assigns you one and the
instructions are confusing on it. I will find out this week, but
it looks like you have to copy down mucho letters and numbers.

If anyone else has played it, please let me know about cross-court
    shots.

I just rented it last night so I only have a couple hours experience. I did
manage to finally win one of my first round matchups 1-6,6-1,6-1 (after losing
several, usually 6-0,6-0). At this point I'd have to say that the game plays
very well.

The placement of the shots is determined by where your body is in relation to
the ball upon contact (as I'm sure you already know). I did manage to hit quite
a few cross court shots. I'd like to tell you "I meant to do that" but it was
more like "How'd I do that". It appears that if you're travelling in one
direction and hit the ball in the other as it lands in front of you, a cross
court shot will happen. I did pick the "boy" option an select different
strengths. I kept increasing the one for ball placement (can't remember which
one that is right now) so maybe that helped.

Any more hints to help me out? I have two more nights on my 3-night rental.

I own the this game and have finished it. It is best to start with
roughly 4-6 STR points, the rest being distributed to agility and 1
speed. After your first match add one more STR then add to agilty about
3-4 points. After this match add 3 skill and power up the rest of the
STR. After the Asmik Open your own your own. One other hint is to add
miracle power at the very end, with focus coming in at second to last.
Also have the first three rows filled before any others. About
cross-court shots. The game really doesn't allow them unless you have
alot of ball spin. Besides that its a really cool game.
