I won!
Last night, it was pretty easy too.
I've only had the game for a week, but thanks to someone saying,"I
think this one likes holy water." I won it.
Here is a sure way to kick some a**:
First, after you walk up the stairs, and then get all the candles,
go back down and do it again. Do this untill you've got at least 40
harts. Then proceed to know his head off with the whip. Use the holy
water to put out some fireballs, and eventually you'll get II shot,
then know his head off completely. When he turns into the Gargoil
(SP?), keep hitting him with the holy water. This will turn him into
dust. The ending is good, but I didn't think the Graphics were that
good (on the ending, the rest were great!). if you thought Round 1 was
hard, IN round 2, there are Medusa heads where they wern't before,
there are tiny 'glow' bats where there shouldn't be. It's tuff!
If anybody needs any hints... Just mail me,
Pat..

possible spoiler follows:
You must jump up and hit his head with the whip.
Or, you can use the boomerang, after you get Drac's energy down to
Zero, his head will fly off. This is when you need the "HOLY
WATER".
and then, you do it all over again...

The holy water is also somtimes called:
Smoke Bombs
Fire water
"The blue jar thingies..."
They, I think, can be found at the beging of Grimreaper's
level. When you throw them it burns the ground in front of the
enemy (doesn't the book say somthing like that?).
Anyway, why would you want holy water? I think Boomerangs
are the best for "Death" (The credits call him death).
You played the most important role in the story..

Hey all you Castlevania fans! Guess what!
... CASTLEVANIA II ...
Its in the arcades under the name "Haunted Castle".
It is awsome (where have I heard that?) !!!! I didn't get to far as it
seems the controls were still a little stiff. I wrote to Konami as to
if this is going to be made available for Nintendo, and I expect a
reply shortly.
The begining is great, exelent graphics. It seems as though our
friend Simon just got married. It shows him and his new bride walking
towards you, then lightning strikes, burns the cross off of a church,
and the then Drac-e-baby apperars in the top right, swoops down and
grabs the girl. She screams (sounds real!) and then drac laffs as he is
leaving (also sounds real!)! The game is really good, except one
problema... you only get one life.
Another game to be mastered...

| The best way I've found to kill Frankenstein & Igor is to use the
blue fire-bottle. It helps to have a "II" or "III" so you can use
the fire-bottle several times in a row. I stand on the stone block
above Frank, and throw like crazy. I have an advantage joystick,
the turbo function helps alot. I've also done it with the sword/
dagger to Frank's head, but it's harder.

45.21 | Rolling the Score | AKOV13::DUPLAK | | Mon Aug 22 1988 17:11 | 10 |
|
There are probably several places in CastleVania where you can score
like crazy and roll up 999,999 points, but I've found that the easiest
place is in stage 14 or 15. The Red Skeletons that can be found
there are worth 400 points each. I wait until I get two or three
to "gang up" and I hit them with one whip stroke for 800-1200 points.
When they re-generate (a second or two later) I hit'em again. You
can keep going until time runs out, it's easy to score over 50,000
to get an extra life and start back at the beginning of the same
stage. My high is 999,980 so far.

Hi,
I just got Nintendo for xmas and just started playing Castlvania
I was wondering if I could get a few hints/spoilers
I've been able to get to level/area 11 or 12
Its the one with the flying birds that drop those little men
out of the sky. I can only make it there with 1 life sometimes
less but can't seem to beat those monk like monkey like men.
They seem to gang up on me anad I can't out run them or out
jump them .
Whats the best way to beat or escape these guys??????
I think I made it by once,is the next screen the one with the
dinosaur skeleton monster?????
Also how many levels/areas are there before I meet Drac baby!
Thanks,
Wayne.

| The first technique that got me thru was using the clock to stop
time. As soon as one of the birds appeared I hit the clock and
just kept on running. A clock can be had somewhere in the cavern
region, but avoid picking up another weapon. The major problem
with this is that it costs 5 hearts each use of the clock, and I
have sometimes run out before I reached the end. Later, I managed
to get better at timing and I was able to kill the hunchbacks as
they hit the ground.

Thanks David,
I can make it pass the birds and thier hunchbacks using the
clock and sometimes without it,just by whipping them.
I have made it up to Frankenstien and Igor but keep getting
killed. I only seem to have 1 life by this time. I will try
to make it to them with a couple of lives and also with the
holy water you get back a few screens before the birds.
Do you think this will work?
Thanks again,
Wayne.

I don't spend too much time in this note file or on my nintendo
much any more, since I bought a Commodore Amiga computer. So,
I can't give you very timely information.
As for getting past Frank and Igor, the only special weapon
I ever seem to have at that point is the dagger. It did take me
many, many attempts, before I finally beat them. My technique was
a combination of the following.
1. Hit Igor with a long dagger throw to freeze him for a moment.
2. Whip Frank as fast as possible.
3. Move to avoid Igor's fireballs.

45.32 | Thank god there's some games out there I can finish | HOTSHT::SCHNEIDER | Oh+ | Fri Apr 27 1990 18:52 | 30 |
| Another game I'm stuck on. I hope someone's still playing it, or at least
remembers some tricks.
I'm on level 15 that ends up with the Grim Reaper and his flying bandages
(at least they look like bandages to me, not that it makes much sense
that bandages would hurt, but who am I to complain?).
I meet Grim consistently (about once in three tries from the start of
level 15) with my full strength, the boomerang with triple action and
as many hearts as I want - I usually get about 50 at the staircase and
then head for the warriors with the shields.
Anyway, I stand at the far left of the middle and lowest block when
Grim descends and I get surrounded by hovering bandages which
are about to dart at me. I jump to my right, away from the vicious
cloth, and try to get a few licks in on Grim who sometimes gives
me one in return as he begins moving. I keep moving to the right,
firing boomerands to my left toward the bandages and Grim.
Eventually, the bandages regroup, I realize I haven't done much damage
to Grim, and they got me. I mean, I've been here 100 times and this
is the best strategy I've found so far to make this fight last
more than 20 seconds. Once, exactly once, I killed Grim, but a split
second later the bandage got me, denying me the chance to see
the next 3 stages for the first time.
So when your loaded up with all the essential, and you see Grim, what do
you do?

I just bought the Castelvania game and have had a problem in setting
the game up for 2 players. The instructions say that it is a 1 or 2

get asked is to press the start button and go on to play 1 player only.
Is the cartridge duff or the instructions duff. Or is it me??? Comments

45.34 | Did you ever beat Castlevania? Want to? Read on... | VAXWRK::SCHNEIDER | The crux of the biscuit | Fri Mar 22 1991 16:48 | 67 |
| Well, maybe someone will still be playing this someday, and need some
help. SInce I first bought Castlevania about a year ago, I had
mastered it until very nearly the end, and then got tied up because I
couldn't finish off Dracula to win the game.
So I started again early this week and got to Drac and played probably
100 games to attempt to finish him off and I finally succeeded! I
don't think many did, so here's some spoilers for *my* solution (which
doesn't agree with the one offered earlier in here.)
First, a slighter spoiler. Use the boomerang, lots of hearts, and
triple fire. Go for Drac's fire until you have triple fire, then go
for the head exclusively.
Warning: this is detailed, because I think it's necessary.
You've got two choices of weapons: boomerang and holy water. I used
the boomerang and purposefully let the holy water expire to make sure I
don't accidentally pick it up. You need 40+ hearts, which means 5 or 6
times up and down the stairs before encountering Dracula.
In the final room, stand halfway as Drac appears. Jump and fire a
boomerang at his head as he blinks. Timed right, you'll get two hits
to start. Jump over his bullets.
Learn to time when Drac appears; it's regular. Where isn't. But if
you run in any direction as he's appearing, he won't appear on you and
get a hit. 4 hits, and you're through at this level, so caution is the
key word. If he appears near you keep travelling away. He lifts his
arm to lift his cape when he's firing. The moment he lifts his arm,
the bullets are aimed, so you can jump over them after that if he's
close. If he's not close, or you think you have enough time to turn
and fire (jump over that bottom bullet if it gets through).
Standing facing Drac, what you want to do is throw the boomerang to
intercept his bullets. (If you get all three, you get 3000 bonus
points, and chock up points quickly.) Don't go for the head, it's not
worth it yet - just get the bullets with the point being to get the
double fire and triple fire which will eventually come. You've got 500
seconds to play, so be patient. You need triple fire to win this.
When you get triple fire, go all the way left, and face right. Most
often, Drac shows up in the middle. Just as he's appearing, jump and
fire the boomerang at where his head might be. Often, you'll get two
hits. As you land, fire the boomerang at the bullets. Sometimes Drac
will appear all the way to the right, so don't bother with the head
shot, and just go for the bullets. Then (and this is crucial) run a
little to the right. Time Drac's appearance and run left because he's
gonna appear right on you. Jump his bullets and set up for the double
shots again.
You'll find using this method you'll eventually give him enough whacks
on his head to kill him, and his head will fly off and a new monster
will appear from his head. You had better have triple fire, about 20
hearts and at least half your life left (2 hits) or kiss it goodbye and
just practice. Jump and fire at the creatures head. Use the triple
fire. You'll get hits, you'll knock out his bullets, and you'll slow
him down. You're all the way left, and he starts in the center, and
slowly jumps at you. There's no way around him, so you're gonna take a
hit getting to the other side, which is why you need a minimum of two.
Go to the far right side and keep jumping/firing at the head. You just
might get lucky and kill him. Watch out for his bullets when you're
darting to the right side. Very frustrating to die just then.
