323.1 | 2 systems for me | TIS::BENT | Bob Bent - ISWS Maynard Ma. | Fri Sep 15 1989 11:27 | 16 |
| Paula,
I've owned Nintendo for 3 years and just got the new Sega Genesis
system this week....As great as the Genesis is I will still keep
my Nintendo and the games I still enjoy playing on it (Zelda,
Ninja Gaiden, Tecmo Bowl, SMB.....)
I seem to bounce back and forth on games not needing to finish one
before I start another...I usually play a few time a week...The games
for the Genesis are right from the arcade and not on the Nintendo (ie:
Super Thunderblade, Altered Beast...) so having two systems will
work out fine for me..
Hope this helps

| I own a NES, SEGA and a Commodore home computer. I use all 3 on a
regular basis though the NES gets most of the use because of quality.
For an extended amount of time, I would play a game until I beat it but
now I tend to jump around and put notes down on where I am at in a
certain game. The SEGA system isn't bad in that they have games that
NES doesn't offer but you sacrifice the great selection and some of the
graphics. My home computer I mainly use to program my own games which
of course I can beat cuz I wrote them and know the tricks but the games
I have bought for it aren't bad.
Overall, a second system is a lot of money if you could buy more games
for the NES instead. I would continue to play different games and when
you start to get close to beating something, stick with it until you
do. For instance, I have owned my NES for well over 1 years and have
never completed the first quest on Zelda. I have reached level 9 in
the quest and have been playing only it for a couple of days. This is
working out well but notes must be written down so that when I go back
to play it again in who knows how long, I will remember what is going
on, etc.
Hope this answers your question.

| I've had Nintendo since day 1 of Zelda, Sega for about two years.
Have gone through about 40 Nintendo cartridges and about 10 Sega.
The craze has simmered down in this house but we still do about
1hr a day. The Sega has been unplugged for months.
I tend to get a new game and play it through to the end, though
lose interest on the pure shoot-em-ups and usually just stop playing
them. New, good adventure games tend to get played 8hrs a day.
Bought the Sega because there was alot of hoopla about the "better"
graphics, good 3-D, and much better gun. The graphics are not that
much better and the fad of 3-D and the gun wore off. In retrospect,
I wouldn't buy the Sega Master System again. BUT, I'll probably
buy the Genesis or counterpart eventually, I like new toys :-)>

Hi Paula,
I have 4 systems ,Nintendo(G.Boy,too),Sega(Gene.),NEC.
I don't think purchase for one system only.
I would like to play the best game.
It seems to waste much money for 4 systems, but I can choice from many games.
So,I don't waste and play better games.
In fact, same game(or same type game) sell for different systems.
ex, I think PC has better Final lap . (Nintendo,NEC(PC-Engine) )
OUT RUN,POWER DRIFT coming near future for few systems.
I think each systems have each good point and weak point, too.
I play 2hours in a day.
(not 1game,many games)

| In addition to the NES, I have an Atari ST and the Gameboy ( which
currently sits on the coffee table with Tetris inserted at all times ).
I've found that NES games tend to have consistent quality, while the
games for the ST ( which I *occasionally* use as a real computer ) tend
to have more standard deviation in terms of quality. There are some
games for the ST which you could not possibly imagine on either a NES
or one of those new fangled "16 bit" machines.
The gameboy is so cheap I couldn't resist.

| I have a nintendo and a amiga. I used to have a sega before I smashed
it with a hammer. My nintendo has been unhooked for a year. I have
not gotten a new game for the nintendo in 2 years. All I ever use
now is the amiga. The amiga is all you ever need.

I have 3 game systems. They are a Nintendo, 2 Intellivisions(sp?), and one
Apple 2 GS. I use the Nintendo every day. I use the Intellivision about once a
week. I use my 2GS every day too. When I play a video game, I play it for one
hour a sitting.

323.10 | Nintendo or Turbographics-16???? | BAGELS::MATSIS | | Wed May 30 1990 11:44 | 18 |
| Hi
I just bought the Nintendo system about 10 days ago and have been
hooked on the Super Mario Brother's that came with it.
It took me about 6 months to decide whether to get the Nintendo or the
Turbographics-16. The graphics on the TGX-16 look great. I decided
on the Nintendo only because I am afraid that the TGX-16 could
dissapear in the future, leaving me with a system and no games to buy.
At Christmas, I noticed that TGX-16 had only 8 game (at Child World).
Then in January, they had 16. Now 20. Does anyone know how many they
really have (or does Child World have all of them?). If anyone has
the TGX-16 and have played the Nintendo, how do they compare? I
bought the Nintendo after looking through a friends Magazine and
finding that they have over 300 games for the system. I'm still
trying to decide if I should keep it or return it for the TGX-16.
Thanks, Pam

323.11 | add Genesis to your choices | 57248::BLAISDELL | Insert remarkable phrase here | Wed May 30 1990 13:52 | 9 |
| Pam,
If your deciding on the 16 bit systems, you should consider the
Genesis system made by Sega. There is a whole notes conference
devoted to the 16 bit machines. Hit kp 7 or select to add to your
notebook. Otherwise add KBOV06::MEGA. General consensus is that
the Genesis is the better machine with more "playable" games.

| Thanks Rick. I started reading through the file but there are tons of
replys. One thing I was surprixed to find out about the TGX-16 is that
it isn't a true 16 bit machine. You need an option to get it to 16
bits. By the time that you are done with that machine, you pay about
$250 (not including the many options that you can buy). Nintendo for
$99 (action set with Super Mario Brothers, Duck Hunt, Gun) seems to be
a good buy. People in that conference seem to think that Nintendo will
dissapear. I hope not.
I heard that Nintendo may be comming out with a 16 bit adapter.
Anybody know if this is true or not? Seems like they will have to in
order to compete with the market.

I don't think that anybody there really thinks that Nintendo will
disappear. I think they think that technology will force them to
upgrade the Nintendo and possibly someday offer their new 16 bit
machine here.
According to an article in last months Game Pro mag, they are
going to be offering a 16 bit graphics option for the Nintendo
system. This would make its capabilities equal to the TGX-16
minus the CD player. No mention of price or when it will be
here though, at least I don't remember any dates. I would think
that this would keep Nintendo owners happy for a couple of years
until they release their 16 bit machine here.
Nec. had a good thing going with the TGX-16, but have blown it
by not releasing anything to support their CD rom player (only two
games for a $400 option). The Cd is awesome, but if they don't
do something fast they are in trouble. Still, people are buying
them. You never have seen anything like the CD in action...better
than arcade quality sound and game play!
