RE: new Nintendo buff
Gee Sandie, I had no idea...
I'm hooked also. I like Super Mario Bros I,
Castlevania and Metroid.
I've tried the following and wasn't too excited by them...
Rad Racer, Double Dribble, Solomon's Key
Anticipation, Milon's Secret Castle, Marble
Madness, Excitebike, and Duck Hunt.
I tend to like the adventure-type games. Zelda is probably
my favorite. Marble Madness would probably produce an ulcer.
Duck Hunt is too easy and the sports games tend not to hold
my interest very long.
If you haven't tried SMBI, I'd be happy to loan it to you in
exchange for Adventures of Link. Let me know.

| re: new Nintendo buff...
I'll add my two cents worth, for what it's worth.
I happen to be the sports buff because I tend to dislike
games that are monotonous. "Ok, Mario has to run so
far, then jump at the right time, then do this, then
do... oops! Got bitten, or tagged or whatever. Time
to go do it again, the same EXACT way." I prefer the
sports games because if it's two-player, at least there's
a chance for VARIETY! Well, I'll cut the bull. Here's
my top five:
Blades of Steel
Punchout "Mike Tyson's"
Techmo Bowl
Double-dribble (sorry -.2)
Baseball Stars
but wait, no, there's more! I also enjoy Tennis,
which can be one or two players. Golf is fun
if you like the game in general. Top Gun is ok
but it can tend to be monotonous at times. Double-
Dragon, it's pretty good...
Does that help?

Try Air Wolf is very interesting. The only difficult is how to

If you like sports Bases Loaded is a very good one, because you

334.10 | My five cents....(inflation) | MISFIT::GEMMEL | and now here's Mac and Tosh... | Thu Oct 19 1989 16:31 | 11 |
| Tetris - always different, play about 1-2hrs every night
Adventure Island - cute, straight forward, no end game though
Milon's Secret Cast - fun, took < a week to beat (lost power)
Metroid - Blast the Mother (Brain)!
L.T. Fighting Golf - only place where above par isn't good enough!
My wife and I are Tetris addicts. The real #2 games are the Link
adventures. We work most of the maze/puzzle games as a team and
videotape rough sections to see what went wrong.

| The best game overall, seems to be Mike Tyson. I really enjoyed
that particular game for hours on end. Second choice was Simons
Quest . I really liked the action and graphics in this one, and
it doesnt get boring. Give some of the other games a shot, by renting
them out from local video stores. I really dont like the mario brothers
games, and donkey kong 2 was a waste of money. ( i bought it from
a kid that hated it for 5.00) zelda 2 is a lot of fun also. Check
around, and talk with kids, they know everything about the good
ones, or the ones that waste time.

| The cover looks like the N.F.L symbol! The graphics are Excellent!
You can play AFC or NFC, you also can play interconfrence plus
the big one S.B.! There are penalties, fumble and pick offs!
There are about 15 play selections on offence and defence. The
game is an hour long. Just as the real game. There are also 6
quality performances to choose from. It shows how your QB ranks
special teams, defence, your running backs the whole shamo! Its
was design by a coach, not sure of his name but will find out tonight!
I guess he played for 20 years or so. I think his first name is
tom, but i'm not sure. This game is a must! It make the rest look
silly.

Also the game is a side-to-side game as techmo. It shows three
screens. The 40 yard, the 15 and thats on handoffs or back passes
then theres the Recieving screen. Say you throw the ball to your
reciever and its about to reach him, they show the up close screen.
And if you do get it! Which i'm not sure whos selling it, i rented
mine at the music forum. But if you do get it, DON'T PICK THE JITS!
They, well lets put it this way they're are 1-7 this year! And they
play the sameway.

Re: last few
I'm not as high on NFL Football (it's by LJN Toys BTW) as -.1 seems
to be. Granted it has good play selection and graphics (except for that
rinky-dink 15 yard screen), but it's very slow to play. By that I mean
that it take the system a long time from the time you put your play in
until the ball is snapped. Also, I expect once the game is over that I
will get statistics, but no such luck, nothing, nada, just the final
score. Also, keeping track of where your receivers are (the are indicated
by one of 4 arrow designations one for each direction on the controller)
is a real pain. Sometimes they go off the screen, so you just have to
guess which receiver you are throwing to.

334.37 | Bionic Commando | SMAUG::SPOONER | Don't dream it...Be it. | Thu Aug 09 1990 12:54 | 39 |
|
I feel compelled to add this game to this top ten list as it has
just made my own top ten list of games to play. The game is a
rather older one called Bionic Commando. A good review of the
game is in note 178.0, but here's my description:
The game involves a rescue mission of a fellow commando. You are
initially equipped with a gun and a bionic arm which allows you to
scale buildings and swing across treacherous areas. One big plus
of the game is the actual game play. One button is used to fire
the weapon you are holding and the other is used in conjunction
with the arrow pad to grab with the bionic arm in the indicated
direction. Along the way there are several puzzles to solve like
"How do I get over there?" or "Which door do I want to try
first?". In my opinion, the graphics are excellent, and the
background music varies as the scenes change so you don't feel
compelled to shut the sound off. There are also hints that you
must gather from various communication rooms.
Many of the features of the game that I enjoyed would seem to be
more of a minus to the game play. For example, the instructions
are terrible at explaining all aspects of the game. But this made
the game more interesting as you had to determine the purpose of
various items, thus the instruction manual wasn't a book of
spoilers. Another feature that many, including myself, would view
as a turnoff is that there is no password or "save current
position" capability. However, the process involved in getting
back to the point where you last were allows you to practice your
timing and doesn't take long at all. And because the game is fun
to play, I was glad there was no password feature as I enjoyed
completing those earlier levels.
All in all, I recommend at least renting this game to find out for
yourself, but avoid the initial frustrations due to the above
reasons. They make the game a little harder, but then again all
of the great games have their minor frustrations in a different
form.

334.39 | The Ace's top 5 | BSS::BENNING | | Sun Aug 19 1990 13:59 | 27 |
| I've encountered some good Nintendo games, but my favorite 5 games are
as follows:
#1: Shadowgate-Interesting game play, many ways to go about things.
#2: Golgo-13- Despite public opinion, it has good graphics, very
challenging.
#3: RoboCop- I am somewhat surprised that nobody really likes this
game. Very good graphics, somewhat easy, great ending.
#4: Pro Wrestling- Interesting moves(and lots of them), good graphics,
good challenge(you need to have a turbo controller to beat it), great
two-player simultaneous play.
#5: Xenophobe- easy to learn, no ending(though you stop racking up the
points after 999990), great two-player simultaneous play(though my
friend gets peeved when I steal his items), easy.
I love all of these games, but there are two absolute duds that even
the dog won't play them:
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles(I'm gonna take a lot of heat for this one)
Fester's Quest
The Ace
