102.0. "Rambo -- The game" by RSTS32::FLAHERTY (Rambo III ??) Fri Jun 03 1988 16:48

    	Has anyone played it yet? I looked at the back of the box and
    it looked "Okay". If anyone has played it, has it, or knows any
    'goodies' let us know. I'm wondering how the second movie based
    game is (second for the NES anyway).

102.1Rambo XX - This time it's PersonalFINALY::COLEPCThe SUNBELT Kid..Mon Jun 06 1988 10:289
    I bought Rambo about two weeks ago. It is fun to play, but I have
    not messed around with it very much due to vacation. Rambo has
    a couple of different weapons to select to kill the wandering bad
    guys like big spiders, bats and the enemy commandos. The instructions
    say there is a big Russian dude like in the second movie, but I
    have not seen him yet. On a scale of 1 to 10, 10 being the highest,
    it rates a 7 in my opinion.

102.2Good - once I got past the name.OFFRT9::BDIMBATEchos in the NightMon Jun 06 1988 11:2012
    I finished it this weekend. Turned out to be a much better game
    than I thought it would be, it kept opening up to new sections to
    be explored, harder "enemies" to defeat. This one has the password
    feature, similar to Metroid, that lets you stop and continue at
    a later time. Caution note: About 50% of the passwords I wrote down
    wouldn't work later, don't know why, very careful about upper/lower
    case and punctuation marks (or so I thought). Probably pay to write
    down the password the first time you get to "talk" to someone.

    I give this one an 8.

102.3Rambo stuck?GLDOA::GHEESLINGMon Jun 20 1988 01:362
    I agree, about a 7-8 rating. My son and I are stuck at the helicopter
    dropping bombs, any help?
102.4????CIMNET::GOSSELINMon Jul 25 1988 13:555
    I have had Rambo for about two weeks and play it off and on. Are
    there any hidden things or tricks anyone knows of like in super
    mario brothers? Has anyone run into other task like saving the kid
    in the cave?

    Help!!

    I'm having the same problem .3 is having. I get to the helicopter
    and can't get on it (although I expected that). The thing is, how
    do I find the enemy fort.

    To be more specific, I keep going thru the same screens from the
    helicopter pick up point all the way back to the river boat. But
    I can't find anything new. Its really getting tedious. I'm now at
    L5.

    Any help on what screen I can find a new "world" on (the enemy hangar
    maybe?) would be greatly appreciated.

I'm also having the same problem as .3 and .5. I have gotten to the helicopter
but I can not find anything new after this.

I have also reached L5 and have waited the 36 hrs hopeing something would
Happen, but no such luck.

Any and all spoilers, tips ect... would be appreciated.

    I have been successful in getting thru the jungle, the infested
    waters and the outside of a camp protected by the enemy with sandbags
    around. This is where my problem is. I have gone thru this fenced
    camp going east, killing the blue tigers, fending off attacks from
    the enemy, checking every door, destroying every box(or brick as
    the case may be), running back thru the camp, to the the bridge,
    destroying all of the boxes to be found there, back thru the camp
    which now offers a different and open path to the east.

    I say all this to say, what is the deal? I keep thinking that I
    have not successfully accomplished something because at one time
    I thought that I could see some eyes inside of the buildings and
    thus I think that there has got to be a way to get in. Also, I
    feel this way because I have not talked with anyone in a long time
    and have been long since accumulating additional possessions.

    PLEASE HELP ME CONTINUE ON!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
102.11Help Offered!DNEAST::DUMAIS_BOBMon Jan 09 1989 08:3946
	I just got this game on Friday. Completed it on Sunday, I think?
I'm not sure if it took more than thirty six hours to complete. The ending
I got leads me to believe that I did something wrong. Anyway, I'm going to
go through the game again starting tonight. I'll note the time carefully when
I start and as I go through the game. This is the first A<<laim Game pack
I have been satisfied with that I've played. I rate this game a solid 8.
	It's difficult to remember all the areas you travel to in this game.
It's quite a large area and many different paths can be taken. My son
remembers the movie and says that there are many areas in the game, especially
when you talk to people, that are the same as in the movie. I need to rent
the movie again to see for myself.

RE: -2
       Have you found the Kid? Have you destroyed the spider? If you've
done this you should have this part completed. Go back to CO the same way
you got to the Kid. Stop at the cabin where you talked with the man that
told you about the kid.
	Let me know if you got the kid or not. I can help you with the
rescue if you haven't got him yet.

RE: -1
	Please let me know what the last conversation was and who you
talked with. I'm not sure where you are!

RE: .3
	I had difficulty defeating the "Green Helicopter" also. I hope this
is the one .3 and others are referring to. Here are some hints on how to do
away with him. You've probably got it by now but here go's anyway...

	Possible Spoilers follow (GREEN HELICOPTER) ***

	Before you get to the helicopter make sure that you are at level 7
and have 9 medicine bottles. Get medicine in the boxes when you destroy
them. I'm not sure exactly where the boxes are before going to the helicopter
but I know they are in there somewhere.
	When at the helicopter you must jump and throw grenades at the thing.
You'll see when you get a hit when the grenade explodes. Keep an eye on your
life meter. When the screen starts flashing, pause and select the medicine
bottle. The only way I was able to defeat the helicopter was to fill the life
meter to 600+. Don't go all the way to 700 because you will waste part of a
medicine bottle. If you run out of grenades don't worry because the guy that
drops from the sky on the left gives grenades when he is destroyed.

	Hope this helps,
	Bob

    Hi Dave,

    	I haven't played this game for a while. Have you gone "down"
    and gotten the weapons yet? I'm not sure who you need to talk to
    when you go down. I know he was the guy who Rambo was going to
    go after as soon as he completed his misson. You need to go down
    on the S marker which means South!

102.16The fight continues....DNEAST::PURNELL_CHRINintendo Madness....Mon Apr 24 1989 11:5231
    I've tried using the code mentioned in the previous note, it does
    start you off with everything, including CO, the boy, pendant. etc...

    The problem I have is when it starts off, the screen is scrambled.
    I move "RAMBO" and finally come to the screen with CO standing there,
    but "RAMBO" is nowhere in sight. The screen moves back in forth
    when I move the controller, but he is "invisible".

    Otherwise the game is great.
    I haven't made it to the helicopter as of yet. I can get to the
    pick-up point but CO says:

    "Did you forget to do something?"

    I haven't found any prisoner's yet. Haven't found the spider yet.
    Haven't found the boy yet..... made it to the cave, but haven't found
    the lamp!

    Have fought the Blue tigers and
    the enemy around the sandbags.
    Have crossed the bridges with "THE BUBBLES"

                                Is there a method to this MADNESS!!

    Alright....I found the prisoner last nite....only to be defeated
    on the way to the pick-up point. Is there "available life" near

102.18The villagers are friendlyDEMON::FORTENIn Trinidad; Magic is High ScienceWed Apr 26 1989 13:1319
    Chris,

           There is actually two places (that I know of anyway) to get
    life.

    1) If you had already saved the kid in the cave, go back to the town
       and go into the first house. You will increase and fill up your
       life. You can only increase once but you can fill up as many times
       as you want.

    2) On your way up to the pick up, in the marsh is a fish at the end of
       one of the screens. If you kill it, it will give you medicine. You
       can keep killing it until you fill up on medicine.

    Hope this helps Chris,

    I still have'nt gotten past the helicopter yet.

102.19Gotta' find me a village to pillage!!DNEAST::PURNELL_CHRINintendo Madness....Thu Apr 27 1989 13:4124
    Scott,

                   I found the fish with the extra life......

    Where can I find the lamp in order to save the kid? Does this happen
    after I get the prisoner back to the pick-up point (which by the
    way I haven't done yet!#@#@$).

    Would it be better to find the kid first rather than the prisoner?

    I know the way to the caves.....can't see sh*t without the lamp!!!!

    Must be me...but I haven't gotten very far in this game...and by
    the sounds of it....I'm really not looking forward to meeting up
    with the "Green Helicopter"!

    Question: Is it better to go RIGHT or LEFT from the boat? I know
    right finally gets you to the prisoner (along with a bunch of N's
    and S's)...

    I won't give up........

          You can get the lamp in the village also. Just "talk" to the
    peasant that is walking along the village road and he will give you a
    lamp. The village is towards your right as you get off the boat.

          It sounds like you have'nt found your "guide" yet, Co. Did you?
    If not, just keep going north after you get off the boat.

          I have'nt played this game in a while so I can't remeber alot of
    it. I'll try playing again and see how far I get.

    Good luck,

102.21Off to the village...DNEAST::PURNELL_CHRINintendo Madness....Fri Apr 28 1989 15:0820
    Scott,

    	Finally got the prisoner and retreated back to the pick-up point
    and was left behind (kinda figured that, I saw the movie!!)

    	Co rescues Rambo and off I go.....WHERE?

    	I suppose by what you said, I have to go back to the boat and
    go right......find the peasant.....get the lamp.....go to the cave....
    rescue the boy......off to find the GREEN HELICOPTER I suppose?

    	The game doesn't make much sense right now....but once I figure
    out what's going on....it'll probably help.

    				Thanks for all the info, Scott.

102.22Off to nowhere!!DNEAST::PURNELL_CHRINintendo Madness....Wed Jun 07 1989 15:3918
    Well I've made some progress with this game (finally!).

    	I found the peasant, who in turn gave me the lamp. I've found
    the boy in the cave, fought what looked like a spider. Rescued
    the POW, got captured, escaped and ran off to the water fall
    and meet up with Co, who ends up dying in my arms before I can
    get her to America.

    				Now what?

    Bad guys are all around, which way do I go? To the right looks
    like there is a wall like before so I figured I had ran in circles,
    and when I go the other way, it gets me back to the first waterfall.
    Still haven't found that GREEN HELICOPTER. Where are the other
    prisoners I'm suppose to rescue? HELP!!!!!!!

102.23Still honeymoonin'HOCUS::LANDRONWed Jun 07 1989 15:5710
    Chris,
    	Ah, we meet again!
    	You know, this game has its ups and downs, and sometimes you
    have to go to extremes to get somewhere. It never has been easy
    to be a pick-up-- particularly if you have just gotten over being
    lost. Whatever you do, make sure you have enough fruit (such as
    "pineapples") to give you the knockout power you will need.
    	If the above proves too subtle, well you know how to reach me.
