1915.0. "ALGORITHMS will be gone unless action taken" by AD::GRUNDMANN (Bill) Mon Dec 12 1994 08:41

In case any of you MATH AT DEC notesfile readers have an interest in
the ALGORITHM notesfile, you might want to write to the system manager
    below...

Otherwise it's going to be gone soon.

The system manager for node HEAVY has replied to my mail. He says
the group that owned that system has gone out of existance and the
node has been shut down. He offered to put any of the conferences
that used to be on HEAVY onto some other node if there is a demand
for it. I put in a bid for him to restore the ALGORITHMS conference,
but I have had no response yet.

A smoke signal from Big White Cloud: "Bisons scarce, Algorithms precious,
Hunting necessary, Life good. Howgh! I have two questions:

Q1. Is this the company which employed Donald E. Knuth?

Q2. Who is the respected system manager for the Algorithms notes
conference, so that we be able to send him smoke signals?"

Mihai.
1915.2For crying out loud!MOVIES::HANCOCKTue Dec 13 1994 06:107
There's something odd when a company selling computer systems
does away with its only public forum for engineers around the
company to discuss algorithms. There's something very alarming
when none of the engineers seem to care.

I can probably host the conference subject to knowing how much disk
space is needed. As I recall though the conference is low traffic and
not particularly large. I tried to send mail to HEAVY::SYSTEM but it appears
to be forwarded because it fails to send. Can anyone help before it's
    too late?

Dave Gross is posting the system manager's name on EASYNET_CONFERENCES.
That is probably the right place to discuss this issue.
    Not here in MATH...
