I had the chance to play this on a demonstrator at Kiddie City in
Rochester, N.Y. As zap and blast games go it isn't too bad. I
would buy it myself at the $20 price if I didn't already have a
wealth of such games. If you do decide to buy the game my only
advise to you would be enjoy!

82.2 | Mission: Almost IMPOSSIBLE? | SCOMAN::BARNES | | Mon May 16 1988 23:57 | 11 |
| I purchased the game of ALPHA MISSION a few months ago. What I
enjoy about it is discovering the different ways through it. As
you progress through each wave, you can pick up assorted weapons,
each with different characteristics. At the same time, it is fast
enough to keep me moving.
For a good coin-op comparison, I'd rate this with Atari's XEVIOUS
- perhaps even better than that.

82.3 | Area 2.. Help? | SPUD::GAYF | | Tue Aug 02 1988 12:29 | 13 |
| Just p
urchased Alpha Mission myself, and find it quite the game,
but am having some problems getting into area 2. Seems those missle
like aliens love to ambush me from the side, so constant shooting
straight ahead proves to be ineffective. Could any of you Alpha
players recommend a good weapon against them. I was thinking of
using the CANNON but I usually use it against the octopus like creature
that lies between the first and second areas. As it proves to be
most effective against it. Since I have only played for about an
hour total, and suggestions/recommendations would be appreciated.

82.4 | TRY THIS WEAPON! | JACKAL::HUFF | | Tue Aug 02 1988 15:52 | 13 |
| I have owned Alpha Mission for a couple of months and I have reached
level 5 once (lucky). After completing level 1, I choose the fire
beam to kill the octopus and continue to level 2 with the fire beam.
I push my ship to the front or top of the screen and go nuts killing
everything and picking up energy thus keeping my fire beam going.
I finished level 2 with the fire beam once and chose another weapon
which I won't say because it will ruin what comes next. What you
are doing with the fire beam is moving back and forth and not giving
the torpedo attackers a chance to get set. Try it and let me know
how you make it out.

82.5 | Level 2>3..help? | SPUD::GAYF | | Fri Aug 05 1988 09:52 | 12 |
| I cant seem to get past level 2. Reading the instructions, it says
that the particular nasty that lies in wait between level 2 and
3 can only be destroyed when its arms open up. Well, so far they
never have. I have used the CANNON and FIRE on it, and it's still
closed tight as a clam. How to I get it to at least open its arms
to make this a fair fight? Gets old after awhile just dodging bombs
being dropped by this monster. I have found this game to be VERY
tough (I like hard games!), but with enough knowledge of whats coming
up, and dexterity of the joystick, I can see where one can advance.
Thanks,
Frank.

82.6 | I think it's lightning | JACKAL::HUFF | | Fri Aug 05 1988 16:26 | 9 |
| Frank,
What I do after I make it through level 2 is to chose the lightning
weapon and when I see this nasty creature I let him or her have
it! The lightning weapon uses up a lot of energy so save it until
you see the creature. This lightning weapon is supposed to destroy
everything on the screen and it does. Good luck!

82.7 | Will give that a try! | SPUD::GAYF | | Sat Aug 06 1988 23:49 | 6 |
| Wow.. thats great Rodney.. Thanks will give that a try and see if
I can make it further still. Have been getting past level 2 regularly
now but find it most annoying getting clobbered everytime ..
Thanks,
Frank.

82.8 | Arm photon torpedoes, Mr. Sulu! | SCOMAN::PHILLIPS | | Mon Aug 15 1988 22:54 | 7 |
| The weapon you are looking for is the THUNDER option. At the end
of level two, I select it and move to one side. When the baddie
appears, press the missile button and CRASH! No more baddie!
This works well at the end of level three, also.

82.9 | Need more energy units!? | SPUD::GAYF | | Tue Aug 16 1988 12:03 | 6 |
| Is there a way to aquire more energy unit than just 24. Seem that
during all the stages, I can only get 24 units, after that hitting
the E box does nothing for my energy reserve. Is there something
I can do (or attempt to do) that will allow me to store more enery?

82.10 | "Captain, ye canna overload the warp drive..." | SCOMAN::PHILLIPS | | Wed Aug 31 1988 01:32 | 13 |
| Re. 82.9
As far as I can tell, 24 energy units is the max that you can pick
up, and they are used up only with the special weapons or the use
of the shield.
--Eric--
P.S. Did you know that you can pick up your maximum of everything
(speed, missiles, lasers AND all special weapons AND 24 energy
units) in one fell swoop? Look for the hidden "?" symbol at the
start of area 2. I sure wish there were a few more of those
symbols to be found!
