260.0. "SKATE or DIE!" by ASABET::CUNNIFF () Fri Apr 21 1989 12:13

I rented "Skate or Die" yesterday...

It's a Skateboard game, in which there are various types of
    competition.

You start at the Skate Shop, where you Sign In if you want to compete.
(I never successfully signed in - the instructions were not very
user-friendly here.) It isn't necessary to sign in to practice at
any of the different stages/ramps, but if you want to compete
(to log high scores (not saved during power-off) during each
    stage/ramp)

    Options were:

     - Freestyle - skateboard on a half-tube | | between the
two sides and do tricks at the top of each \___/ side.
I had the most fun here - kicks, spins, slides, aeriels, hand-turns.

     - High Jump - same type of tube - object was to jump as high as
possible on the right side of the tube.

     - Jam - Pick "Regular Foot" or "Goofy Foot" (either left arrow
makes you go to the left side of the screen, or it turns you left-
"Goofy Foot" makes more sense, but they offered the option), then
ride down an alley with another (computer-generated) punk skateboarder
who you try to kick/cut off and race to the bottom of the alley
doing the most tricks/kicks during the way to score points.

     - Race - Go down a race course - the control didn't "feel" very
positive, but it was challenging, albeit frustrating.

     - Joust - Using a baton, fight the computer-generated opponent
    in an empty pool -

The competition combines scores for all these events into one master
score and ranks you (I imagine) - I didn't sign in, so couldn't
    compete.

The graphics were good, the soundtrack was great - it was almost
as good as "Top Gun"'s soundtrack - good music, and lots of it!

All in all, worth a rental, maybe even a purchase if you like it.

Radical and Tubular - Skate or Die!
