19.0. "Nintendo Baseball" by SONATA::GALVIN (The Night Stalker) Wed Nov 11 1987 21:36

I guess I'll dedicate this note to Baseball.

All in all a pretty decent two-player game!

I've only got a couple of gripes with it:

The computer's team seems *a lot* faster than my men, when it comes
    to chasing down groundballs.

My infield seems to consist of all Bill Buckners! (meaning, the
grounders all ways go between their legs, out into the outfield!)

What's the use of having a pick-off capability, when you can't pick
men off of base? Everytime someone starts to lead, I try to pick
them off but they make it safely back to base. The computer can't
pick me off, and I can't pick the computer off.

    Galv

P.S. - I love it when you pop a foul back at the 'camera'!

I also enjoy the baseball game.

Did anyone notice that the computer will play you about
equal or better. I've never been able to blow the computer
out, although it blasted me a few times. Whenever I do score
a number of runs, the computer seems to always come back and
score enough to at least keep it close.

The infield fielding is aggravating. The grounder that you
think should be caught, go thru and visa versa.

I think the pick-off is geared for the 2 player games. Try
to anticipate the other player sending his runner.

Another thing I've discovered is that if the system has a
runner on first or third and you throw from home to second
or from 2nd home, the runners go and you can't get them out.

I haven't noticed the system's outfield moving any faster
mine. I even managed an inside the park homer, once.

	Great Game!!

	Re: Stealing

I think .1 hit the nail on the head. You can't pick off the
computer but if your playing two player and your openent is trying
to get a jump you can catch him. The computer can do the same to
you if you try to get a jump.

	Re: Fielding

Ever notice that sometimes you get good fielding teams and
	other times you get wickets?

Has anyone else noticed that it's pretty easy (not automatic)
to lay bunts down the 3rd base line with lefty batters and beat them
	out for singles??

It's a good game. When you play the computer, don't steal third
because it will pick you off, but you can still steal second.

In the early innings you should throw slow balls because they're
    mostly pop-ups.  It takes lots of practice to beat the computer;
it took me two weeks until I could beat it. I've beat it a few
    times.

One other thing I've noticed is that with baserunners at first and
third when the ball is in the outfield, the runner at third will
run home if he sees you throw the ball to second.

19.4how to pick a runner off 2ndISTG::KURASFri Jan 06 1989 08:0923
I learned how to pick off a runner at 2nd base, when playing against
the computer. Sometimes it takes 3 successive attempts, but it
works. If you don't want to see how I do it, then go to the next
    note/reply.

This works when there are runners on 1st & 2nd (and 3rd too, I guess):

Pitcher makes a pickoff move to 2nd; the player covering 2nd
immediately throws to 1st; just before the ball reaches 1st, push
up-arrow/A so that the 1st baseman returns the throw to 2nd. The
runner on 2nd is picked off.

I use this all the time. To my surprise, after 2 or 3 pick
offs, the computer hasn't wised up to this during the game.

Judging from these replies, I assume that this is the LJN Major
League Baseball game?u! I admit that I haven't played it much (yet),
but I'm still having trouble juding fly balls to the outfield and
having my starting pitcher outlast the computer's.

Well I hope you guys have mastered NINTENDO baseball by now. I think
it's the best all-around game but if you're into statistics the
    MLB game is OK.
Here are some hints for Nint.B.B

Offense: runners on second and or third- get into a pickle using
the individual base controls. Start back to original base and
anticipating the next throw break for the next base. Except for
stealing second base you can always out run a pickle situation.

Hitting seems to be best from the front inside of the batters box.
You'll be able to hit the curves almost every time! And it also
gives the left hand batter a couple of extra steps.

Fielding: There is absolutely no way to control the "dummy dance".
That is a software bug or somthing because all games have it.

Pitching: This is where most of you seem to need help. Work the
corners with those 40mph floaters. Double curves can be achieved
by holding down the pithing button and working the cross-pad.
"Dippsey-Doodle" pitches are the most effective way to strike 'em
out looking! This also works for throwing tailing fastballs.

This is all pre-tested stuff I've told you- I have over 15 shut-outs
to my credit and counting! My record run count for a game is 37runs.
My wife refuses to play against me anymore.
