| Yo, Hawk....you know better than to ask that question.
FWIW, the Jan/Feb issue of Nintendo Power (thanks Steve) has reviews
on three new football games. TECMO BOWL, JOHN ELWAY'S QB, NFL FOOTBALL.
I haven't read the review yet. Probably will at lunch time today.

After you read the review, can you summarize what they think of
each game?
Thanks,

| OK, here's my review of the review....
John Elway QB - Review says nice graphics, no half time show, locker
room scene. 14 NFL teams to choose from. You can select an alternate
reciever, there is a 30 second clock. The plays appear on the screen,
diagrammed, so they are easy to pick from. There are 9 offensive
and 6 defensive formations. The graphics look good...
However, you can't break tackles. It's also the only one of the
three that has a verticle field instead of horizontal.
NFL Football - This game has 36 formations to choose from but the
review says it's slow playing, long delays, long halftime show.
The thing I liked least about this one was the fact that in the
one player version, you don't choose the defense. That stinks.
This game got the shortest review and was also the least liked of
the three. The author says that if you like LJN's MLB, you'll like
this game.
TECMO BOWL - Best graphics of the three. The author liked it the
best. Fast playing, all teams have true-to-life characteristics...
(the example they use is Miami and Denver are passing teams while
SF uses the run and the pass). It's a password game so you can play
an entire season. The negative is that there are only 4 offensive
plays to choose from (2 run, 1 pass, 1 kick). You DO get to choose
a defense. You control one player on offense and one on defense.
You can intercept the ball. The kicking meter measures the power
of you kick.
What I really liked is the fact that you can switch the player you
control with the A button. It also makes diving tackles. It also
has a real half time show....big deal
Looks to me like TECMO is the best.

| Thank you for the reviews. If I see any of these in the stores,
I will post prices for the benefit for all.

| It helps to look at the magazine if only to see the graphics for
each game.
For some reason, Nintendo really did a poor review of NFL Football.
I'm not sure why. But it looks like the worst of the three, per
the review.

any of the three, but no luck yet.. I'm curious, has anybody seen
any of these football games yet?

203.8 | What a waste! | SAHQ::SCHULTZ | Orcas & Dolphins: Humans of the Sea | Tue Apr 18 1989 19:06 | 12 |
| I have tried this game as well as TECMO BOWL. This game in my opinion
is the pits. My first game I beat the computer team 63-0. All
that you need to do is throw the bomb on offense and blitz on defense.
It is clearly inferior that TECMO's product. What a waste! I really
liked this game in the arcade but on the NES it is slow, much too
easy to beat, and has poorer graphics. Clearly a rush job, with
little effort for a real quality rendition of the arcade version.
On a scale of 1-10, I give it a 2.

| That's too bad, you'd think that with the amount of time it's taken
to release a football product, the least they could do is make a
good one.
I'll stick with TECMO.
Thanks for the review....

203.10 | Is this it?? | DEMING::TOPEL | | Mon May 08 1989 14:06 | 19 |
| From the neg votes, it appears I "bought" the wrong way..........
Regardless - does anyone know if these are standard:
1) If you're playing it one on one, that "it" will not punt under
any conditions, (example: it is forth down and "it" has 42
to go (or any number of yards) and it will go for it - not
punt). Is this the only game that goes for it on it's own
five yard line???????
2) On offense, if "normal" mode is picked, if on a pass play,
who ever catches it takes off at a speed ten times that of
anyone else - seems to be confined to the "normal" mode.
thanks

RE .10 The only other team that might go for it from thier on five
is the New England Patriots.
