107.1 | Get around TUIT! | NEXUS::G_GEIGER | Where's the Cat Fud? | Thu Jun 16 1988 15:34 | 15 |
| Paula,
I've played Gaunlet in the arcades but have been
unable to find it for NES. I would love to get
my hands on it.
vs Zelda...
Gauntlet is more of a shoot'em up game, with mazes.
To my knowledge there are no hidden items, but you
can play with 1-4 people in the arcade. Hopefully
this means that 2 can play on NES.
Overall, I would say get it! It's fun!

| Paula,
I too have played Gauntlet in the arcade. The Nes version can
only play two at a time but you can choose four different characters.
I will pick it up tommorow and let you all know how it is.

| I checked with Toys R' Us in Wilmington and they said they'd expect
it in a week also. I also checked Child World in Chelmsford, no
luck.
Is this going to be hard to find like Zelda or Metroid? Gawd I hope
not!!!

107.5 | It's HERE!!! | SAHQ::SCHULTZ | | Mon Jul 25 1988 13:23 | 18 |
| Well, at last Gauntlet has arrive!!
I bought it Friday evening @ Toys r Us in Atlanta. It plays just
like the arcade version but for only two players. There are 90+
mazes in 5 kingdoms to be solved. The players must find clues in
each kingdom in order to gain entrance to the maze where the sacred
Orb is hidden. The game also uses a password feature to allow you
to continue the game from the last area solved.
The music, and many of the voice sounds from the arcade game are
included as well. For arcade Gauntlet addicts this game will be
a must have item. The documentation and game play are very good.
I would have to rate the game an 8.5 - 9.5.
More later as I go through the game.

107.6 | They get better and better!! | BAILEY::SCHWARTZ | | Tue Jul 26 1988 08:53 | 11 |
|
I bought it at Toys r Us in Framingham for $44.99. I must agree
with .5 and rate it around 9. Graphics, (limited) voices, and
game play are excellent. The game play is very much like the
arcade version within the limits of a t.v. game system.
I have had some problems with the password entry and continue
feature. It sometimes will not continue and graphics scatter.
You then have to reset game. At other times it will not accept
an old password. I would like to know if anyone else has this problem.

Is anybody aware of any secret passages in Gauntlet? On the first
level, if you shoot at the bricks against the wall in the upper
right-hand corner of the maze, you can find an exit portal. This
will advance you some fixed number of rooms ahead. Anybody else

107.9 | How's this for an answer | CYCLPS::FORTEN | | Sat Aug 06 1988 15:47 | 71 |
| Pat in answer to your question in .8 the answer is:
<SPOILER FOllOWS>
Yes. The room that you end up in from the hidden exit also has one.
If you want the exact location its....
In the left hand corner area. Not in the treasure chest section
but one of the blocks that are diagnol to it. Hope it helps. I think
theses are good to use if you want to get far in to the maze but
you lose a lot of medicine and food along with other goodies. I
wonder what would happen if one player took the hidden exit while
the other took the "Real Exit"? Have to find out.
Anyway Pat, if you find anymore surprises let me Know.

| There are many items hidden throughout,some are just extras, while
others are necessary to complete that room or following rooms.
I'm presently starting at rm#79, have 6 letters of the final
password, but having a hell of a time on the final world. Were able
to get up to rm#92, but unable to save our position after succesfully
completing a treasure room. I don't know why that happened, I can
only assume we keep taking the wrong exit.

| I believe rm#79 is the jumping off place for the 7th (not 6th) clue.
I've gotten the 7th, but also keep restarting at rm79, even after
passing the next treasure room. I can only figure that it is to
allow us the chance to stock up on keys and bombs before getting
into the very tough next set of rooms. Can't prove anything until
I get thru the treasure room further on. I suspect that will become
the new restart point (at least I hope so!)

have been stuck in room 32 for 1 day.
Now, I am a good NES game player (have completed both worlds of
ZELDA twice), but I just can't figure out which exit to take. This
is the room in the second maze what has ALL those exits!!! I have
found one exit, but it just takes me back to the previous room!!
I'm STUMPED!!!!
PLEASE HELP BEFORE I GO COMPLETELY BALD FROM PULLING MY HAIR OUT!!!

find any keys ANYWHERE in the area where I'm trapped. So I
either have to wait until I die or reset the game.

107.22 | hint for first clue room | GEMVAX::GRANT | also SMART5::MGRANT | Fri May 05 1989 12:17 | 19 |
| My son has solved the problem of getting the clue in the first
clue room. Unfortunately, I do not know the exact procedure, so
all I can give is a general hint:
<spoiler>
The question mark is surrounded by walls that cannot be broken.
However, somewhere in the room is a "platform"; not the kind
that immobilizes you when you step on it, but similar-looking.
If you step on the platform, then go back to the question mark,
on of the walls surrounding the question mark will be gone, and
you can get the clue.
THIS MAY NOT BE TOTALLY ACCURATE. My son told me about this
in passing one day, so I may not have the exact procedure down.
But I think that it's pretty close.

I recently got this game and have made it to the last "world"

was the most balanced player, so I could get pretty far. Once

characters, but for a beginner I would recommend that character.

I haven't seen any answers yet as to the 79-80-81-82
dilemna. I start at 79, and both 80 and 81 take me to either
82 (? room) or back to 79. From 82 it's always back to 80 or
81.
I assume that there's some way to get from the question
room forward, but I haven't found it. Any help would be
appreciated.
re: Question about characters
For beginners I'd think that the Valkyrie is best. As
somebody else said, she's the most balanced. But I like the
Wizard. His magic power is a big help, and eventually I have
gotten extra shot power (about 3 of them), extra fight power
(2), extra armor (1) and extra move speed (2). There are
probably more around as well. Oh, I think I have an extra
magic power too, but that does nothing for him. (I don't
htink that multiple doses of the other ones do much either,
but I'm not sure.) I enjoyed playing the Elf, too.
The Warrior is the only one I wouldn't play. Too slow, and
his inability to shoot through diagonal walls is a big
hindrance.

| I am looking for advice from a true Guantlet fanatic and pro. I have
recently purchased the cartridge from my local video store. Therefore,
I have no directions except for the little sticker they put on the
inside of the box. All this does is tell me what buttons do what. I
have succesfully attained level 60+ but, I can't get any further. I
think this is because I have passed up many opportunities due to lack
of understanding what they were.
Could someone post a note describing what each of the magic items look
like and do?
Also, how in the world do you control which teleporter you want to jump
to?
I came accross the same problem that was mentioned earlier too. I
can't find the secret block which allows access to the level one Code
Room. I don't think anyone ever really came right out and gave the
answer to that one.
I was glad to see the answer to Level 56! That room has bothered me
for quite some time. Just couldn't seem to get in to get all those
potions!!!!
Any help would be appriciated-
