89.13 | Helpful Hint | BCSE::SCOPA | The Major | Wed Apr 20 1988 14:44 | 33 |
| Okay...here's how I got through that room. Dana starts off on the
upper right hand side of the room. Knock out one of those three
blocks on the top row and continue to the left. This traps the
salamanders.
Now you have to make a long row of blocks to the left so that you
prolong the time it takes for the salamanders to get to the bottom
of the screen. Meanwhile, you go to the bottom, run over to the
right side and work your way to the key.
Remember, after you make the left extension to the bottom row you
have to free the salamanders so they go that way.
I did that two nights ago so I'm kinda sketchy on the details.
* * * * *
By the way, for those of you who haven't seen Solomon's Key it has
to be the Nintendo bargain of the year. $19.99 at Kay-Bee Toys.
I borrowed it last Friday and got hooked so I went out and purchased
my own.
Toughest rooms so far (I'm only up to 24) were 7,8,11,13,20, and
22. Of course there are some rooms that seem easy once you get the
hang of it, and then there are rooms that take awhile to complete
even when you know what has to be done.
I am looking forward to beyond room 28. The only drawback to this
game is you can't plug it in and start from the last room you finished,
but you can use the continuous play feature...otherwise forget it.

In the room pointed out in .17, the wings (warp for you Mario types)
are at the very top above the upper right hand 'solid' brick. You
need to create a brick in that spot, then remove it to get them.
More time is available at the very top above the upper left hand
solid brick. Once again you need to create a brick then remove
it.
Once you've collected the wings, you'll be in room 13 when you exit

89.41 | MAGIC on Level 20 | TRCT02::WALDNER | | Fri Jan 20 1989 13:11 | 21 |
| I discovered a trick on level 20 that is really worth noting. This is the
screen where most of it is covered with demonic seals and you have to master
the stretch zap and the leap. In the top left is a blank spot that you would
normally ignore since you are so close to the key and the door.
If you zap it, it will become a brick and if you zap it again it becomes a
magic sign of some sort, but you can't make it go away or capture it. Zap
it again and it becomes a brick. Now, if you bump it from below twice to
break the brick, you'll find nothing there ... for a few seconds ... but
wait and suddenly it appears. Then you can grab it, though not always on
the first try.
It's worth an extra Dana plus 500,000 points!
I have only made this work for me after I have captured the zodiac sign
under the top space right of the key and only on the first man into
level 20. My highest score to date is 1,146,200.
Anyone know how to beat level 45 ??

Those of you who regularly read 89.* have seen me ask for advice on

to level 49 with 5 Dana's and 5 Fireballs with 2,677,000 points. But, darn it,
I can't seem to get ANYWHERE in level 49.
To begin with, I noticed that the 5 fireballs that I had at the completion
of Level 48 mysteriously vanished once I appeared in 49 and I am trapped in

funny to me, since it took a solid hour and a half to get there!

Room 21 - To the left of the door

They've shown me some tricks, like uncovering an invisible bell in an

like to solve screen 5 (I know, I know, everybody else is worrying

| If you have found the seal in room 46, you are doing very well (it is above
the door). I have found that beating level 46 requires some fireballs, and
if you have super fireballs its even better. To do the following, you need
to read these steps very carefully.
1. Start with a run to the left along the bottom and zap a brick in the
third stone from the left. Jump up on it.
2. Stretch zap a second stone in the leftmost column on the second row up
and jump onto it quickly. Now you can catch your breath.
3. Work your way up this way to the row below the slamander shelf and knock
off the giant between salamander runs with a brick that he steps on that
you zap out from underneath him.
4. Now for the tricky part. Facing right, at the right time put a brick and
fire your first fireball. That will kill the first salamander. Turn left
and fire your second fireball. That will go up the wall and kill the
second salamander.
5. Don't waste time admiring your shot, jump up and run right to the end of
shelf, pop a brick, jump on it, face left, pop a brick and jump on it.
Now those salamanders can't get you. Knock off the top giant if he still
remains, grab the key and escape through the door.

Frank,
Thank you,Thank you,Thank you!!! You have just save my game from
the wastebasket! Your detailed note got me right through room
46. Thanks again. I made it through room 47 (and found the seal, thanks!).
Still working on room 48.
I have another question: The instruction booklet talks about two missing
pages - "Time Conjuration" and "Space Conjuration". I have found both
pages. I have no problem getting the first page and leaving the room.
I can get the second page but get stuck in the inverted triangle of
gray blocks and have to wait for time to run out (and lose a Dana).
Have you found these two rooms and do you run into the same problem
that I am having? I can tell you where they are if you don't already
know.
Thanks again for all your help. I think this is the most challenging
game I've played yet.

89.58 | The 'Full' Story | TROC01::WALDNER | | Thu Dec 28 1989 21:28 | 14 |
| Good question!
Before you "go for it" on the second 'special' room, take a run over to the left
and zap the open door. Then you should be able to zap the bottom stone. Then
you can get the prize and scram without losing a man.
Have you completed the 'full' game yet? To do that, you need to get all 8
seals as well as the two 'special' scrolls. The first scroll appears after
room 20 and the second appears after room 44. You will then get the 'princess'
room after room 48 and then you'll need to finish with the Solomon Room.
Let me know if you too are a 'master'.

| Thanks for the tip on the second 'special' room. I will try it
tonight.
I have gotten to the princess room and have no idea how to get out of
it. I lost seventeen men in this room and was ready to pull my hair
out! I got to the solomon room on the next game I played by not
collecting all the seals but I realize this is not the true ending.
I let you know how I make out. Thanks again!

| OK,
Princess Room spoiler follows .....
Step 1: Stand top and centre and you'll be able to break some grey bricks on
both left and right.
Step 2: Drop down the right hand side. Zap the column of grey bricks on your
way down.
Step 3: (I'm not sure if this is required, but do it anyway). Stand up on a
block and zap the flame. Nothing happens, then zap the brick under
the flame and climb back to the top.
Step 4: Repeat for the left side.
Step 5: The grey stone next to the last grey stone that you broke on the
bottom of the left column should now break.
Step 6: Try the same things again on the inner heart and you should succeed.
(I don't want to give away all the secrets just yet).
Good luck!

I think to continue you do the following,
Up,A and B you should start where you left off
This is from Nintendo Power magazine
Its doesn't say if you hold all of them at once or not.
You'll have to try different combo's if it doesn't work.
Also coloect 10 fairies to gain an extra life
Hope this helps

| It's been a while and I don't have the game with me right now, but as I recall
you have to hold A and B and UP while the music is still playing at the end of
the game. Do it quickly after you've lost your last Dana or it won't work!
This only works up to room 41, after that you can only restart from room 41
and I've never been able to survive long without an accumulation of fireballs
which you have to get prior to room 41.

| Where and What is the "Princess Room" ?? I see it referred to several
times in the notes. With the help of many others I finally made it to
what seems to be the end of the game. We didn't warp and made it all
the way to the end and all the monsters went into a cave and then it
sunk into the ground. Is this the real ending??? I never came to a
Princess room, I did however, make it to the room with the book and
right after that is when everything else happened(monsters sinking
in the ground).

89.71 | Princess Room | TROC01::WALDNER | | Sat Apr 14 1990 10:45 | 17 |
| Regarding the "Princess Room" ...
You have to collect all eight seals (Star of David) through the various
rooms in which they are found. In addition, you must also have both scrolls
(or whatever they are) and then you will be presented with a special room
after room 48 called the "Princess Room". After you finish that room, you will
continue to the "Soloman Room" as you have already done.
If you have done all this, the 'true' ending to the game will be revealed. I
have found three different endings. The simple one, which does not have a
finality to its closing message, a better one that you get with all eight
seals, and the true ending with the seals and the two scrolls (these are the
special rooms after rooms 20 and 44.
good luck,

| My son showed me something I had never seen before out of a Nintendo magazine
that I just had to write up in the Soloman's Key note topic. This really works!
In room 17 when you bump the top right GREY brick, just above where you start,
hit it 11 times and a special fairy pops out. Catch the fairy and all the other
bad creatures turn to fairies!
Try it, you'll like it!

89.73 | To Frank: 10,000,000 Thanks! | DZIGN::KJOHNSON | | Thu Jul 05 1990 07:58 | 29 |
| Thanks, Frank!!!
I found the Nintendo Notes file by accident Tuesday (looking for
a notes file that might help with a laundry problem) and was
delighted to find other solomon fans. I was really stuck on the
princess room and the flame trick worked very well.
My ending score was over 7,000,000 but I was so excited I forgot
to write it down. I haven't seen a higher score in this file
so wonder if some people are zipping through rooms to fast to get
all the treasures..??
I tried Frank's trick in room #20 for gettting points for the
'face on the wall' but failed. There's another 'face' further on
in the game and tried the #20 trick there and failed again.
No one has mentioned their EDV score. Yesterday when I successfully
finished I had and EDV of 80 which was only 1 point more than when
I was stuck in the princess room, so somehow think I'm missing a
few tricks or treats somewhere.
I'll be happy to share room #s of some of the more valuable treasures
if anyone is still interested, they include gold seals, gold eagles,
gold 'flower-faces', and '1-up' jars.
Thanks again Frank for saving me. I was afraid I'd never see the
end of the game.

89.74 | SK is Alive Again! | TROC01::WALDNER | | Fri Jul 06 1990 18:30 | 37 |
| Glad I could help. I found that Soloman's Key is the best game I've played
yet, and I've played quite a few. I'd give SMB-III second place. I would
love to hear about some of the other treasures you've found. I thought I'd
found most of them already, but this flower-thing sounds intriguing.
I suggest that players of Soloman's Key who would like to start a list of
'fabulous treasures' use the following notation:
Treasure Room Location Acquisition
====================== ==== ======== =========================
1-up jar (Red) 3 R1 - C15 Place stone, then break
Where: R designates brick row numbers
C designates brick column numbers
+-------------------------------+ I don't really remember
R1 | | the number of rows and
| | columns on the screen,
| | but most players must know
| | about the 1-up in the
| | upper right corner of
| | room 3
R15 | |
+-------------------------------+
C1 C15
I'll start playing again and see how many "FT's" I can find. Let's try
to keep these limited to truly special prizes.
There is one sort of FT that I keep finding in many rooms that we call
Origami - is looks kind of spiky. I think its worth 100K points. Flags
for warps are not really worth points, but I do consider them FT's as well
as the gold seals and the golden 'birds' and the star of David. The special
scrolls need not be included since they are already in special rooms.
OK SK players - let's revive the interest!
|
89.75 | Treasure Teasers! | DZIGN::KJOHNSON | | Mon Jul 09 1990 13:27 | 52 |
| Hi Frank,
I'm glad you still keep up with SK. I was afraid you'd miss the
thanks.
I found room 47 to be most difficult. It's the only one I never
could get out of without using at least 2 Dana's. I also never
had the problem of getting thrown back to room 41 if I died in 42
or 43, but never ever got out of 43 without fireballs going in.
I'll start with clues to my FT's but if you want more details,
I'll be glad to share.
1) The first 'flower-face' is in room 19. Worth 500K I believe.
2) I found 5 flags. If mathematic progression in correct, there
would be a 6th in room #47, but I couldn't find one. This is
probably because it's game-end.
3) The gold seal, like the flower-face, must be found on the first
time in the room. If you die, it does not appear on Dana's 2nd
run through. I've found 5 or six of these (my notes are at
home) and the first that I know of is in room 22. The gold seal
may well be your Origami...actually, it looks like a geometric
seal or swan on a skewer.
4) I only ever found one gold eagle, and it's in the same room as
a flag, a little more than halfway through the game. Like the
seal and the flower-face, get it one the first pass at the room.
5) Rooms 33 and 45 have more than 1 surprise.
And I hope you found the 2nd fairy bell in rooms 1 and 33.
Don't forget that filled and half-filled time jars and hourglasses
are treasures because they help increase your point score.
P.S. The face on the wall in 38 behaves the same as the one
in 20, only slower.
If you have many Dana's to spare in the princess room,
you can really build up your score by wasting a few
Dana's because the origamis there come back!
Have a blast. I agree, of the 16 we own, SK and it's deceiving
simplicity is the best because it really challenges the gray
matter.
Don't forget the EDV!

| TREASURE MATRIX FOR ADDICTS!
I don't want to take the adventure out of the game yet,
so I'm only going to fill in part of the matrix, Treasure
and Room:
I suggest that new players avoid this spoiler, because part
of the fun of this game is discovery, so unless you've made
it to the Solomon Room, I'd advise skipping it.
It might be fun if my fellow SK-Addicts fill in the Location/
Acquisition. It will also help correct any errors my failing
memory may have generated! Also, please add in any I've
missed.
Some of the objects are named as what they look like to me
because I couldn't find the object in the instruction book.
These are Hidden treasures. If I screw up and include a
treasure that is visible when you enter the room, please
correct me. I've also included Super FireBalls because
they can be very valuable for survival.

You get to the secret special room twice, once for the upper half
after room 20 and then for the lower half after room 44. I believe
you must not have missed collecting any of the special 'seals' (star
of David). This special room holds the two mystical scolls of TIME
and SPACE, as I recall from the instruction booklet.
You need both scrolls plus the two remaining seals to complete the
game with the 'true' ending.

so you've worked your way counter clockwise onto the shelf after
breaking the brick. That's most of the work.

Now wink your wand at the 'Mirror of Camir'. That is required before

the book and its over.
Let me know if this is not clear enough. Good luck

| Well for as much as I play this game I ought to be the grand
champion but the truth is I have never finished it. I can get all the
way to room 47 in about 1 1/2 hours but always seem to mess it up some
how the last time the dog got in the way and pulled the controller out

89.88 | All major spoilers accepted... | TEMPE::MERRICK | Stark Raving Sane!? | Sat Jul 04 1992 11:09 | 8 |
| Does anyone still play this game? I got it last week, and I love it.
But I can't get past room 20 (the one that's mostly demonic seals and
you have to do the wild jumps).
I can get to a certain point about half way up the left side, and
that's all. If anyone is still playing I'd love some help...

89.89 | level 20 in solomons key.
| CSC32::B_GODWIN | | Mon Jul 20 1992 05:29 | 13 |
| In order to get to the exit of level 20 you have to stretch to build bricks
in the spaces that do not have the mirrors in them. you need first to fill in
some of the open spaces on the right side of the screen and then buiuld and climb
up the left so that you can reach the blocks that you made on the right. Once
situated above ground on the right you build and work upwards on the right and
make your way back to the upper left corner. form there it is easy to make your
way to the key and the door. some times it is possible to jump when you enter
this screen to jump and get the key right away. there is also some secrets in
this room. an hour glass hidden on the lower left, the hidden room key in the
upper right and an intricate trick located in the top left corner that you can
find explained elsewhere in this note.

89.90 | Help on 44 & 45? | TEMPE::MERRICK | Stark Raving Sane!? | Fri Aug 28 1992 14:24 | 11 |
|
Any hints on 44 and 45?
If I get to 44, I can get the zodiac sign and break the blocks under
the fire next to the door, but then I can't get back across to
finally get up to the top without dying in one fire or another.
If I warp to 45, I can get the key and the origami, but I can never
get past that last mirror where the demons come out...

89.91 | Only the seals? | TEMPE::MERRICK | Stark Raving Sane!? | Sat Oct 03 1992 11:37 | 7 |
| Earlier notes stated that you had to have all the seals to get the
special rooms after rooms 20 and 44. I always get the one after 20,
but I've never gotten the one after 44. And I have all the seals.
Do you also need the zodiacs? I've been skipping the one in 44
because that's the only way I can get out of it...

89.92 | secret rooms | CSC32::B_GODWIN | | Mon Oct 05 1992 01:40 | 4 |
| in order to get into any secret room you must get the
zodiac symbol in the room just before it. If you get all
of the stars, up to 20 and miss getting the zodiac
symbol in 20 you'll miss the secret room as well.

89.93 | Dying cartridge? | TEMPE::MERRICK | Stark Raving Sane!? | Mon Oct 05 1992 11:24 | 13 |
| A couple of strange things happened while I was playing yesterday.
First, at then end of one of the rooms, the music sounded like it
was going slower, sort of like an old 45 record played on 78. Then,
in a different game, in room 31, I had zapped the warp then decided
not to get it, and some of the gray blocks changed to brown (but
they were still solid). Later, in room 48, I noticed that I was
able to run through some of the fires...
Are these things normal? Do I have a mutant cartridge or is it
just wearing out?
