I have seen Operation wolf in Nintendo power and it can be played with
the ZAPPER or the controller. I think the ZAPPER light gun would be
better. My friend has rented it and has said it is not as hard as the
arcades but it stinks using the controller.
Hope this helps

251.5 | I'd rate it a six or a seven | SPIKED::SWEENEY | | Mon Jun 19 1989 14:19 | 32 |
| I rented Operation Wolf this weekend and liked it enought to make it my monthly
cartridge. (Our budget allows me one cartridge a month otherwise bankruptcy
court in no time flat 8^).
The game is different than the arcade. For one you don't have guys falling from
the sky in parachutes. You also don't have a gun on a swivel mounted inches
from your screen. So the control aspects are different.
There's a lot of similarities to the arcade game. The graphics are almost up
to par, and you have the six scenes to clear out to save the hostages from
certain doom. The bad guys are shooting like crazy and you're trying to save
your skin.
The action in this is different than most other games. In it you move a cross
hair on the screen either by the controller or via the gun. When the target
is in the cross hairs, you fire your guns. It's a different approach than I've
seen in other games. It's similar to lining up a putt in golf but you have a
lot more control.
Choice of controlers is the advantage. I found the gun to be the least liked of
the three. It's slow on the trigger, hard to point, and the grenade button is
the b button on the other controler while pulling the trigger. I never quite
got the hang of this. The regular control was a little hard to manuever the
trigger, and in addition you're limited to single shot unless you shoot a
symbol when it pops on the screen. The advantage I found easier to move, and
also supplies rapid fire. A must in some of the screens when you get a ton of
bad guys shooting at you.
All in all a good, not great game. Lot's of action, but not much thinking. I'd
strongly reccomend renting this one before buying.
