I've made it to 6-1 so far. Get's a little nutty by that time.

168.15 | CONTINUE for Adventure Island! | DNEAST::DUMAIS_BOB | | Mon Feb 20 1989 09:20 | 18 |
|
I couldn't stand it anymore! I called Hudson to find out the
continue sequence. I really don't think that this is a spoiler because of the
difficulty of this game.
In Area 1 Round 1 there is a Hudson bee you must get to enable the
continue sequence. This bee is in an egg and it is on the edge of the cliff
when you can see the G near the end of the round. There is a strawberry there
also. Just stand near the edge and jump.
I've made it to Area 6 Round 1. Need a weapon to continue
from there. I've also found an egg that had a little Higgins face on
it and when I got it I got an extra life. I believe that this has
something to do with how many rings you get. Also, if you get 50,000
points you get an extra Higgins.
Good Luck,
Bob

Hi Ann and Wayne,
There is an Eggplant egg in the ice land that you mentioned. Have
you noticed that there is an egg just before you get to the one which is the
Eggplant egg? There are others through the game. I can't remember exactly
where they are but the one which sticks out in my mind now is the one at the
beginning of 6-1. It's a tough one to get by without breaking.
Have either of you figured out the use of the Key? I stumbled across
it by accident when I wasn't paying much attention to the play of the game.
Let me know if you get past 6-1. Got to try again when I get a chance.

168.19 | < THE KEY...> | SONATA::LEONARD | | Thu Feb 23 1989 16:27 | 14 |
| Bob,
I think the key allows you to go to what we call "Free Fruit Land".
After you get the key in the first iceland you jump on a girder;
stay on the girder and it takes you up to get lots of fruit and
extra points. We have found four of these secret rooms so far
(we've only gotten to level 3-4 so far).
Have you noticed that if you get to level 1-4 with one man that
you get an extra (atta-boy) man from an egg?
Enjoy!

re: 19
Ann I must have missed a lot more than I thought.
You say there is a key to be found in the ice cave segment
that is used to enter a room with lots of fruit/points ????
I have not found this key yet nor have I found any other rooms
with fruit in them ....... care to help me out a little????
(Possible spoiler to follow so I'lll try a form feed)
(can't get form feed to work....it is control L for form feed?)
Is the key for the rooms in the ice cave the egg before the
eggplant,mentioned in the previous notes????
If you jump over the eggplant egg another egg appears
just before it,is this the egg with a key inside???
Also where do we find those other rooms you were talking
about with the fuit/points????
I haven't played in a while,and I've only got up to the 2nd
or 3rd level ????? I can't remember it been awhile.
I will definatley start playing it more now that I have
more noters to enjoy the game with.
see ya' soon

168.22 | KEY to bonus rooms! | DNEAST::DUMAIS_BOB | | Fri Feb 24 1989 09:06 | 33 |
| RE: -1 & -2
Yes I have gone to the BONUS rooms where you need to jump on spring
boards and collect fruit. These fruit are worth 500 points each. I think they
fill you life up with energy also.
****** Possible mild spoilers *******
The first one that I noticed is in the Ice
land just before you get to the number 3 of that round. There is a platform
with an apple just above. If you don't get the key, the platform falls and
its difficult to jump to the other side and survive. If you do get the key,
the platform quickly rises. The first time I experienced this I thought that
I would be pushed from the platform and die when it rose so I got off as soon
as it started going up. That's why I mentioned that I found what the key did
by mistake. I wasn't paying attention once and didn't jump off the platform
when it rose quickly. I found myself in this bonus room and knew what the key
was for since then. You will most always find a platform which rises to the
bonus room after finding one of these keys. So be on the lookout for the key!
My son is on school vacation this week and has been playing this game
off and on. The weather has been lousy for there time off. He told me that
he made it to level 8-1 yesterday! He won't offer anymore information other
than that he has made it that far. I don't think I want any from him anyway.
I thought at first that this game would be impossible to beat. I have some
hope now but I know that it will not be easy.
Hope this helps all who are playing this game.
Bob
BTW. Wayne, if you are editing the fill in the note conference do a CTRL V
and then a CTRL L to put in a form feed

I found the key and the bonus room in the ice room/area.
I have got as far as 6-1 and its real tough!
I will try to form feed the next paragraph, it may contain spoilers
I need help getting past 6-1
It seems that every time I jump off the cliff's edge to the
island to begin the game I hit the egg thats there and release
the eggplant inside.
I can make it to the very edge of ths egg 1 out of 3 times
but can only reach 6-2 then die because I loose 1 life to that
egg and loose another to get to 6-2 and loose my last life
getting thru 6-2. Is there a way to aviod this egg on 6-1
every time so I can have 3 lives to work with to get pass 6-2?
Thanks
Wayne.

| Hi Wayne,
Although I have not made it past 6-1, I can get past the eggplant
egg most every time.
POSSIBLE MILD SPOILER
The trick is to double jump. You need to use the B
button on the initial jump but not on the second jump. The key to making it is
in your timing. On the second jump you also need to use the right arrow on the
control pad so you won't hit the egg. Give it a try and let me know how you
make out.

168.25 | The game we love to hate | MISFIT::GEMMEL | and now here's Mac and Tosh... | Wed Apr 26 1989 12:10 | 49 |
| Does anybody still play Adventure Island??
We are up to 8-2 (haven't turned off the unit for about 3 months
now but have gotten *thrown* back to the beginning about 10 times!)
and we are stuck trying to get by the drop-away cloud with the
incomming fish and bouncing red octapus! I got by it once (beats
the h*ll out of me how I did it!) and was killed in section 3 or
4 on my last Higgins. Has anybody figured out how to consistantly
get by this (explatives deleted) fish???
This is one addicting game! The family loves watching while my
wife (she seems to play the most) and I try to get through the game.
My son used to play and has given up since level 5 (he still arm
chair quarterbacks each screen). We are using the Advantage stick
and the "SLOW" feature so we have a fighting chance to work our
way through each scene.
For those who haven't seen this test of skill :
Higgins (the main character) is on an island (possibly to save his
girl friend, a popular quest in these games) and has to navigate
his way through a number of nasties and obsticles while picking
up "food" to keep up his strength. The nasties include (in our
terms, not character names):
spiders racoons bats octapus
flying fish pigs snails snakes
frogs spinning "heads" birds
and each level has a "boss" to knock off
Obsticles include:
rolling rocks rocks floating platforms and clouds
fall-away platforms/clouds icey sections falling icicles
fires
There are numerous eggs which may be milk, weapons, or a nasty eggplant
(Higgins' most unfavorite food). There are also numerous hidden
sections which give you a chance to pick up points and energy.
You start each session with three Higgins and get a free Higgins
with each 50,000 points. There are eight levels, each having 4
areas, each having 4 sections. Each area has a trophy for extra
points based on your remaining energy at the end of the 4th section.
Great game, we loved Zelda and Link. This is sort of like SMB I.

| Does anyone know if there is a way to make it through 7-4 without
any weapons??? It seems that if you leave 7-3 without a weapon or
if you have a weapon and get killed in 7-4 before reaching the end
there is no way to get through those hanging spiders. You know the
ones that are after the spiders that go up one after the other and
then comes the 4 groups of two. The last group of two is totally
impossible to get by. It's like the one going up and down doesn't go
high enough to be able to jump through without losing a Higgins in the
process. Seems like I've been stuck in 7-4 forever!!!!!!!
Any spoilers welcomed!!!!!!

168.37 | Coyote's Warp Harmonica??? | HESIRI::CERLING | Infinitely Interesting | Wed Feb 13 1991 17:41 | 19 |
| Help!
Something really weird happened to me while I was playing this game. I
wasn't trying to beat it, I was just running at high speed without
stopping. I was some where near the end of 1-4. You know those coyote
things that run at your back after you pass a red flower? Well, I was
just speeding along, and this coyote starts running behind me. I was in
a big, level clearing. I ran along without stopping, and when the
coyote got close, I jumped into the air. It sped under me. When I
landed, Ishot it twice in the back and killed it. Then, suddenly, this
harmonica thing is in front of me. I'm not sure it was a harmonica, but
it was a little brown box with black squares across it, so that's what
I think it is. Since I was running nonstop, I grabbed it before I got a
good look at it.
Does any body know what on earth that thing was? If you do, TELL ME!!!
I really want to know. My theory is that it lets you warp somehow, but
how to do it is a mystery to me. Please post any questions/comments/
statements in this note. Thanks in advance for any help!!

| (A very frustrating game but addictive!)
As far as the question of the raccoon or whatever comes running at you,
it is not a warp zone of any kind. It simply gives you alot of points.
I have been playing this game for what seems like forever and I still
have not been able to get past world 6. There are no warp zones in
this game. I do have a question, in world 6.3 where in the world do
you get food to continue on to 6.4? I always seem to run out and if I
get lucky enough to spot an egg, it's an eggplant! In fact I think
almost all the eggs in that level are eggplants! I am probably the
only fool out here still playing this game while all the other smarter
people have already thrown theirs across the room! I would really
appreciate some pointers on level 6 if anyone had the paitence enough
to get past there!
Thanks again..... Barb
