O.K. Maybe someone can explain the purpose behind freeing those
stone statues do they become your army later in the game? Is this
something all pit's should concentrait on doing during those levels?
just a few questions from another eggplant.

| Yes!
Those little "stone statues", breakable by mallot only, are vital.
They help you when you finaly reach the gatekeeper.
On level one, however, it really doesn't matter (but, I would save
my mallots if I were you). But, on levels two and three, especialy
two they are great to have. The first time I got by 2-4 it took
me 30 centurians, now it only takes 10.
It only gets easier,
Pat..

15.3 | A fate worse than death !!!! | PROSE::FLAHERTY | | Wed Nov 11 1987 14:44 | 23 |
| I'm sorry...
I didn't explain exactly what they do.
You may notice, when you free one (hit it on the head with a mallot),
a centurian will fly off to the top of the screen. When you get
to the gatekeepers chamber those centurians come on the screen (3
at a time depending on how many you have). They shoot arrows with
you, and they help lower the Boss points in the lower right hand
corner. They die if they are touched or shot at be a gatekeeper.
I didn't put that behind a form feed because I didn't think it was
a spoiler of any kind, just somthing that should have been put in
the book to begin with.
They are right (in the book) when they say, "The eggplant wizards
cause a fate worse than death,"!
Death to all Eggplant Wizards,
Pat..

Has anyone done this? I had been on my way to checkpoint 2-3 but
decided to start over. I am presently in 1-3 but I start off with

| I certainly understand what your doing. Moreso for beginners, this
is a necessity. The more hearts you get in each level is your starting
point for the next level. As things get more expensive, a high
heart count is critical.
Mike, I got kindof frustrated in 1-3 so I ran thru it quickly to
get to 1-4 to experiment. In the training room, I opted for the
wand that is suppose to protect Pit. I can't figure out how it
is suppose to be used. I don't get the crystals revolving around
me. Any ideas ? What did you opt for in 1-3 training ? BTW, barrels
are okay but it's the cost of the extra potion flasks that keep
killing you.

15.8 | Training Room Advice | BCSE::SCOPA | The Major | Tue Nov 24 1987 12:14 | 19 |
| Well Steve I started 1-4 with a barrel and about 11 mallets, and
quite a few hearts. I opted for the Crystal but didn't really get
it going until either 2-1 or 2-3.
I also grabbed the Magic Bow. These things will not work within
the same section you get them. If they are grey they are unavailable.
I recommend the crystal before the rest. It really helps. Watch
out for the ogres. they take stuff away from you.
Right now I'm in 2-3. There are special pools of life-restoring
liquid...if I remember correctly they are gold.
This game gets better as you go along...more interesting.
I'm hooked. Hope I don't get through before Link's Adventures comes
out.

or is it a second when you went through to get the bow. Having
trouble making it thru 1-4 cause I have to kill off a lot before
I can afford both the pencil and the position torch. I picked up
most of my mallets in 1-3 but that harp is real hard to get. At
one time I almost made it thru 1-3 with about 16 mallets. I have
gotten to 1-4 anxiety of trying it out. Now that I know what to
expect, I'm heading back to recoup some weaknesses. Amazing what
they put into these games. I keep marveling over the insight and
planning. My 4-year-old who has finally made it to 1-3 of SMB keeps
wanting me to play "kickiris" and that proceeds to tell me everything
I'm doing wrong. In 1-3 he asked me why I kept jumping off the
clouds and the platforms. I didn't think it was wise to tell him
I was suicidal, so I tell him it felt right at the time. Oh well,
it's late and my NES awaitith me.

| The following advice is to help anyone having problems with Icarus.
If anyone feels that these are spoilers please let me know and I
will discontinue such advice. I don't believe these are spoilers
but instead advice to help you guys out.
Be prepared to map out 2-4. There are 64 rooms and unless you map
out what each room has and where the doorways are, you will end
up going through all 64 before you get to the next BOSS.
You can get to him by going through about 19 rooms....including
3 rooms with the eggplant people.
Advice: You should free around 12 soldiers before going into the
Boss room (I think he's called HEWDEW or something like that). You
will need patience and dexterity to defeat him.
I've discovered a way to avoid becoming an eggplant. It doesn't
work every time but it's pretty dependable. Hint: Positioning is
important.

So far I can count 3.
1) Pit gets a cowboy hat.
2) Pit grows big.
3) pit grows big, and platuna kisses him. Little pit/cupid
things fly around and throw harts.
4)Pit gets a roman helmet.
I know, thats 4, but 4 and 1 were pretty similar.
Does anybody else know of diffrent endings ?

I received Kid Iccarus for Christmas, along with a couple other
games, which I immediately ripped open and started playing just
to get an idea what the game(s) were like. However being involved
with Zelda and Super Mario Brothers I decided to shelf the new games
until I could really get into them.
I decided last night that the time had come...the problem is
somewhere along the line I have misplaced the instructions to
Kid Iccarus, I have a basic idea how the game plays, (due to a
casual reading on Christmas morn) but I could really use a copy
of the instructions to understand all the details...
CAN ANYONE HELP ??? It would be greatly appreciated.

| Re .19:
You might call Nintendo to see if they can supply another copy of the
instructions.
Here are some things: Hearts are used for purchases. Below the number
of hearts is the strength meter, which is shown in sections of seven
units each, up to five sections.
The start screen shows your total score, your score since the last
checkpoint, the stage you are in (each stage has four areas), and your
fighting power (up to five arrows). A map will be shown if you have
it, and chambers you have been in will be shown if you have the pencil.
The other areas are weapons (fire/flaming arrows, sacred bow,
protective crystals), sacred treasures (arrow of light, mirror shield,
wings of Pegasus), numbers of bottles of water of life, mallets, and
angel's wings, a credit card, flaming torch (magical only in
fortresses), and pencil.
Some rooms are treasure chambers; shoot the pitchers in a certain order
(you have to figure out which pitcher to shoot first to reveal
something that tells you which to shoot next, and so on -- and this
pattern changes at a higher level). Some rooms will not let you escape
until you shoot all of the enemy. Some are shops where you can buy
things. Some rooms reward you with increased fighting power or a
weapon for certain things. A hot spring will restore your strength.
Flaming arrows hurt the enemy more. The sacred bow shoots farther and
faster. The protective crystal offers protection. The mirror shield
reflects bullets but not bodies. Light arrows blast through the enemy.
Wings permit you to fly. The credit card lets you buy one thing you do
not have money for; then you must earn the hearts you owe before you
can buy on credit again. The feather causes you to bounce back after
falling off the screen. The flaming torch causes your current position
to be displayed on the map, if you have it. Water of life in a
glass/chalice adds one measure of strength (seven units). In a bottle,
it adds one measure just as you lose them all. A water barrel lets you
carry up to eight bottles.
You need to do more than just make it through the sections; you need to
get points and experience so that you will be rewarded with strength.

without trying to stop till you get to something solid.
If you do need to "hit the breaks" hit ^(up) on the controller
as if to shoot into the air. You stop on a dime.
But, after a while you'll get a "rythm" going and find you
won't have to stop too often on the 'slippery' stuff.
I don't think you can get enough point for the first God's

I'm not sure exactly which blocks you are talking about. I remember in
one place a set of blocks where you have to jump carefully from one to
the next. I've only seen it once, so you just practice, get through
it, and forget about it. There are icy platforms in other places, but
those are easy because you can jump through them. That is, if you jump
up into them, you go through and then can stand on them normally. You
can also go down through them by pushing down, but that's not used too
often (yet, at least).

Having just received the NINTENDO PLAYERS GUIDE in the mail, my
interest in Kid Icarus has been rekindled.
I started playing, again, with these new cluse/hints (I had never
gotten beyond 1-3, before), but the hints don't seem to jibe with
the game!
It says you'll get the Credit Card with a perfect score in the treasure
room. Well, what is a perfect score?? I shot all of the vases,
but 1, and hadn't seen the god of poverty yet, so I stopped. I
figured that that would be a perfect score, but no credit card!
Also, I haven't figured out the use of the God's Room, on level
1-1, either. The most points I can come up with, before entering,
is 1600.
Oh, yeah...these shopkeepers don't seem to want to lower their prices
when you use the 2nd controller trick! All they do is raise them!
Are these guys all ways in a bad mood?!

Ah-Ha! I finally completed this game!
In fact, once I got to 1-4, the rest of the game was simple.
I've been playing the same character, now, and I've completed the
game three times (all of the endings were the same: Pit gets bigger).
I think my total points are up to 1.5 million.
So, if I keep winning with this same character, will I ever see
a different ending, or should I start a new character??
Also, each time I complete the game and hit START, I start out with
all of my treasures, but my paid for items (barrel, arrows, bottles
of life juice, etc...) are all gone. ;^(

| Well, I am borrowing Kid Icarus for about two weeks, and I have questions.
1. When I start the game, I am outside of a door. Is there anyway of
opening the door?
2. I go up a short distance, maybe 2 to 4 jumps, and there's another
door. Go inside, and the room is empty. Am I supposed to do
something special before getting there or while inside?
3. Go on up some more, many jumps, and eventually find a door. Go
inside, and monsters appear from thin air. I get wiped out every
time if I stay there, so I've developed a tactic, which is to get
the hell out right away. Should I concentrate on clearing those
monsters (to get a goodie or something)?
4. Go on up some more, and find another door to enter, and find three
items for sale at exorbitant prices. Must be a black marketeer.
What chance is there to this damn game? :-)
5. Somewhere along the line, and I forget exactly where, I came to
a room filled with jars. I went around shooting them, and BLAM,
the God of Poverty appears. Instant death, so I start over again.
I get back to the same room, and think to myself, heh heh, I know
where that beast is. I just won't shoot that jar, and so he shows
up in a different jar. I've developed a tactic here too, shoot
one jar, take what it gives me, and leave. I must be missing
something, but what?
6. Eventually, I reach the boundary between stage 1-1 and stage 1-2,
and have little to show for it. Some mallets, about 4 to 8, and
a few heart dollars (usually more that 100). Is that all there is?
Well, that certainly is enough questions.
Thanks, Stapes

This is a spoiler to the end of Kid Icarus...
What you have to do is shoot the eye ....
For a more descriptive spoiler...
I found that you can fly to the eye's level about 6 inches from the
eyes and the beams that Medusa shoots won't hit you, then all you have
to do is time your shots so you can shoot the snakes when they appear.
Sit right there and keep shooting...
Hope this helps...
