Just got this game yesterday, It's really a lot of fun. Although there is no
password feature, It's a lot of fun to watch and play.( you can get extra guys
by eating 5 mints). The blob is a great character. There is a lot of detail in
the game. For example, if you throw a jellybean at the blob, and he misses it,
he frowns, otherwise he's smiling all the time. You really need to think about
how to use him in each situation.

I picked this game up last Friday and I think it is super! It is
designed by David Crane who did Pitfall while working for Activision.
How far have you gotten thus far? Have you managed to collect all 22
treasures yet? I managed to get all of them and go to the planet
Blobolonia with one life left, but I got done in by the falling
cherry bombs. If you've gone past that, I'd appreciate a hint about
how you did it. In case I'm further along than you I'll be glad to
	give you hints if needed.
This game definitely places a premium on thinking over hand eye
coordination. Yes, there are a couple of tricky spots, but they
can be mastered with a little practice. Mapping is a must unless
	you have a super memory.
I think this game has the potential of becoming one of the more
popular ones for the NES. Hopefully it will catch on and there
will be more folks replying to this note in the future.

Getting past the cherry bombs is simple.
Hint:
Have you noticed that if you enter the first screen with cherry bombs,
then leave the screen, you still die when the cherry bombs hit the ground.
After you dispose the cherry bombs, you get popcorn.
Other things: We (members of my family) never found the grape jellybeans
mentioned in the instructions. You don't need them to finish the game.
Also, we never found a use for the honey jellybeans.

I think the grape jellybeans are the ones in the jar that you see
up on the shelf at the end of the game. I find it interesting that
you never used the honey jellybeans. How did you get down from the
ledges that you needed the trampoline to reach? I imagine you may
have used ketchup, but they only give you six of those. Next time
you play, try using the honey.
Did you discover how to "stop" the candy machine? You can still win
without stopping it, but it is kind of fun to find out how.
I agree that the game should be expanded. It seems that just when
you're getting good at it, the game is over. A fun game though
	nevertheless.

Is there a way to stop the cherrybombs other than blasting them with
the vitablaster? It's really easy to waste a half hour of play just
to get there and die in a few seconds of klutzoid firing...
 |
| 419.6 | Cherrybomb Strategy | AISG::ALIZIO |  | Tue Mar 13 1990 13:04 | 25 |
| |
	rere..5
You do need the vitablaster to eliminate the cherrybombs. The method
I use is to start firing the vitablaster upward at a 45 degree angle
at the far right-hand edge of the PREVIOUS screen. I then move quickly
to the middle of the cherrybomb screen, making sure that I have already
blasted the cherrybombs that fall in the middle! Then I turn left
and right, always aiming for whichever cherrybomb is LOWEST. With
practice you will get past this with relative ease. When I lose a
life there it is because I get too spastic firing left and right and
I end up sliding under a falling cherrybomb!
Do you have much trouble with the falling marshmallows? I usually
begin the game by rocketing to blobolonia. Then I do all but the
last marshmallow screen. You can't do the last one because directly
after it comes the cherrybombs, and you have no vitablaster yet. Then,
I go back to the subway and gather the treasures. If you happen to
lose a life doing the marshmallows you can just start over and you
have only wasted a minute or two versus a half hour.
If you need more help, just post another reply.

The tip given by Nintendo Power on the cherry bombs was to throw the
coconut with a running start and the cherries would explode harmlessly.

| 419.14 | The Truth About the Coconut | LILAC::HITCHCOCK |  | Mon Mar 26 1990 16:27 | 33 |
| | I finished this game over the weekend and mastered the use of the
coconut. It's *very* easy to get through all the mashmellow, cherry
bomb, and popcorn screens once you know how.
Major spoiler follows:
When you arrive on the rocket in Blobolonia, you're at the far left
screen, you can only go to the right. Go to the next screen (before
the marshmellows start) and turn Blob into a coconut. Step back to
the left edge of that screen, start running (with coconut in hand)
and at the half way point or a little later, throw (button A) the
coconut, having the boy stop *just* before he enters into the next
screen. You'll see the coconut roll and roll, through the
marshmellows and cherry bombs. If you really throw it hard, it can
end up in the first screen of the popcorn (that's as far as I got
it, anyway).
Then call Blob back. ALL the marshmellow and cherry bombs will have
disappeared. The criteria for disappearance is the screen *following*
the one the dangers are in must be reached for the danger to be
eliminated.
There problem is that (at least for marshmellows and cherry bombs)
it *only* works from the one screen (ie, second one over from the
far left). Also, if you do end up skidding into the marshmellow
screen, call Blob back and try it again, don't move ahead even
though *some* of the screens may have been cleared.
You can also use this trick to clear all the popcorn screens. Do the
above, but start in the screen immediately before the popcorn starts
(this is where the popcorn field in the background starts).
And you can use it to clear out the chomping teeth.

| 419.15 | Some Parting Thoughts on a Fun Game | LILAC::HITCHCOCK |  | Mon Mar 26 1990 16:37 | 21 |
| | Some additional thoughts:
- First off, I could've sworn I'd posted a note and received a
replied to this note. Was there a disk crash and file restore from
an earlier date? Anyway...
- Someone mentioned in a previous reply that the Blob's facial
expression is a frown when it misses the jellybean. Well, try this:
When the boy is running and comes to a ledge, let him skid off it!
He stands there for a few seconds and puts his hand on his forehead
before he drops. But even more hysterical is when you try to get
him back. He runs on thin air and, depending on how fast you are,
he'll make it back or fall. Definitely cartoon physics at work. Even
if you've finished the game you should go back and try this 'cause
it's really a stitch. (Doesn't work on all ledges, only the higher
ones.) Remember, he needs to *skid* off, not be running.
- I don't think it's a spoiler to that you definitely don't need all
the treasures to complete the game.

I now understand why the coconut trick didn't work for me. I was using
it on the screen immediately preceding the cherrybombs, and it had no

there are several ways to solve the problems. It just takes a bit of

If there still are not enough vitamins, make sure she is collecting a

It has been quite awhile since I played this game but I don't think you
have to do anything with the gingerbread men. As I recall, you keep
going to the right until you reach what appears to be a dead end. If

First, go into the subway and collect the treasure on the left.
Then, under the ledge where the treasure is(this is a ledge where it's
fun to skid off), feed Blobutt(my name for Blob)a punch, then whistle
after you fall through. You'll die, but on Blobolonia, you'll get your
life back. Feed Blobutt another punch, fall through, collect the
treasure, whistle for Blobutt, fall through again, collect the
treasure, whistle, fall through, collect, whistle, fall through,
collect, whistle and fall through again, then collect the treasure.
Lure Blobutt over to the ledge and feed it a strawberry.

After you cross the bridge, whistle, run to the left, and stand
under the ledge. Feed Blobutt a licorice, climb the ladder, whistle,
go right to the other ledge, feed Blobutt another licorice, climb,
whistle, then find the round depression a little to the left of the
ledge above you. Feed Blobutt a tangerine, collect the diamond, get
back on the trampoline, bounce up to the ledge, whistle, feed Blobutt a
honey, whistle when he's on the ledge, then go right 'til you see yet
another ledge. Use licorice, climb, whistle, move over 4 Blobutt
steps, feed it licorice, climb, whistle, feed licorice, climb, whistle,
feed licorice, climb, whistle, then collect the jellybeans on your
    left.

Lure Blobutt onto the edge of the ledge, then feed it strawberry,
run over the bridge, go as far right as you can, whistle, feed apple,
when manhole cover pops up, whistle, feed tangerine, bounce up,
whistle, carefully go down subway stairs, go back up, run, throw
    ketchup, go into health food store(you'll have 40 A, 30 B, 100 C), feed
Blobutt root beer, and go out into the wild, black yonder!

Here's a fun trick: Throw Blobutt a honey, then a ketchup, and
he'll be a brick wall! No known use for it, but fun to observe.

    Have fun,
