    I was up at Pheasant Lane late last week and Entertainment Warehouse
    just got a new order of the basic system in. Try giving them a
    call; they may reserve one for you. Don't know there number but
    if you have trouble finding it call the Mall's management number.

    	the 12th. They were on sale though for $79.99 so it
    	would be worth it to call first.

LaMere of Westboro has them on sale this week for $78.99.
I call the store yesterday and the clerk told me they will

I purchased mine last week at Caldor's in Bedford, NH. They had about 15 of
them on sale at $79.88. Maybe there's a Caldor's closer to your location.

Good luck!

                  Here is a couple of place's that you might want
                to look into.My sister-in-law has been looking for
                the Basic System,and sombody found it in the Bradlees
                in Pittsfield Ma. and someone found some in a store
                on RT. 140 in Grafton Ma. ? the MART ?,it is next to
                a bowling ally. Maybe someone can give the name of the
                store.

                                              give it a try

     K-Mart has certain NES catridges on sale for 19.88 this
week. Unfortunately, I didn't get the ad until yesterday and the
sale started Wed. It continues until Tuesday. Even if they do
sell out, they'll probably issue rainchecks.

They didn't mention any specific games, but the ad picture had
Baseball, 10 yard fight and others.

Happy hunting.

    I bought my control deck and most of my cartridges at TOYS 'R' US
    in Auburn. I've found that they have the best prices and the best
    selection of all the places I've tried (and I've tried quite a few).

    			< Cheap Game Prices? >

    I just picked up ZELDA for $30.00 new at Rietta Ranch Flea Market.
    This guy is there every week and had (at least I thought) great
    prices on new and average prices on used games. He also had a good
    selection. Rietta Ranch is located on Rt 68 Hubberdston Mass and
    is only open on sundays (very crowded by 10:00 am)

    I would like to purchase a Nintendo system for my husband
    for his birthday. It's not til July, so I have time if I
    need to mail order.

    The question is: What is the best price you can find on
    a NES, where, and when can I get it?
34.17WECARE::KRISTYRock-n-roll WoobieSat Jul 21 1990 20:2613
    What are the Nintendo systems going for now? I'm real naive when it
    comes to Nintendo. There are different types of Nintendo setups,
    aren't there? Could someone please list approximate (and current)
    prices of the various sets?

    We are thinking of getting a Nintendo system for our daughter for
    Christmas but it would probably be smarter to buy it before mid-fall.
    I'd like to know the approximate amount we're going to have to dish out
    for this so I can start saving for it now.

    Thanks!

34.18Make sure you get a game!BCSE::WEIERMon Jul 23 1990 09:4011
    Kristy,

    	The most common system is probably the one with the 2 controllers
    and the gun. It's debatable whether or not the gun is worth it - there
    aren't a lot of games for it. Anyway, with 2 controllers, the nintendo
    deck, the gun and Super Mario Bros/Duck Hunt, it should cost about
    $100.00.

    	Best buy is probably Lechmere because -- if you can find it cheaper
    anywhere else, they'll refund the difference. Child World is pretty
    good as well.
34.19Gun - Maybe . . . SMB - Yes!STRAIT::WALTONkerjillions of stars. . .Mon Jul 23 1990 10:0426
   Re: .17, .18

   Kristy,

   There are three types of Nintendo base systems:

      basic set - Game Pak and 2 Controllers for about $80
      Action Set - basic set plus Light Gun and Super Mario Brothers/Duck Hunt
                   cartridge.
      Somethingorother Set - Action Set plus Power Pad ( a pad that you jump
                   up and down on to control the game ) and the addition of
                   a Track and Field game on the SMB/DH cartridge.

   While I agree that the light gun is not really worth it, the fact that
   you get Super Mario Brothers with the "Action Set" makes it a good buy.
   SMB is definately a classic Nintendo game and a lot of fun. In my opinion
   the Power Pad is useless. Its novelty will wear off quickly, especially
   for adults, but may take a little longer for kids.

   Since you have found this notes file, I'd suggest you read up on a game
   before buying, it can save you mucho $$$ in cartridges that just gather
   dust.

                                             - Dave
34.20Not necessarily a gamepack!BCSE::WEIERTue Jul 24 1990 14:5111
    Dave and Kristy ...

    	It is no longer true that you automatically get games with the NES.
    BE CAREFUL! A friend of mine just bought one and got the set and
    that's all. No Mario Bros. They are intentionally marketing them
    without games - probably so that you can get them cheaper. So watch
    out and double check that you really DO get a gamepack with it.

    ... I like the power pad, not nuts about the gun. All a matter of taste I
    guess.

34.21WECARE::KRISTYRock-n-roll WoobieTue Jul 24 1990 16:088
    We ended up purchasing the Action Set, complete with Super Mario
    Bros/Duck Hunt for $100.00 at Kay-Bee in the Pheasant Lane Mall. They
    also have a fair amount of games on sale for around $10-25 or so...

    Now I'm off to the Classified Ads note to see if I can find any other
    games that we'd like... Thanks for all the help!
