| I have Dr. Chaos. It may be good, but my son and I are stuck at
the start. You need an "Ultraspace Sensor" in order to enter any
warp zone. NES game line said that it was past the 4th door on
the first floor, kill monster, then re-enter room. That did not
work. Has anybody found how to get the Ultraspace Sensor?
|
| After not finding the "Ultraspace sensor", I phoned the Nintendo
help line and they were no help. The guy gave us a confused answer
that didn't help. Next I called the FCI helpline (312 968-0425)
and got the answer.
Spoiler
Go in the third door on the first floor, turn left and go thru the
next door, turn right (North), open the window above the sofa, go
in the window, go to the end of passage, knife the guy there five
times and the Ultraspace Sensor will appear.

| This note and the directions in .2 made me look at Dr. Chaos again,
a game I bought and initially rejected as being boring and poorly
designed. Having acquired the Ultraspace sensor, though, it's actually
a pretty good game. I'm getting used to finding ammo and juice,
then going into the warp zones.
The main problem I'm having is I can't find any of the special
equipment Dr. Chaos left for his brother, in particular the boots
and air helmet, both of which seem to be required to go into even
the most beginning warp zones. But they don't seem to be in the
house either! Has onyone else who's tried this game found where
these things are located?
Thanks-

| Judging by the underwhelming response to my request in .4, I assume
that this game is not very popular. It's pretty good, though, now that
I'm getting into it. Besides the warp box, I have the helmet, boots,
2 life bags, and 3 or 4 pieces of the laser gun. I've never been a
"mapper", so I only have a general idea where I found them.
I also found that, contrary to what it says in the instructions, you
*can* save the game and keep all of your ammo.
|
| Actually, I like this game also, but was put off for a long time
by the initial poor graphics...much better in the warp zones. I'm
willing to get back into it, but I need some help though. I've
been very frustrated that I can locate the boots, which are for
jumping real high, as I recall. And you can't make any progress
without them, even initially (I at least have the warp box, thanks
to one of the earlier notes).
Anyway, if you can at least help on finding the boots and describe
a little more about the game saving technique you found, maybe we
can turn the rest of this conference onto it! (*Now* I see it sold
everywhere.)

| The game saving technique is actually described in the instruction
booklet under something like "Discontinuing a Game". They neglect to
mention that your ammo remains. Not only that, but when you continue
it again, all the ammo you've collected in all the rooms comes back!
You can really build all levels up to the max by doing it a few times.
Here's how: while either outside the building or in a warp zone, press
START to pause the game, then press either A or B and you will receive
a password. Turn the game off; when you come back and enter the
password, you'll be right where you paused, ammo and all. Or, after
noting the password (of course), press A (game returns), then START
again to unpause, and you can go on with the game, but if you die you
can RESET, enter the password, and pick up again at that point. It's
best, after you've entered a promising warp zone, to fill up (if
necessary), reenter the warp, then take a password immediately. This
way if you don't make it, you can keep picking up at that point until
you do.
Mild spoiler question:
Do you have the helmet already? You need that before the boots; when
you swim with the helmet on, you can jump over underwater barriers that
you couldn't before, even without the boots. Once I had the helmet, it
didn't take me long to get the boots.
Spoiler for helmet (I think):
As I recall (I'm pretty sure this is right) this is how to get to the
warp zone with the helmet: First, fill up. I had one extra life bag
when I did it, and needed it. Go up the stairs to the 2nd floor, then
enter the leftmost door. HIT around on all 4 walls until you find a
hole that opens up (sorry, but I'm not sure which room has the hole).
GO through the hole. One of the windows or doors in one of the 4 rooms
you'll now be in has the warp with the helmet at the end (again, I'm
not sure which). You'll know it's the right one if you see a lot of
stairs around...a little ways down to the right there's a set of
staircases that look like they go off the screen to the top - they
don't really go anywhere, but you'll need to walk across them. Also,
make sure you kill the boss monster at the end of every warp, even
though you usually don't have to to get the treasure. When you kill
it, a piece of the gun drops from above.
Hope this helps,
-- Paul
