403.0. "BASEBALL (Game Boy)" by SPIKED::SWEENEY () Tue Jan 16 1990 13:05

Saw a request for this in another note, and thought I'd start a new topic.

Baseball on the Game Boy is limited in comparision to Bases Loaded or other
baseball games on computers or game machines. But this only makes sense given
the small compute/memory power of the Game Boy. Even with these limitations
it's my favorite game so far, and I've played Tetris, Mario, Alleyway, and
Motocross on Game Boy.

With Baseball you get two modes, Japan or USA. The only difference I've found
is the name and abilities of the players. In each mode, you can pick one of
two teams to play. Either the home or visiting team. Both are pretty equal
hitting and fielding, pitching seems to be the only difference. I find the
home pitchers in US mode to be the best. 112 mph Fast ball from one lefty!
Can you say Sidd Finch?

You view the game while pitching and batting from the same view point; from
behind home plate. You can move the pitcher left/right on the mound and then
can call curves or straight, and three different speeds. The batter moves
up/down, left/right in his box. Like other baseball games some pitchers do
better in some areas than others, and hitters hit like their batting average
indicates. Bunting, stealing and hit and runs can all be managed.

Fielding is a little difficult, I can never seem to get to those sharp
grounders. Plus anything down the line is rarely caught, and the computer
hits down both lines with abandon. Pop ups elsewhere are real easy however, as
the computer makes the putout for you time after time.

Now goods and bads.

Goods:

Graphics are great. Little screen break up in comparision to other
	games.

Though not as good as the "big" Nintendo versions, still a very passable
	enjoyable game.

Hitting home runs, hitting batters, and the end of the game scenes. All
	great fun.

Bads:

The computer hitting down the corners.

	Fielding feels a little sluggish.

Throwing the ball in from the outfield takes forever....

Like I've said earlier, it's my favorite game on the Game Boy. Of my
friends and family that have played mine, it is also the "Sports Fanatics"
favorite game. If you're into baseball and have a Game Boy, I'd go for it. I'd
rate it a solid 8.
