I am in the Education/Science Marketing organization and am looking
at the Mathematics (and secondarily the statistical analysis) market
in order to articulate a cohesive marketing strategy and message for
Digital. The relationships with most of the major third party mathematics
software vendors is done in my group, with strong ties to other
relevant Digital groups. We have a good story to tell here at Digital -
Mathematica, Maple, MATHcad, IMSL, DXML, etc., etc. The PACKAGING of the
Digital message is what the field needs now.
What is useful is an identifiable source of internal mathematics
expertise to help with the articulation of the strategy. I am looking
for people who have good ideas about the following:
-What are the strengths that Digital has in Mathematics (human
resources/expertise, published papers, research . . )
-Experience using third party math products
-Customer testimonials on how mathematics is being used innovatively
with our systems (especially in Education and Science)
-A guru on Computers and Mathematics: history, status quo and future.
-Things Digital is doing in Mathematics that the rest of the world
should know about.
If you can help, please respond. I also like the idea of POTENTIALLY
supporting/promoting the folks who are publishing the Digital Math
book!

| I am sorry to see your inquiry has no replies. Although I am educated
in Math, I work as an engineer and therefore have little or no
mathematical contact in DEC. I can give you a couple of pointers
though.
DXML development group. They must have a few numerical analysis types
on board.
Digital Western Research Lab. I've seen some math out of there which,
though completely out of my field, looked quite up to par.
Laboratory Data Products. I assume it's still around to support
scientific cusomers.
Come on folks - any others?

| The resources are right here - there are about 150 names in this conference
of people who have at least an active interest in the subject, even if they
are not currently specializing in it. Many of the notes describe real
problems and effective solutions. I have responded by mail, and I expect
others may do so too.

| Thanks for responding. A few of you have sent mail directly. This is a
large notesfile and I have culled what I can from it. I have spoken
to some very good mathematicians in the company over the last year or
so and have some leads there as well. I want to make sure I don't
miss anything significant and hence my note.
Thank you again for your response - I encourage more of you to do
so. If you have an interesting idea for collaborative efforts with
some the math vendors (we may manage them out of this group you know!)
please let met know.
