do any of you know anything about the queue distribution? any references? my daughter heard the term in a chem class. it is apparently used to detect outliers (bad data) in analytical chemistry when an experiment is replicated a fairly small number of times. thanks.

I think you mean the Q-distribution, no relationship to the Theory of Queues. It is a modification of the chi-squared distribution for goodness of fit used, not just in chemistry, to test for outliers. It is not very popular any more. The chem professor was just trying to impress the students. Forget it unless s/he (the professor) is the pedantic prima donna type. Even then, just remember s/he thinks it is cute. fwiw, Dick |
