369.1 | don't know if it is availble for NES | TOOK::RASPUZZI | Michael Raspuzzi - LAT/VMS Engineering | Tue Dec 12 1989 12:37 | 8 |
| The Afterburner that I know of is produced by Sega. I have not seen
this game in the form of a Nintendo cartridge but then again, I am not
very worldly :-).
Has anyone seen this game for Nintendo? If done well enough, it could
be as good as Top Gun.

369.3 | What's it like on Sega? | SPIKED::SWEENEY | | Wed Dec 13 1989 07:51 | 9 |
| Could someone who is not a Nintendo only freak like myself give a little
overview of the Sega version? Do you look out a cockpit view? Do you see the
plane from behind? Are there landing/takeoff sequences? Is it scripted, or
more free form like a flight simulator? (Scripted being like TopGun where you
fly for so many minutes or planes encountered before landing.)
thanks

Re: -.1
Hiro,
From your reading about the game in Japan, do you feel it's worth
me looking for the game over here, i.e; is it a good game?
thanks

369.10 | rented it for 2 days | TOOK::RASPUZZI | Michael Raspuzzi - LAT/VMS Engineering | Fri Jan 05 1990 08:35 | 25 |
| I had the luxury to rent Afterburner last night and I will have it tonight
too. I saw it in Bourque's Video in Leominster last night so I decided to
give it a go for a couple of days.
I have not seen the game in any store yet (I bet a Kay-Bee has some) so I can't
quote a price.
The game is remarkably similar to Top Gun. The only difference is your view
is from behind the plane (like the arcade version). The graphics were OK
and the controls were pretty touchy. You can do rolls (unlike Top Gun).
Also, you don't have to make carrier landings by yourself.
The instructions say there are 23 stages and you get extra ships at
5,000,000 and 10,000,000 points and that's about it for instructions.
The B button is used to fire missiles and the A button shoots your "vulcan
cannon". There is no counter to indicate how many missiles you have.
I haven't been doing too well yet. I have only made it to stage 5 and
my best point score is about 2,000,000.
I think this game would be better made for a 16 bit game system. I was not
highly impressed with the Nintendo version (it is made by Tengen). I do like
it a little better then Top Gun. On the 10 scale, I'd give it a 7.5.

369.11 | AFTERBURNER | POETS::SCHNARE | CHARLIE SCHNARE | Mon Jan 15 1990 07:14 | 110 |
| Om a scale of one to ten I would give it a 9+.
I have rented the game a Towsend Harbor video store for two nights and
can make it up to stage ten. It is similar to the arcade exept for the
graphicks which are a little off. But I do believe it has one of the
best graphicks for nintendo.Just to let ya know also at townsend video
harbor they sell other games as BATMAN-MARIO 3-VINDICATORS and more.
After burner gets godd after stage six. Yoe have to do dog fights until
nine then at nine youfly into a canyon which you ,dodge towers and
shoot vehicles such as tanks. There is different music per certain
styages and heres a code to let ya here em.
Hold a and b down after you die and the music test will flash up.
heres another spoiler
While you are flying hit start and a at the same time and you will get
a turbo boost.
