125.0. "TIGER-HELI" by SPUD::GAYF () Wed Aug 31 1988 12:15

    I have been playing TIGER-HELI for a couple of weeks now and have
    found that this game appears to loop around to a previously seen
    set of screens. Has anyone else found this to be so as well? It
    seems that the game has no end, no objective, but to stay alive
    for as long as possible. If this is so, then the game has fallen
    short of being a good quality piece of software.

    By the way, during my play, I found that when you are blown out
    of the sky for the last time, if you hold down the A and B keys
    while the screen blanks out you start over from where you last
    bit the bullet.. With a zero score of course, but with 2 lives
    and full bombs. This is how I managed to see the game start
    looping the screens on me.

125.1I play Tiger-Heli too!AKOV13::DUPLAKTue Sep 06 1988 16:2415

    Wow...finally a Tiger-Heli note!  I've had it since xmas, and I've
    not gotten far enough to have my screens loop. I've only gotten
    as far as landing on the first three helipads (I assume there is
    a fourth or fifth). So I don't know whether the looping is normal
    or a defect in your game.....

    Thanks for the A/B button hint on starting over on the screen you
    died on, I didn't know that. Got any other hints? I stopped playing
    Tiger-heli for awhile (I play a lot of gradius & castlevania now
    while I wait for Link II), since I don't seem to get very far &
    end up frustrated....

125.2It does loop!SPUD::GAYFWed Sep 07 1988 12:2724
    I called Nintendo and asked them about this looping effect and they
    confirmed what I feared, I does in fact loop forever.. There is
    NO end to this game. Its strickly who can aquire the most points.
    If I had known this, I never would have bought the game. I like
    games that have a goal (ending.) and not just play forever. Seems
    that enough of those endless games were created for the Atari and
    Colecovision. Its refreshing to see Nintendo games that have endings
    to them. I guess I will just have to watch this notes file and make
    more inquiries to Nintendo before I make further purchases.

    BTW: While talking with Nintendo folks I found that SMB II is due
    out in October.. Can't wait for that. Especially after that great
    review in Nintendo Power.

    As for additional hints, I guess the only thing I can suggest is
    that you get an ADVANTAGE joystick controller (if you don't have
    one already.) Really makes not only this game but all the rest a
    lot more fun. Of course it works as a disadvantage when you visit
    your local arcade, since you get used to the turbo (rapid fire)
    effect very quickly, and playing the same game without rapid fire
    at the arcade can be a REAL challenge.

    Frank.

125.3ADVANTAGE? Not Quite!AKOV13::DUPLAKWed Sep 07 1988 13:3315

    I have an Advantage controller, but it I found it to be no "Advantage"
    with Tiger-Heli. The slow-motion doesn't work well at all and the
    use of the turbo button doesn't really help either. I can get a
    faster rate of fire by whacking the button with my finger, though
    I'll admit it wears my fingers out quicker!

    Sorry to hear the loop is intentional. I share you sentiments about
    having a goal in the game. Looks like Tiger-heli is going to rot
    on my shelf.......Well...back to Gradius!

    			Where is Link when we need him?

125.4Oh Well..SPUD::GAYFWed Sep 07 1988 15:097
    I found that by adjusting the turbo's firing rate to about the 1
    'o clock position, I can get a faster rapid fire than by "rapid
    finger." But to each his own.. Never tried slow motion on TIGER-HELI
    but use it a lot on SECTION-Z..

	Frank,

	The reason slow motion sucks with the ADVANTAGE joystick is
	because of the way Nintendo achieves the effect. Most games
	come with the ability to be paused, usually by hitting the
	START button during play. SLOW emulates hitting the START
	button at some predefined rate, pausing and unpausing the
	game. This really works well with some games; however, a
	majority of games do things which make SLOW motion undesirable.
	For instance, SLOW has a really terrible effect with Super
	Mario Brothers 2, which displays a difference screen with
	PAUSE in big letters in the middle of the screen.

125.6A new hintIDAHO::HOLTMon Jan 30 1989 16:476

    	I should have read this note before I bought the game, I like
    games with an ending. But for those who play it to pass the time
    away, the building at the begining that seems indestructible isn't.
    If you continue to shoot it at close range, you get a ten thousand
    point bonus.

    do you ever get to go underground in this game or is it all the same
    battlefield loop of screens????????
