114.0. "Update on SMB II, Zelda II & Newsletter" by PEACHS::CRAWFORD () Mon Aug 08 1988 13:49

I just got off the phone with the games people at Nintendo. They
told me that the new newsletter would be going out the end of August.
Also that "Zelda II - The Adventures of Link" will not be out until
January 89. The reason is still the shortage of chips. Super Mario
Bros. II will be out in the September-October 88 time frame. The
delay here is also the shortage of chips.

Looks like we will see a slowdown of new games until this chip shortage
is solved. BTW, in case you hadn't heard or read the last newsletter,
it will now cost you $15 a year to get the newsletter. They say
that it will be bigger and contain much more information. It will
still come out every two months. If you join before 30 September
you will get the first issue free followed by your years subscription.
There are some other bennies like a poster with new games info and
10% off any merchandise you purchase from them.

Lets hope this is the last delay we'll experience on these games.
These games are almost a year late coming out. The waiting sure
is hard and frustrating. Come on Mario, Luigi and Link, give your
company a speed boost and have them get your games on the market.

    Wistfully waiting. (sigh)

opponent, or in a number of other fixes. This is the place to get
your questions answered by the pros!"

A cartoon called "Howard & Nestor".

A column called Classified Information. This is where they tell
you how to start various games at other than the start type info.
    This issue contains info on:

How to play Ice Hockey without a Goalie, and how to put the
puck into never stop or slow down mode.

Some stuff on selecting the course for Rad Racer. Also, something
about the final scene having a surprise of its own.

    	Unlimited energy in Ring King.

Discovering two secret characters in Ninja Kid.

Getting triple shot, super shooter, and 300,000 points and four
    	extra ships in Zanac.

An article on Double Dragon, Gauntlet, Contra, Squeel [sic] of Fortune,
    and Jeopardy.

A section called Video Shorts (within the Now Playing Section) with
the following introduction: "The `Now Playing' section of Nintendo
Power features every single new-release video game now available
or coming by the next issue for you NES. You've been reading our
in-depth reviews of Double Dragon, Contra, Gauntlet, Wheel of Fortune
and Jeopardy. Now you can look forward to more great games in the
`Video Shorts' section of the magazine. Here you can take a peek
at a long list of titles chosen for challenge, fun and excitement
by our Nintendo Power magazine editor. These games are the hottest
out there. You'll see a lot of your favorite arcade video games
in the reviews as well as other hot favorites inclulding spy, fantasy
    and science fiction games."

And a bunch of other random stuff. I'm getting tired of typing
all this in. Someone else can add what I've missed.

One more thing. In the Pak Watch section: "Zelda II - The Adventure
of Link -- The latest word on Zelda II is that it will definitely
be available in stores by October. Zelda is waiting for you to
awaken her from the sleeping spell that has been cast upon her.
`Hang on Zelda, it won't be long now. Your nightmare will soon
    be over!' -- Link"

went through the entire game....but ran out of lives facing that alien.

I have a small request from all you who received this mag. We are all
experienced enough to know a lot of stuff about a lot of games. We
should fill out that little questionnairre card and request reviews on
those games giving us trouble...I for one will ask for a review on
    Gradius...anyone else?

The other day I received a call from Toys-R-US. 'Mr davis, the
Zelda II Nintendo cartridge is in, could you please come pick it
up within 24 hours?' When I got down there, they said that we
were number 12 on the waiting list. They started down the list
and called everyone. And I was the only one home! So we got the
cartridge (one of two they received in the shipment...) ....
