26.1 | # cartridges vs. graphics? | SCENIC::CLARK | Elusive Fish | Mon Nov 30 1987 13:29 | 6 |
| Hi Jim;
So far I've read that the Nintendo has a better selection of games,
while the Sega system has slightly better graphics ....

26.2 | NES has the advantage | BCSE::SCOPA | The Major | Mon Nov 30 1987 16:10 | 22 |
| Very simple Jim,
Nintendo's track record is better:
- proven games
- graphics are very good
- future looks bright
- customer base solid
What is it about SEGA that has got your son's attention?
NES has games for everyone.....action, adventure, sports and most
of all the PASSWORD PAK series.....does SEGA have that?
Being able to start a game in the same spot where I left it is very
appealing to me.

| I agree with 26.2....all the way around, I just bought the Nintendo game along
with the Legend of Zenda,Baseball and Spy Hunter.....I like the Graphics very
much...you have to see the Baseball game when you hit a foul ball back toward
the screen where your sitting to believe the effects....The Legend of Zenda is
worth the price not to say that it can be very addictive....and fun! Spy
Hunter is quite challenging. Now back to Zenda.........

| My 13 year old son has both Nintendo and Sega. He likes Sega better.
I'm no expert on either but I must say I enjoy Sega also it seems
to be more fun and the graphics are great.

26.5 | SEGA is hot in the arcades | SQM::CAFARELLA | | Wed Dec 09 1987 20:20 | 11 |
|
Another reason a 13-year-old may prefer SEGA is that they currently
have many of the "hot" games in the arcades (Space Harrier, Outrun,
Quartet, Hang On), all of which have been transcribed to the home
system. Nintendo's heyday in the arcades has passed (they're probably
too busy writing the home stuff).

26.6 | Game machine comparisons ???? Which are the better ? | BETA::EARLY | Bob_the_Hiker | Thu Dec 24 1987 11:15 | 19 |
| re: Comparison of Game Machines ...
Does anyone have a comprhensive comparison of the various types
of game machines ?
That is , how do the graphics, game selection, price compare between
the Atari series, SEGA system, Nintendo System, Computer Games such
as found for IBM PC or TRS80 series computers ?).
My 12 and 14 year old sons are totally unfamilair with anything
except for the IBM PC (used another sons' home), and the ATARI
(the one with the keyboard). They've got about $100 - $150 dollars
between them to burn, and they'd like to get the best bang for the
buck (they learn fast ....... ).
(No, they're not from another planet ... just another continent.)

| Re .6:
Graphics are unquestionably better on video games such as Nintendo and
Sega. There is unquestionably more variety on computer games.
Unfortunately, everything varies more on computer games. Computer game
quality can go from very low to very high. This is in part because
anybody can "write" a program and distributing it on disks is a lot
easier and cheaper to get into (it can be done on a small or medium
scale by hand) than contracting to have ROM cartridges made for video
games. Computer game prices also vary a lot more than video games; I
got a new but long-unsold "Othello" game for $1.69, and it claims to be
unbeaten at its top level. But there are commonly games that are $40,
and I am sure you could find some that are more expensive.
For $150, you cannot by an IBM PC. Stay away from the Atari video
games. Atari computers might be okay, but you are going to use up
money if you go for a computer. I think the largest selection
currently available for computers is for the Commodore 128 (which runs
Commodore 64 programs).
The best bets are the Nintendo and Sega video games.

26.8 | Thanks ... decision is made for a Nintendo. | BETA::EARLY | Bob_the_Hiker | Fri Jan 15 1988 12:49 | 11 |
| re: .6 (close .5)
Thanks ... After looking at the various alternatives, and talking
to some school friends, and after I talked to a few Deccies, Chris
has decided to spend the "extra" buck for a Nintendo.
Challenge #2: Now to find one. Most stores I've checked so afr (Kay
Bees in Pheasnt Lane and Searstown Mall; Lechmeres in Worcester
and Child World in Fitchburg seem to all be saying "late Januar",
or call "next week".

26.9 | TRIED TOYS-R-US?? | INDIAN::CARLTON | What! you didn't know? | Fri Jan 15 1988 12:54 | 14 |
| Hi BNob,
I just bought mine two weeks ago at TOYS-R-US in Manchester. Might
try there. Also, I was down at the mall yesterday and saw some
at Kay-Bee. Toys is by far cheaper (~$10). I paid $79.97 for mine.
After the holiday crunch, seems to be getting back to normal. I
stop by Child world in the Nashua mall periodically to see if they
have any new games in as well.
Enjoy!

| I bought one last week at the Entertainment Warehouse in the Pheasant
Lane mall. The store doesn't look like much but the guy told me
to take a look at Lechmere and K-Bee toys -- "our prices are better".
Cost was $79.
