51.0. "The "...Link" Watch" by BCSE::SCOPA (The Major) Tue Jan 19 1988 08:40

We are all anxiously awaiting the Adventures of Link so I thought
I'd create this note for everyone to check to see when this game
    comes out.

Only reply to this note if you have information regarding the
availability of The Adventures of Link. That is, insert a reply
with the name of the store, location, and price of the game once
    you have come across it.

More information on the "Wiz" please. If you place your special
order, when are they committing delivery. I have talked to the
game consultants at Nintendo and a guy who has a relative working
for Nintendo. The guy' relative has said it won't be available
until the end of February. The consultants say it won't even be
released until March or April. What is Wiz saying and what are
they asking for the cartridge ?

I had the oppurtunity to talk with a guy on the Nintendo tips line
on 3/7 and asked him what his understanding of Link's released date
was. He said.....You probably won't see it for at least 8-10 weeks.
Zelda is in such demand that it doesn't make sense to release it
until the demand goes down, riding out the crest of the wave (so
    to speak).

Hey, out there...stop looking for and buying Zelda.

Rumor through my sons' school grapevine is that LINK has made an
appearance at several local New Jersey outlets (Toys R Us, Service

I just spoke with the folks at Nintendo and they informed me that
there is in no way, a chip shortage. Their reasoning behind the
delay is so that enough games can be created to meet the expected
demand. They are trying to avoid the original link "crunch." They
said they would like to make the release as fair as possible to
all, and by producing a lot of games ahead of time, they feel that
no one area will run into a shortage.

    Frank.

-* They also said that they feel that this game (like Zelda) will
easily sell over 1 million copies as well.

	$64 (US$53) in Consumer's Distributing (a store chain like

$70 (US$58) in Compucentre (a local computer store) and they

Call me crazy, but I got one.

When I called Compucentre, they said they didn't mailorder. They
DID take major credit cards over the phone, where the other place
didn't. I offered them $10 to prepair it for shipping, and paid
for the Federal Express myself. The process was like this:

Called Federal Express and got an account number so I could charge
    the charges.

Called Compucentre and paid for the cartridge and $10 "handling"
    by my VISA card.

Called Federal Express in Ottowa to arrainge the pick-up.

Called Compucentre and let them know when Fed. Exp. would pick up
    the package.

    Recieved the package next morning.

It sounds like the process was ironed out through this. Neither
of us had any idea how to get the game from Ottowa to Maine. It
sounds like they will now pay Fed. Exp. charges and add it to your
bill. It also sounds like the $10 is no longer necessary. I didn't
mind paying it and after 12 solid hours of playing I've decided
it was worth the price and the hassle. Now to start the Official
    Link note....

I just got off the phone with Compucentre in Ottowa, Canada. I ordered
"The Adventures Of Link" from them. They got a shipment of 48 in
and after my order they have one left. They are not sure they will
get any more in for some time. I spoke with Nintendo before I placed
my order and they emphatically told me that they would not be doing
any U.S. shipments til January. They said the shipment was made
to Canada because there was a lot less demand. They still claim
there is a chip shortage. Also they want to build up their inventories
before they open up shipments in the U.S. I wouldn't be surprised
to see them move up shipments to just before Christmas, create a
rush and the retailers can mark up their prices due to the scarecity
    of the game.

Re -32. The game was released in Canada a couple of months ago.
Note 41 is the official note for The Adventures of Link. Those of
us that got the game through sources in Canada have contributed
to that note. As I mentioned in some previous note Nintendo originally
said they were releasing the game in the U.S. in late December or
January. I commented that I thought they may release it earlier
than that, create a demand through controlled distribution in the
U.S. and that way let the price rise. What is it selling for now
in those stores that have it?

I was at the Pheasant Lane Mall in NH. last night. Checked
all the usual stores with no luck. Kaybee Toy quoted me
a price of 59.99 (who do they think they are kidding!) for
Link when they got it in. They didn't expect another shipment
      until early next week.

Well, while strolling through Lechmere with the family, what
should be in the middle of the aisle but boxes of NES units
with a small stack of Link cartridges! Hovering around them
was a small group of people with stunned looks on their faces.
I checked the price and nearly jumped with glee when I saw
39.99 on the box! Now I had a stunned look. My wife made me
head to the car while she "secretly" purchased one for me for
Christmas. Don't bother with Kaybee Toy and Robbery, camp out
at Lechmere instead. Sorry about not picking up extras, but

south of the Liberty Tree Mall on the right side of the road if
you were traveling south. As of yesterday at noon they had many
of the "hard to get" games including Zelda II, Bases Loaded, and
SMB II(?). The prices were about $10 more than someone would expect
to pay at KayBees or Toys 'R Us. Just a note: They don't take plastic
    but would take checks.

I literally grabbed the last Link at Children's Palace here in CO.
Most store don't even have it. I am beginning to think it is a
bad re-make of the ol' gas shortage routine just to make us crazy.
I paid 49.00 for it, which is more than I wanted to do, but what
can I say, we're junkies in this house. And I might add, it was
    well worth the money!!!

BTW: The kids are making better progress than the adults are!! Does
this mean that when one gets older, one gets 'slower'??

I seem to have bought the cheapest copy at $34.99. I would have
paid more, but that's the price they were asking. Also, it was
the only time I have seen it at any store.

Actually, if you count the ammount of money this game costs, including
the lost earning potential of doing something useful with your time,
playing "The Adventures of Link" probably cost well over $100K.

My mother found a copy of Link for me for Christmas. She only
looked in one place, Longs drug store, and they had several
of them. I don't know how much they cost, though.

    Hi,

I am still looking for the Adventures of Link and still can't seem
to find it anywhere. Have any of you Linksters seen the game around
    anywhere ????

    Thanks,

C'mon Brian get with it! Sleep outside the Child Worlds, Toys 'R' Us,
and other Nintendo Headquarters like the rest of us and you too can
join Link in his new adventures.

    Major,

Are you kidding ? I have spent more time travelling and telephoning
around looking for Link than I have spent playing all my Nintendo
    games.

I'm hoping that DEC will buy out Nintendo and I can get Link that
way. Wouldn't it be nice to have an employee purchase price !

51.60LINK for SMB IIKAOFS::LOCKYERGarrySun Feb 12 1989 21:5810
I have an extra Link, still in the box with the seal in place. I'd
like to get SMB II, but I'm too lazy to go look for SMB II and try to
convince some store to make a trade. So, if there is someone out
there who knows where to get SMB II and wants to swap, send me mail.

    Hello,

I got Zelda II from CHILD WORLD in Medford, Mass. for $47.24
    ($44.99 + 2.25 tax )

I think this was the first game in a box they just got, and they
did not had a chance to even put the sale tickets on display.

After playing Zelda II for a few hours I like this better than Zelda.

I hope you get your Zelda II game.
