This should be quite the event as far as video games go.
It is being put on by "Nintendo" itself and not some fly by night
flea market operator. I'm not sure if there will be any games
or merchandise for sale at the event. It would be nice to see some
of the future games they have in store for us.
I will be trying to get tickets for that Saturday the 21'st
Anyone know where they will be selling the tickets for this
event???? Can we get them in advance??????

Hi,
The last time I called the 900 number for the Nintendo World
Championship for Boston was about a week ago.
They really didn't have too much more to say about it, they just
added some more places where the event will take place.
I will call that number again in March to see if the provide
ticket info, if not I will call the Trade Center to see if
they know anything new.
I'm glad someone else is interested in this event besides
me. It should be a good time for all Nintendo nuts.
I will post any new info as soon as I get some.
Where have all the Nintendo fans gone?
Have they all jumped ship for a 16 Bit machine????
Long live NES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

| Last I heard, the NES tourney coming to Boston will be an event
where the different age groups must excel in three games. Those being
were, if my memory serves me right, Mario Bros III, Rad Rider, and
finishing up with Tetris. I personally was hoping they would have
contests in some of the better sports games, like Blades of Steel,
Techmo Bowl, and Double Dribble. (My personal favorites)

402.5 | PREPARE YE!!! | WMOIS::MARSHALL | TRAK TO THE FUTURE | Thu Mar 15 1990 11:42 | 32 |
| I work a second job at a place called EXIHIBIT SUPPORT in Cinton and we
we're one of three companies chosen to work on the WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP
show. The piece we did was the POWER WALK which consisted of 64
"fridges" and 28 console units.
The "fridges" we're designed to look like video arcade games with an
additional telivision on top so that a person can play the games and
onlookers can watch what's happen without an obstructed view. These
will be set up all through the Power Walk so that Manufacturers can
display their games.
The consoles units look like a large television console but have three
sets in them instead of one and they stand about five feet off the
floor.
That makes 140 places where you can play the games in just the power
walk!
The layout for the entire show is suppose to take up the size of a
football field. One of the other companies that worked on this was FM
from my understanding they also set up the shows for the Rolling
Stones. It should prove to be quite spectacular and provide an excellent
chance to try new games and see what's coming in the future. With the
amount of money put into this, I could see NES making the World
Champinships a yearly event.
Keep an eye out for more news on it. NES was suppose to start in Dallas
(that's where we set it up), but i haven't seen anything in the news
about it. We were also told that it would definitely be coming to
Boston in April.

Patrick,
Do you know when/where tickets for this will be available?
Also, will the companies who produce Nintendo games have
thier games for sale at the event?
I'm surprised more people haven't responded to this note.
It should be quite a thrill for all Nintendo followers.
I'm looking forward to being there.

I have placed info in this file for the Nintendo World
Championship 3 times in the last 2 weeks but either I put it
someplace eles or someone is deleting my entries on this event.
I don't think that I could have made the same mistake 3 times in a
row when adding info about this event. Is someone deleting my
entries about this for some reason?????? Is there a way you can
mark this particular entry so it can't be deleted?
I'am trying to provide info for all who are interested in this event
and if this does disappear again I will not be updating it anymore
Thanks.
I went to the Centrum last Wed. to see Disney on ice and they
had a poster hanging on the wall of the Nintendo World
Championships They also had little red pieces of paper with
a brief discription on it along with the dates of the event.
Although it seems that it will take place at the Centrum
I only saw the 1 poster there. I think the event is still
in the making.
A few months back when I 1st called the Nintendo 900 number
they said it was in Boston,a week ago they say its at the Centrum
a bit confusing but from what I seen it looks like its at
the Centrum in Worcester from April 19-22
They also listed a Ticket Master phone number (617)931-2000
Good Vibrations and Tower Records.
If anyone calls please put info in this file.
Thanks
Wayne.

| re your entries being missing -
you probably didn't hear - the NINTENDO notefile was lost in a
disk failure, the file was restored from a backup on March 20th.
Doing a SET SEEN/BEFORE=20-MAR-1990 will help you fix unseen counts,
but replies between the 20th and the date the file was restored are
permanently gone.

This event will be held at the "Centrum" and not at the World Trade
Center as 1st reported in this note.
The Centrum is in Worcester, MA
I'm not sure if you can buy tickets at the door, you will have to
call and see. I don't see why not, thats where the box office is!
I got mine a week ago there, don't know if they sell them while
the event is going on. (I would think so)
It would be best to call 1st and see. Call the operator for the
number to the box office.

| re: .12,.13
I tried to call the Centrum about getting tickets at the door,
to save myself the Ticketmaster service charge and the potential
long wait in a line to buy a ticket, but after listening to the
recording about 10 times I gave up and bought my tickets at
Ticketmaster. I just bought a general admission ticket instead
of a competition one. An interesting thing I read in the paper
about the competition was about the points needed in the first
round in order to move on to the next round. I don't remember
the exact ages and points, but it was something like this :
Under 10 years old 125,000
10-18 years old 175,000
Over 18 years old 150,000
As you can see, if you're over 18, you're "Over the (Nintendo)
Hill"!
The first round of competition consists of 2 minutes of "coin
collecting" in Super Mario (50 coins minimum, I think), then
2 minutes of Rad Racer, then 2 minutes of Tetris. I've never
actually seen a Nintendo Whiz, Power Player, or whatever you
call them, in action, so it might be interesting to see how
totally wicked awesome these rad dudes (or dudettes) are. :-)

402.16 | Check Out This Totally Awesome Offer, Dude! | LILAC::HITCHCOCK | | Fri Apr 20 1990 21:16 | 18 |
| This is very last minute, but I have "obtained" 2 adult tickets
(valued at $12.50 each), 2 child admission tix ($9.50 value each)
and one Competition ticket admission ($4.00) which I'm *giving* away
if you call me either tonight (it's Friday) before midnight or
tomorrow *after* 9:00 am but before NOON. Of course, you have come
by to pick them up as well. I live in West Concord, Massachusetts.
I'd really prefer if you're bringing a child, so the child admission
tickets will get used. These tix are completely legit (I won them
yesterday at Child World by scoring the most points in Tetris in 3
minutes for the "18 and over" group; grand champion in my aged
group).
I'll post a reply if I give them away, but the only way to get them
is to call me at (508) 371-7544.
Hope someone reads this!

402.18 | Games/Manufacturers at the Power Walk | BRAT::SMITH | Never say never, I always say. | Mon Apr 23 1990 12:36 | 33 |
|
These are some of the Manufacturers and the Games they had on
display (and you could play them, of course) at the Power Walk :
Acclaim Double Dragon II, Ironsword
American Technos River City Ransom
Bandai Dragon Spirit, Dinowarz
Capcom Rescue Rangers, Willow
CSG Solstice
Culture Brain Baseball Simulator 1.000
Data East Al Uncer's Jr. Turbo Racing, Heavy
Barrel, Robocop
HAL Air Fortress, Adventures of Lolo II,
Rollerball
Hudson Soft Xexyz
Jaleco Astyanax, Bases Loaded II
Kemco/Seika Rescue: Embassy Mission, Rocket Ranger
Konami/Ultra Castlevania III, Super C
LJN The Punisher
Nintendo Final Fantasy, Super Spike V'Ball, and
SMB III, of course
SNK Crystalis. P.O.W.
Sunsoft Fester's Quest, Batman
Taito Wrath of the Black Mantra
Tecmo Tecmo World Wrestling, Ninja Gaiden II
An interesting thing was every 15 minutes or so, every screen
in the Power Walk would shutdown, and a voice over the P.A.
System would tell you (in so many words) to "move on". A good
idea to keep players from "hogging" the demos, I thought.

I just attended the Seattle Power Festival yesterday in the Kingdome.
It was great, especially the Power Walk. Here's a couple of other
games they had, which I particularly enjoyed. From what I read, these
are available "soon."
Capcom Adventures in the Magic Kingdom
??? Pinball Quest
I'll post new topics (or add to existing ones) to describe these games.
Re: .0
Total tally for the day:
parking 4.00
admission (1 adult) $9.50
admission (1 8 yr. old) 9.50
lunch 9.75
competition ticket 3.00 (1 only. No way was I gonna try!)
cotton candy 1.50 (1 only. My son insisted.)
souvenirs 17.00 (to assuage 3 yr. old sister who
didn't get to go)
souvenirs 24.00 (to assuage 8 yr. old brother who
didn't think it was fair for only
sister to get souvenirs)
TOTAL 78.25
I'm not complaining about the cost (much of it was clothes). Just
surveying the damage!
