Does anybody have Mega Man or Jaws? What do you think of them?

If anybody else is considering games but not likely to buy them without
hearing something good about them, please enter your own requests.

    	Good Idea Eric.

I was wondering how the home version of Elevator Action compared
with the arcade version. I wasn't too good in the arcade, but here may
    be a chance to improve.

I was also wondering how the "home version" of Arkinoid compared.
How does the little joy stick/paddle work? Can you use the regular
controller? I really don't care for the game (mainly because I've
pumped tons of quarters into it and never made any progress!!!), but
why I'm asking is I saw it for $34.99, tha is a lot less than $50!

    					Just curious...

hi pat, i have elevator action and love it, i too wasn't too good
in the arcade with this one (it's embarrassing being beat'en by
your 13 year old nephew), i really bought the NES after seeing DK3
and elev.act. both being made for it...oh yes and NOW i can beat
him at this game, just takes time...

about 6 weeks ago i got arkanoid, you can only play it with the
special controller (as far as a can tell) there are supposed to
be two more games being made for this controller to be out soon(?),
what ever that means...oh and when ever i get upset with one of
the other carts. i plug in arkanoid, and get a few hours of enjoyment
out of the NES...well worth the $35. i'd say...

Arkanoid is a nice game. The paddle it comes with is fine. You can
use the regular controller, but I have not tried.

60.4Arkanoid is pretty closeVAXWRK::INGRAMLarry IngramMon Feb 22 1988 09:5042
Pat,

I bought Arkanoid for $29.99 at Rich's. I've also seen it for about
	$30 at Toys-R-Us.

The controller that it comes with takes a little getting used to.
The arcade version has a flywheel attached to the knob so that it
requires more initial force to get the knob turning and once turning
will "freewheel". The controller packed with the game uses a
potentiometer which is almost effortless to turn and does not
"freewheel". The size of the controller is almost (if not exactly) the
same size as the regular controller.

You can use the regular controller to play this game, but I doubt
anyone would want to. The left/right control is done by pushing the
left and right points on the cross. The speed at which the Vaus moves
	is fixed and pretty slow.

The graphics are not quite as good as the arcade version. Some of the
objects have a bit of a ragged edge to them. Also, it is difficult to
see the letter on some of the capsules. If not for the color, it would
be impossible to figure out what they were. I'm color blind and can't
tell the difference between a Break and a Player capsule.

Some of the screens are slightly different, for instance round 3 in
the arcade version has an extra row of gold (indestructable) bricks
at the bottom. This is probably due to the difference in the
orientation of the screen; the screen in the arcade version is
vertical (tall and narrow), while the home version is horizontal
	(short and wide).

The game "remembers" the high game since it was turned on (it
initially set it to 50000). Unfortunately, it retains only one high
score and there is no provision for entering initials (the music
the arcade version plays while you enter your initials has a real
	nice beat).

Other than these differences (minor, really), this game is just like
the arcade version. The music, sound effects, and play are the same. I
definitely recommend it if you want to save some quarters.

Just off the phone from NESI UK LTD (the new distributers of NES
stuff in the UK) and they tell me Zelda will be available in the
UK this April/May and Metroid will be around in September. I don't
know which to buy, or wether to fork out for both.
Any suggestions or comparisons beyond the ratings table note in
this conference? A few suggestions by people who own both would
be appreciated as 75-80 pounds for both is a bit steep.

    Thanks

Did someone ask about MEGA MAN?

I rented it, and I thought it was pretty good. I killed all
the enemys and was battling against Dr. Willy's level, and I
accidentaly kicked my NES. I then decided to forget it and return it. I
wasn't going to get stiffed another $2.50. Good game, I liked it.
The game was good in that after you killed someone you got to use
    his weapon.

My daughter is bugging me for this one for Xmas but I've not heard

Are we talking about "Mousecapades" or something like that? My

I have played it once or twice, but have formed no real opinion.

Rented KARNOV over the weekend. One of the few games that I
rented and wanted to buy after playing. Good graphics, sound and
requires strategic play to complete the stages successfully. Made
it to stage 5 after 4 hours of play.

Other games that I've rented or borrowed and will not buy.

CONTRA - Too easy. Completed after 5 hours of play. Good
graphics though with interesting 3d scenes.

GAUNTLET - Ok at first but the similar type screens made for tedious
play. Got up to level 76 after 4 hours of play.

GHOSTS AND GOBLINS - Real irritating game to play until I found out
about the code to get to the various stages. Very difficult
                  with mediocre graphics.

WIZARDS AND WARRIORS - Good graphics and fairly good game play. Couple
of items were real difficult to get at, even with the
correct powers in your arsenal to get them. Because of this
frustration factor I wouldn't buy it. May rent it again,
                  though.

SPY vs. SPY - Only good if you play against someone with the same
understanding of the game as yourself. Lousy graphics,
and hard to read room maps left a bad impression.

CASTLEVANIA - Got stuck and frustrated on the second level. May
rent again to see if a negative opinion has changed. Now
Simon's Quest may be another story.

DEADLY TOWERS - Didn't enjoy this one at all.

    Hi,

Can anyone tell me what Q-Bert is like, it sounds very familar to
me. Is it an old game or new? It brings to mind pacman for some
reason, is it that type of game?

    Thanks, Angela
60.23ALIEN::POSTPISCHILAlways mount a scratch monkey.Mon Mar 20 1989 08:1516
    Re .22:

Q-Bert is an old arcade game. The character, a sphere with a few
facial features and spindly legs, jumps around a triangle/pyramid of
cubes. The object is to get all the tops of the cubes to a certain
    color.

In the arcade version, the first four rounds requiring jumping on each
cube one or more times to get it to the proper color. In later rounds,
it requires two or more jumps, an even number of jumps, a multiple of
three jumps, and so on. There are a variety of creatures which harass
you. Some are only dangerous, some change the color of the cubes
(ruining your work), and some do good things like freeze the action.
