| Well it's funny you should say that! I to am stuck in the same
place. I have had Bayou Billy for about four days. They say the
whip, or gun is the best weapon to have. I can't seem to get
either. I can get by the Frog men, but I die after that. But
I think if we can get by the first stage, the rest of the game
will prove to be exciting. There are some hints in last months
issue of nintendo power. It's a review, but the hints didn't
work for me. Any help from an Nintendo Alligator trainer would
be helpful. If I get by I will pass it on.

302.2 | Alligator Pond Hint #1 | MAGIC1::BEAUDET | JUNK_YARD_DOG! DTN:297-6276 | Thu Jul 27 1989 13:19 | 16 |
| Just got off the phone with a Konami game counselor -
hint: when reaching the 2nd alligator pond, remain on the left
bank at the furtherst point from the pond - apparently the gators
can't reach you but you able to "kick" them...the conuselor implied
all 3 must be "elminated" before proceeding.
I sent the hint home to the wife/kido so I don't know how it works.
I was impressed with this game, but if that is how you kill the
gators instead of jumping into the pond to wrestle them with the
knife, then I'm dissappointed!
I'll spend some time with the game tonight (since my son wouldn't
let me near it last night) and write a game review tomorrow.

The Adventures of Bayou Billy
How far will you go for the girl of your Dreams?
Bayou Billy - raised by a family of gators, you've grown into a
legend. You're a regular swamp superhero, and all the southern
belles love your brute strength and Cajun charm. Of course, your
heart is reserved for only one belle!
Annabelle Bon Vivant - An ex Miss Louuisiana, Annabelle is a cross
between Scarlet O'Hara and Ellie May Clampett. She's the most
beautiful babe in the bayou, a three time cover girl for the glamour
magazine - Swamp Digest!
Bayou Billy is an adventure game where Billy must rescue Annabelle
from Gordon - the gangster king of Burbon Street. Gordon takes
her to his estate and places his thugs along the route to "slow
down" Billy.
There are 9 stages to this game - the first 3 take you through various
parts of the swamp, the next 2 through a car chase sequence, the
next two through the French Quarter and the entrance to Gordon's
estate. The last 2 are in Gordon's yard and inside Plantation Parlor.
In stage VII you have the option of using the standard controller
or using the Nintendo light phaser.
There are 4 weapons for billy to use: magnum pistol, ugly stick,
foot-long blade and whip. There are 7 pieces of survival gear that
enable you to extend your life, bullets, gasoline and destroy all
on-screen enemies.
Billy drives a jeep and must face attacking jeeps, smuggling planes
and helicopters. There are 21 different "thugs", including Gordon
that Billy must face.
The standard controller (or NES Advantage) performs different functions
for each of the 3 basic phases - 1)street & swamp fighting (aka
Double Dragon), 2) Car Drivin' (aka Rad Racer) & 3) Gun shootin'
(aka Gotcha).
You start the game with 3 lives. You obtain another life when reaching
20,000 points, and obtain another life every 30,000 points thereafter.
There is a continue feature that enables you to continue in the
stage you perished - but only to a maximum of 5 times.
Additional:
When powered on, the game begins at the game select screen. Your
choices are: Game A, Game B, Practice Mode, Game Sound Effects.
Game A - is the standard game using the light phaser in stage 7.
Game B - is the standard game using the controller in stage 7.
Pratice - allows you to pratice any of the stages
Sound Effects - allows you to scrol through the entire list of game
music and sound effects.
Summary:
This game is difficult. Unlike Super Mario, the action begins
immediately and Billy must face often multiple characters at once.
The characters will often attack in tandem and not one at a time.
There is no gradual build up. The idea of changing phases during
the chase is clever. The graphics are very good - strong 8 or low
9. Music is equally good sounding."?:
Oops, my sytem just "Hicupped" and I can't see what I'm typing...
Anyway, the game would be great for someone who wants a different
kind of challenge. It would be tough on a younger player - 6 to
8 yrs.

302.4 | Gator Killer | POBOX::BAYLESS | GBD IS ALIVE | Wed Aug 02 1989 19:09 | 13 |
| In refence to other notes, the easiest way to kill the gators is
to stay back as far as possible from the pond, and kick them. It
helps if you have an Advantage controller but I'm still sure about
ten kicks or so will kill them. I am having problems at the end
of the third stage killing this big dude, it takes so long to get
there and he just wipes you out.
Another hint in stage one you can get the knife and club and
bulletproof jacket by jump-kicking your opponents (press A@B).
Somebody let me know when they get to the end of the third stage.

302.5 | Big Guy, no Problem !! | MAMIE::CHATTERJEE | | Mon Aug 28 1989 11:06 | 9 |
| I found a way to kill the big guy at the end of stage 3, All you
have to do is to take him to the bottom left hand corner and keep
kicking him, i've got to the beginning of Stage 5, and that has
been the hardest so far, also if you finish the practice, it gives
you extra thing like lifes, the street fighting gives you a meatball,
when your life runs out, it gives you more, the action driving gives
you an extra guy, and the shooting give you an extra round of bullets,
which you can only use in Stages like Stage 2.

| Has anyone noticed any graphics problems in the first few scenes?
Parts of the men seem to disappear in one particular spot on the screen
of the game I rented.

>>> It would be tough on a younger player - 6 to 8 yrs.
Then I don't stand a chance! :-)
My son and I are having a heck of a time getting started in this game.
Has anyone found any tips on how to go about winning the fights in the
first stage more consistently? We're getting beaten to a pulp. Any help
would be appreciated.
Thanks,
Doug
