Note 153.0 Maple V R2 Available (pointer) 2 replies

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
As you know, Maple V Release 2 is now shipping from Waterloo Maple
Software, Inc. I have obtained a copy of the RISC ULTRIX product for
INTERNAL USE ONLY. In addition, there is a PostScript file named:
maplev_install.ps
which is a copy of the ULTRIX installation guide (small document).
The latest version includes a full motif interface which allows one to
set many parameters including input and output fonts and sizes, how to
print and even the type of lighting in a 3D graphic. In addition, a
license manager has been added to the code so that the product can be
shared. The first time that one uses Maple V Release 2, you will be
placed into the license manager and asked to answer a number of
questions. I will NOT place this information into the installation
account but will ask you to e-mail me from your DEC account or to
telephone me for the answers to the questions.
My e-mail address is: [email protected] or
mazel::rosen (DECnet)
My telephone is: DTN 297-5953; DDD (508) 467-5953
The Maple V Release 2 installation account on mazel
is: /mazelusers/maplevr2
The files to copy from this account are:
maple.tar.Z
maplev_install.ps
[I hope to add a "Getting Started in Motif" file later but most will
do fine navigating through the application.]
NOTE: The tar file which was created has been compressed. You must
use the uncompress command on the .Z file before using tar to
extract the files into your maple directory. The installation
guide begins with the assumption that you have a tape or tar
file.
I think I have this account set-up properly for copying (dcp/ftp) but
let me know if I have made a mistake (definitely within the realm of
possibility!).
Enjoy!
Barry

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I saw a question as to whether Maple V is available on OSF/1. It is
now available and shipping. I have a copy available for internal use
within Digital complete with installation instructions. The install
must be performed in two steps. The first is to copy the tar file from
me. You can do this any way you desire. The files are:
maple_install.ps
mapleosf.tar.Z
Send e-mail to me and I will send you the current password for the
guest account from which you can FTP the files.
Step 2 will be to send me another e-mail with the information requested
in the instructions. I will then send you the license installation
information.

Andy,
There is no-one of which I know in Digital who now manages the
relationship with Waterloo Maple Software nor will distribute the
products internally.
I literally returned from a meeting with my manager minutes ago where
I was instructed to stop this activity immediately. Consequently, I
will not be able to distribute any software to you (or anyone else).
Sorry that events played-out this way at this time.
Barry
